A word from our CEO

Setting out

New grantee Laura Skerlj, Lagoon, 2016. Oil on linen, 163 x 193 cm.

The grant application process can be daunting, especially when you’re starting out. Applying for grants is a lengthy process, with each application involving different criteria and requiring an individualised approach. Not to mention it can be hard to know what opportunities are out there. In recognition of this, we have incorporated a residency profile section in The Coronet, to spotlight some of the residency programs undertaken by our grantees. This edition we feature the Arteles Creative Residency Program, in which four past Cultural Trust recipients have participated. In fact, one of these grantees, Peter Walsh, enlisted the advice of a past grantee and fellow Sydney-based artist Sissy Reyes in the application process. We interviewed Peter on his time at Arteles, his experience applying for grants, and how reaching out for advice from fellow artists and forming connections can be a valuable way of improving your grant application skills.
