Welcome to the first issue of The Coronet for 2025

Congratulations to the 29 new grantees who have been awarded grants totalling $302,022 These grants will allow them to undertake tailored professional development to deepen their practical skills and widen their professional connections. I wish our new grantees all the best on their travels and learning opportunities

The Ian Potter Cultural Trust is underpinned by a commitment to excellence. The Trust seeks to support artists who are passionate about their work and have the potential to be outstanding in their field. This year's first funding round of Emerging Artist Grants was particularly competitive, with the Trust receiving 175 applications, the largest number in its 32-year history. So, I am delighted to share two exceptional opportunities for professional development in theatre and the music industry (see below) that are currently supported by The Ian Potter Foundation. These opportunities are open to early-career artists and arts workers across Australia. I encourage anyone interested to learn more about them and apply

Our next round of Emerging Artist Grants will open later this month If you have a professional development opportunity, you are planning to undertake in late 2025 or early 2026; this would be the appropriate round for you.

Our most recent funding round saw 29 emerging artists awarded $302,022 in grants.

From research residencies to mentorship opportunities, our new grantees will travel internationally to gain hands-on professional development experiences suited to their unique artistic practice

Applications for our Emerging Artist Grants will open this month. Grants of up to $15,000 are available to support professional development opportunities for emerging artists from any arts practice.

Applications open: Tuesday 22 April 2025

Applications close: Tuesday 17 June at 5PM AEST For travel/projects after: Friday 19 September 2025

National Producers Platform

Applications are open for Performing Lines' National Producer's Platform.

The National Producer's Platform allows emerging producers from across Australia to attend a 10-week learning course, facilitated by experienced producers and industry guest speakers. Participants will also attend the week-long national arts market and professional development conference, the Australian Performing Arts Exchange (APAX), which will be held in Darwin this year

This professional development will continue into 2026, with select participants undertaking a paid, five-week full-time industry placement with a partner organisation to consolidate their skills, further extend their networks and gain on-the-job experience

Looking to get your foot in the door of the music industry? Applications are open for The Push's Music Industry Mentoring Program.

The Push is looking for 11 young people to participate in a national workplace learning program – giving you the opportunity to learn first-hand from some of Australia’s leading music companies

This volunteer program is open to all young people aged 18–25 based anywhere within Australia, with priority access given to First Nations young people, young people of colour, young people from low-income household, young people with a disability and LGBTQIA+ young people To cover expenses incurred, all program participants will receive a once-off honorarium paid at the commencement of the program.

Applications close: Wednesday 30 April 2025 at 7PM AEST

New grantee Tina Stefanou's first major solo exhibition You Can’t See Speed is on at ACCA from 4 April to 9 June 2025

Stefanou will soon head to New York to undertake a mentorship with renowned anthropologist Michael Taussig, whose work has deeply influenced her artistic practice.

2019 Grantee Evan J Lawson

Evan J Lawson is the Artistic Director of Forest Collective and the Musical Director for their latest upcoming operatic performance, Fat Pig

Adapted from Neil LaBute’s awardwinning 2004 play, this black comedy examines the nature of beauty and attraction

Fat Pig will be on from 5–8 June 2025 at fortyfivedownstairs, Melbourne

Fellow Mee Na Lojewski is the Founder and Director of Melbourne-based string quartet, Affinity Quartet.

With over sixty scheduled performances for this year, both in Australia and abroad, Affinity Quartet may be coming to an event near you.

Multi-award-winning comedian Alex Hines will be performing Girl Culture at Malthouse Theatre as part of the Melbourne International Comedy Festival from 8–20 April 2025

She previously undertook intensive comedy improvisation training at acclaimed comedy institutions,

Congratulations to Emma Coulter for making it on this year's list of Australia's Top 100 Artists.

Ellen Ferrier is one of six finalists for See more

Coulter will soon showcase new work in her solo exhibition, superimposition. The exhibition will run from 3–24 May 2025 at James Makin Gallery in Melbourne.

Groundlings Theatre and Upright Citizens Brigade, in Los Angeles with support from an Emerging Artist Grant.

2024 Grantee

Last year, writer Nadia Mahjouri undertook a Writing Masterclass with award-winning historical fiction writer Maggie O'Farrell at Silk Road Slippers in Marrakesh, Morocco.

Create NSW's Visual Arts Fellowship (Emerging)

This opportunity will see her receive curatorial support from Artspace in Sydney, culminating in a group exhibition at Artspace set to launch in August this year.
