CEO Update

Welcome to the 17th edition of Campus

For those of you just commencing this year, Campus is The George Alexander Foundation's bi-annual newsletter. It has been a while since the last issue and there is much to update you on

Firstly, I would like to introduce our new Program and Partnerships Manager, Dr Brad Shrimpton. Brad joined the Foundation in November and brings with him a wealth of knowledge and experience in the education sector.

Some of you may have already seen Brad last month at our Scholarship

Commencement Celebration, alongside our guest speakers Madeleine Buchner OAM and Jacqueline de Mamiel from Little Dreamers. Madeleine and Jacqueline spoke about their experiences as young carers, juggling school and later university, and the role models who inspired them to get where they are today. This event was the perfect way to welcome our 2025 scholars into the GAF Community. If you were unable to attend, I suggest watching a clip from the event below. Congratulations again to our newest cohort of GAF Scholars

Brad also visited Calperum Station as part of Earthwatch's Student Challenge. This expedition saw a handful of promising high school students realise their passion for environmental science through a series of experiential activities led by real-life scientists. You can learn more about his time there below. If you’re passionate about the field of environmental science, Earthwatch's internships may be of interest to you.

Similarly, if you've recently graduated and are looking to acquire higherlevel skills overseas, drive leading practice, and champion innovation in Australia – our GAF Fellowship with the International Specialised Skills Institute may be the right opportunity for you.

The George Alexander Foundation is here to support you in turning your inspiration into action and I encourage you to take on the opportunities presented to you in your academic journey.

Scholarship Commencement Celebration 2025

In April, we held our online Scholarship Commencement Celebration and heard from two inspiring individuals: Madeleine and Jacqueline of Little Dreamers

As young people who had to take on caring roles at a young age, Maddy and Jacq spoke about the challenges they faced and how a scholarship has helped them get to where they are today.

Earthwatch Student Challenge: Calperum Station

Each year, GAF supports fellowships for secondary school students in years 10-12 to participate in Earthwatch's environmental science expeditions.

This year, the students went to Calperum Station in South Australia and got to experience exactly what ecologists do in the real world.
