Promises of God 7. Deliverance
Il Corinthians 1:10 "Who delivered us from so great a death, and doth deliver: in whom we trust that he will yet deliver us;" Meaning: Three times the word "deliver" is used in the text verse. The first time it refers to past deliverance when Christ died on the cross and paid for our sin. The second time it refers to present deliverance. God is still delivering people today from sin, suffering, and the second death. The third time deliverance is mentioned it is referring to future deliverance when we will be delivered from this body and will receive our glorified body in Heaven.
Application: All of us need deliverance from sin, the second death, Satan, temptation, and this present world. When we receive the Lord Jesus Christ as our personal Saviour, we are delivered from the second death (Romans 6:22). However, Satan still wants to hold us captive (II Timothy 2:26). Part of the model prayer is to pray, "lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil" (Matthew 6:13). God wants to and promises to deliver us if we will only ask.
