Meaning:"Comforteth"inourtextmeanstocallnear.Thatis whatGoddoestocomfortus,HedrawsusneartoHimself.Allof our"tribulation"referstoeverypressure,burden,oraffliction. Comfortwillstrengthenthemindwhenitisdepressed,andwill givenewvigortothespiritwhenitisdiscouraged.Godwantsto comfortusinourtrouble.HetellsusinIPeter5:7,"Castingall yourcareuponhim;forhecarethforyou."
Application:ThereasonGodpromisedto comfortusis"thatwemaybeabletocomfort themwhichareinanytrouble."Wecanget comfortfromGod,HisWord,orothers.The kindofcomfortwecangivetoothersisthe "comfortwherewithweourselvesarecomforted ofGod."Godcaresandcomfortsusinour affliction,andHewantsustodothesamefor others(IThessalonians5:11,14).
