Meaning:Godsaystheheathenpraywithvainrepetition. Worthlessandemptyprayersarethosewhichsaythesame thingswithnofervency,faith,orheartbehindwhatisbeing said.Therearemanyreligionswhichhavecertainprayers, creeds,orrecitationsthataretobesaidtoGoddailyasifto "beheardfortheirmuchspeaking."Prayerisnotanswered byhowmuchwesay,butbythenatureofourrequestsand ourattitudesinasking.
Application:Whileweshouldnotpraywithvain repetition,itisnotasintosaythesamethingsin prayer.ItwasJesusofWhomtheBiblesays,"And againhewentaway,andprayed,andspakethesame words"(Mark14:39).However,thosesamewords wereprayedsoearnestlythat"hissweatwasasitwere greatdropsofblood"(Luke22:44).Topraywithout ceasingandneversaythesamethingswouldrequirea largevocabularyandimagination.Theprayerswepray forrepeatedlyshouldnotbecoldandindifferent,but prayersshouldbewithfervencyanddesire.
