Matthew5:7"Blessedarethemerciful:fortheyshall obtainmercy."
Meaning:OneoftheattributesofGodmentionedagain andagaininscriptureisthatHeismerciful.Mercyis shownwhenweshowcompassionandkindness.Itis becauseofGod's"mercythathesavedus"(Titus3:5).Our textisoneofthebeatitudesspokenbyJesusintheSermon ontheMount.Blessed,fortunate,andhappyarethosewho arecompassionatebecausetheytooshallreceivemercy.
Application:Mercyispromisedtoall,thatiswhy undeservingmankindcanhavetheirsinsforgivenand canhaveahomeinHeaven.However,God specificallypromisesmercytothefollowingpeople:
ThosewhokeepHistestimonies(Psalm25:10),those whotrustHim(Psalm32:10),thosewhocallupon Him(Psalm86:5),thosewhofearHim(Psalm103:11, 17),andthosewhoconfessandforsaketheirsin (Proverbs28:13).ThemercyofGodisHisnotgiving uswhatwedeserve.
