Meaning:SincetheBiblecommandsustopray withoutceasing,atalltimes,andabouteverything,it wouldbeimpossibletobealwaysonourknees.The Bibleteachesthatpeopleprayedstanding,kneeling, bowingdown,withhandsspreadforth,ontheirfaces beforeGod,andevenwhilewalking.Theoneposture thatoutwardlyshowsworshipandhumilityiskneeling orbowingdownbeforeGod.
Application:JesusisspeakingtoHisdisciplesinverse 46afterreturningfromprayingaloneandfindingthem sleeping.InthebookofMatthew,wehavetheaccountof thisstoryandJesussaid,"thespiritindeediswilling,but thefleshisweak."(Matthew26:41).Thetemptationto sleepwhileprayingcanbegreat,soJesustoldhis disciplesto"riseandpray."Enochisthegreatexampleof onewho"walkedwithGod."Nomatterwhatposturewe chooseforprayer,thekeyistopray.Godhearsprayers whetherwearestanding,sitting,kneeling,orwalking,so weshouldprayinwhateverpositionweareable.
