THE MAN WHO BECAME A KING
![]()
The Idea for making a zine inspired by the king of mr.olympia came to me because of the importance of bodybuilding in my life. Hey Guys, I am Ygor, a 17-year-old boy that has been chubby for most of my life. Up to my 15-years I was a low movements person, chubby and thought that everything was normal. However when I came to the U.S. everything changed in my life. The low active guy now was riding bikes and “running”, however, It was that much. When i started High School things really changed, I started to do weight training, the beginning was tough but a friend of mine always helped me to give the best of myself, as time passed on I saw a difference in my body and the way I would think about stuff also changed, by the end of the year i was in love with weight lifting. I was anxious though because I would do it over summer, that was the time when I decided that i would go to the Gym no matter what, I asked a “friend” my to help me since he was going a to the gym for a while, we partner up and ever since that moment I never stopped to go to the gym, I earn a new body, better health and a best friend. Chris Bumstead represents the overcoming of the difficult time, the never quit motivation and the rise of a normal guy to an inspiring king that influences many to change their life.

Ever since 1965, the man who held the coveted Mr. Olympia title was seen as the face of bodybuilding. But tastes change, and since 2016, the Classic Physique division has become one of the most popular classes in the entire sport. Showcasing bodybuilders with sleeker, more aesthetic physiques, this division is a throwback to the golden-age look of Arnold Schwarzenegger and Frank Zane. The unquestioned king of Classic Physique — and arguably the entire bodybuilding world — is Chris Bumstead.
Not only has Bumstead amassed the most Classic Physique Olympia wins in the division’s seven-year history, but he has no plans to stop competing anytime soon. When the dust settles on Bumstead’s career, he could be one of the most decorated Olympian champs in history.
Bumstead was born and raised in Ottawa, Ontario. He was involved in multiple sports in high school, including football, baseball, basketball, and hockey. He started weightlifting at the age of 14, and between the ninth and twelfth grade, he went from 170 to 225 pounds, growing his legs the most.] He attended Dalhousie University in Halifax, Nova Scotia. After building what he thought was a good physique, Bumstead met his first coach, professional bodybuilder Iain Valliere, who was dvating his sister. On October 19, 2022, Chris and Iain formally announced they would no longer be working together in order to focus on their own Mr. Olympia shows.
This developed Bumstead’s interest in athletics, and he began weightlifting during his freshman year of high school. His sister’s boyfriend, Iain Valliere, saw Bumstead’s potential and helped him prepare to compete. As his bodybuilding goals began to stack up, “All of a sudden, I was coming second at the Olympia,” he stated]. Bumstead’s first bodybuilding show was a regional level show in Ontario, which he participated in with his sister, Melissa Valliere. They both won the overall, with Bumstead winning as a junior. He found himself in love with the sport of bodybuilding after his first show. He started to work with Iain first hand and devoted his life to the sport.
Bumstead made his competitive debut in 2014 at 19 years old and obtained his IFBB pro card at age 21 after claiming the 2016 IFBB North American Bodybuilding Championship. He impressed the crowd and judges in his first Mr. Olympia back in 2017, taking second place in the Classic Physique category. His results were the same in the 2018 Mr. Olympia competition, although his condition was worse compared to the previous year. Bumstead was hospitalized 4 weeks out from the 2018 competition due to severe water retention. He spent three nights in the emergency room and was given a strong diuretic to flush out potassium due to a kidney issue.
Frank Zane, renowned in bodybuilding, epitomizes symmetry and sculpted physique. Winning Mr. Olympia thrice in the late ‘70s, his approach prioritized balance and aesthetics over sheer bulk. Zane’s legacy extends beyond titles; his philosophy of “mind, muscle, spirit” and emphasis on quality training inspire fitness enthusiasts globally. Zane won three times in a row
Ronnie Coleman, a titan in bodybuilding, redefined the sport with his massive size and record-setting eight Mr. Olympia wins. His relentless work ethic and indomitable spirit continue to inspire generations of fitness enthusiasts worldwide. For the old king he won 8 times in a row.
He has been competing in bodybuilding shows since he turned 21 years old. Ramovn Dino became a pro at the 2018 Amateur Olympia Brazil at the age of 23. If Ramon continues to compete, it may be only a matter of time before he assumes the mantle of number one man in Classic Physique. Based on the success he’s already achieved, he appears to be ready to hold that top spot. The main obstacle: Chris Bumstead.

What is your advidce for someone that just started?
“If you want to start in the process for change the first thing that I need to say: start slow and then increase the tension of your workout. Stay consistente because that is the number one thing that make people abandon gym. Have discipine, working out is important but your diet is also important, eat with quality not for the quantity, you can eat junk food something but not every day, drink water and sleep well. That’s my advice”.

The incident happened a year ago while Renato Cariani a brazilizian bodybuider was working out legs, he explain that due to the tension he create for holding in the support bars of the machine that made him break his biceps. The incedent got the atention of thousands of people since it was something most of the populations would expect
After the notice, Cariani said to the public that now the only way to fix what had broken was by cirurgy. After the cirurgy a lot of rest was taken even though the man didn’t want to rest that much. Today is fully recovered, yes, he had so recentment in doing leg press again but with the right precations he came back to his previous routines.
This case was brought to the public with the intention to warn the GYM Lovers, Cariani said that the best thing is not to force yourself to much, do first the easy then improve to what is hard, and if possible try to train with someone that can help you a lot, if he didn’t had anyone close to him the situation would be worse
