Hospitality, Connecting & DISCIPLESHIP MINISTRIES SUNDAY MORNING HOSPITALITY Help prepare, serve, and clean-up a light offering of food and drinks on Sundays between worship services. (Training provided) HOSPITALITY SHOPPERS Organize, purchase food items, and drop off by Saturday afternoon. Shoppers are reimbursed from the hospitality budget. GREETERS AND WELCOME DESK ATTENDANTS Welcome and celebrate worship attenders as they arrive on Sunday mornings. Direct new guests to the Welcome Desk for more information. All volunteers are provided information about Sunday School classrooms, services, and special events. There are extra Greeters needed for Christmas Eve and Easter services. (Both Greeters and Welcome Desk Attendants use a Sign-Up Genius to schedule volunteers.) SANCTUARY CARE Serve on a team that prepares the pews for weekly worship by straightening hymnals and tidying up the pews.

COMMUNITY WELCOME EVENT TEAM MEMBER Serve on a team that welcomes our neighbors to be our guests at three events per year.
FELLOWSHIP FRIEND Connect with newcomers to the Church and guide them through the new member process of joining the Church. Greet and introduce your fellowship friends and inform them about all the benefits and opportunities of becoming a member of HPCUMC. NEWCOMER’S BRUNCH/LUNCH VOLUNTEERS
Help to organize the list of those who receive invitations to attend, menus, decorations, and work with the Hospitality Team to promote the event. CHURCH OFFICE COVERAGE Serve on a team that greets and welcomes people in the front office, answers phone, etc. during staff meetings and other occasional events. Typically staff meetings are held on the first Wednesday morning of every month. (Training provided) RETREAT HOSPITALITY Purchase, pick-up food and supplies. Setup the hospitality food table and clean-up afterwards. Work with the retreat leader in the planning of the event. Be attentive to the needs of the retreatants. Commitment 2-3 times a year. Approximately 2-3 service hours.

CONNECT GROUP/SMALL GROUP FACILITATOR Facilitate a small group of 6-8 people to engage in the study of Scriptures, a faith-forming book, and develop relationships. Meet in whatever place the group feels comfortable (virtual or physical). Discuss study material with the Director of Connecting and Discipleship Ministries. Attend meetings with other Connect Group and Small Group leaders for spiritual renewal and growth 3 times a year.
Care MINISTRY
STEPHEN MINISTER Trained lay care givers who provide support to people facing many of life’s transitions. PRAYER SHAWL MINISTRY Join a team of servants who create handmade prayer shawls which are given to people experiencing challenging seasons or celebrations in life. Meets twice a month on Tuesday evenings. PRAYER TEAM Two prayer teams meet weekly—the Intercessory Prayer Group (Wednesdays 10:00 – 11:00 am); and the Electronic Prayer Chain which receives and lifts up prayer requests and concerns.
PHOTOGRAPHER Take action photos and videos of classes or groups to help promote spiritual development opportunities on our website. These sessions would be scheduled in advance. Work with the Director of Connecting & Discipleship Ministries and the Director of Communication and Creative Design. Commitment 4-times a year. Approximately 2-service hours.
SPIRITUAL DIRECTION A spiritual director supports a person (directee) on their journey by listening to the directee’s life story and by asking questions that help them to explore where God is showing up and what invitations God may be offering to them. HPCUMC has two Spiritual Directors to guide you on your journey. Contact mmenius@hpcumc.org to get connected to a spiritual director.

Worship MINISTRY COMMUNION PREPARATION TEAM Serve on a team that sets the Communion table the first Sunday of the month. COMMUNION SERVERS This team offers the bread and cup to the congregation on the first Sunday of the month. MEDIA TEAM Serves on a team that attends Tuesday evening rehearsal and advances slides during Worship @ 11. WORSHIP HOST Serves on a team that leads the congregation in Worship @ 11. Detailed notes provided each week.

SEASONAL WORSHIP SET-UP/TEARDOWN This team enhances the beauty of our sanctuary by helping us celebrate the liturgical seasons of the year. VIDEO CAMERA OPERATOR Serves on a team that provides our live stream broadcast. ACOLYTES Light candles on the altar and other candles as needed during worship at 8:00 and 9:30 a.m. ALTAR GUILD Clean and maintain linens and paraments used in worship.

LITURGISTS Serves on a team that leads the congregation in worship at 8:00 and 9:30 a.m. Detailed notes provided each week. USHERS Greet and welcome people to God’s house, assisting new guests, hand out bulletins, and receiving the offering. WEEKLY ORDER OF WORSHIP ASSEMBLY TEAM Serve on a team that helps prepare bulletins for worship, including addition of inserts.

Music MINISTRY THE WESLEY CHOIR (8:00AM) The Wesley Choirs brings anthems and offertories to the 8:00am service on Sundays from September through June, as well as brings participation in special seasonal worship services. No previous choral experience is required. Rehearsals are Wednesdays from 7:00pm-9:00pm. CARILLON CHOIR OF HANDBELLS The Carillon Choir brings the festive brilliance of handbell music to all of our worship services on select Sundays, and rehearses on Monday evenings from 7:00pm-8:30pm. There are openings for new members, either experienced or just beginning.

THE CATHEDRAL CHOIR (9:30AM) The Cathedral Choir strives to provide sacred choral repertoire at its highest level. No prepared audition is required, but previous choral experience is recommended. The Cathedral Choirs sing in the 9:30am Sunday morning worship service from September through June, and rehearse from 7:00pm-9:00pm every Thursday.
YOUTH CHOIR The Youth Choir program meets during the school year for students from 7th grade - 12th grade. This choir works together to decide how they will musically and creatively contribute to our Sunday morning worship services. Rehearsals are from 6:00pm-6:45pm following Youth Group on Sunday evenings.
CHILDREN’S CHOIRS The Joy Singers (ages Preschool- 2nd grade) and the Sunshine Singers (ages 3rd6th grade) are choirs that bring a joyful song to our worship services throughout the school year. Both choirs meet during the 11:00am worship time. All are invited to join!

WORSHIP @ 11 PRAISE BAND Our Praise Band features singers and instrumentalists active in Cincinnati’s music and theatre scene, and consistently delivers a powerful and authentic worship experience to those who attend the 11:00am Sunday worship service. In addition to Sunday mornings, the Praise Band puts on multiple concerts throughout the year. Those with a heart and ear for contemporary Christian music are encouraged to audition. ORGAN CONCERT SERIES VOLUNTEERS Our renowned concert series presents three world-class artists to hundreds of attendees each year. Volunteers bake cookies for receptions, assist with event set-up/clean-up and extend hospitality as ushers.

NURSERY VOLUNTEER Our littlest ones need our love! We hope to get a team of volunteers together to rotate throughout the year. This can be once a month or once a quarter – you decide!
CONFIRMATION TEACHER Be part of a team of teachers using our UMC Confirmation curriculum. We meet with the youth on Sunday mornings from 9:30-11:00am from January until May.
SUNDAY SCHOOL TEACHER For one hour, during the 9:30 service, you would be a small group leader and dive into a Bible lesson, lead a fun activity, and pray together. The lesson and materials are provided for you each week. You will be matched with preschool, elementary, middle school, or high school after we learn more about you! Teachers can teach once a month, twice a month, or as needed. This is a wonderful way to connect with families and for you deepen your faith as well!
SPECIAL EVENTS TEAM We need volunteers to help us with our special events. Our special events range from hosting an evening Live Nativity or Easter Egg Hunt all the way to our awesome Vacation Bible School. These seasonal events cannot happen without wonderful volunteers like you!
SUNDAY SCHOOL ASSISTANT If you would like to help out in a Sunday School class, you can be an assistant! Being an assistant would mean having a second adult present in the room to assist with anything extra that might be needed.

Young Adult MINISTRY
MONDAY NIGHT STUDY DISCUSSION FACILITATOR (young adult only) Be part of the “young adult teaching team” for the Monday night studies! Valuing a variety of perspectives and voices, the hope is to rotate who is leading the weekly discussion. Before each new study begins, those on the team will choose what date(s) works best for them to prepare questions and facilitate the discussion for the young adult group.
Senior Adult MINISTRY
DRIVER FOR SUNDAY WORSHIP Once-a-month drive a member who is not able to drive themselves to and from a church service in your personal vehicle. DRIVER FOR THURSDAY EDITION Up to once-a-month help transport members to venues for local excursions in your personal vehicle. FIRST FRIDAY FELLOWSHIP SUPPORT Volunteer to support the monthly luncheon and program (held 8 times per year) by assisting with set-up, serving, or clean-up activities.

YOUNG ADULT BRUNCH HOST (young adult only) On the second Sunday of the month, the young adults gather for brunch and building relationships. There is an opportunity to open your home up to host the brunch choosing to either carryin or prepare the food yourself (you can also be reimbursed for the food if desired).

FRIENDLY VISITOR Once or twice a month contact an assigned church member who is no longer able to attend church with a visit or phone call. HOMEBOUND COMMUNION STEWARD At least three times a year communion is taken to our homebound members (World Communion Day, and during the weeks before Easter and Christmas), as well as by member request. Instructions, a brief liturgy/prayers, and communion elements are provided.

SUPER SERVE SATURDAY (monthly September – May) Super Serve Saturday takes place on the 3rd Saturday of the month as a way to bring families, multiple generations, and people of all background together as we serve in meaningful ways throughout Cincinnati. There is something for each age and ability – no superpowers necessary – just a willing, humble, and flexible spirit and heart for all. Sign up to be part of this team and get communication about what projects and partners we will be serving with for each month. CENTER FOR RESPITE CARE FOOD SHOPPING (monthly or quarterly) “Shop for Jesus” once a month or a few times a year to provide food for meals and the pantry at The Center for Respite Care.

CENTER FOR RESPITE CARE PREPARE AND SHARE A MEAL (monthly or quarterly) Currently, prepare part of a meal and drop off at the church to be taken to our neighbors healing at The Center for Respite Care. Post-COVID restrictions - prepare, serve, and share a meal with our neighbors healing at The Center for Respite Care.
2020 HAMILTON COUNTY JUVENILE CENTER - MENTORING YOUTH (monthly) Post-COVID restrictions, once a month go to the Juvenile Detention Center to spend time visiting with young men and/or women. Spend time building relationships through playing board and card games and sharing the love of Jesus through study and discussion. Background checks required. HABITAT FOR HUMANITY BUILDS (Spring-Summer) No experience needed to be part changing a family’s life by providing safe and affordable housing. Learn new skills and meet new people! INTERFAITH HOSPITALITY NETWORK (IHN) ROOM PREPARATION (1-5x / year) Post-COVID restrictions - serve on Sunday afternoons a few times a year to help prepare rooms for families we will be hosting for the week! The team will make up beds and layout supplies to welcome each family.

INTERFAITH HOSPITALITY NETWORK (IHN) PREPARE DINNER (1-5x / year) Post-COVID restrictions - provide and prepare a meal for IHN families one time during their week stay. Meals feed between 20 – 25 people depending on family sizes.
INTERFAITH HOSPITALITY NETWORK (IHN) LAUNDRY (1-5x / year) Post COVID restrictions - pick up the laundry (bed linens and towels) on Sunday, wash and return to the church for storage.
INTERFAITH HOSPITALITY NETWORK (IHN) DINNER HOST (1-5x / year) Post COVID restrictions - share a meal with the IHN families, help children with homework when needed, talk with the family, play with the children, etc. This can be done once or as many evenings through the week as desired.
ROTHENBERG TUTOR (weekly October – April) Make a difference in the life of one 3th grader by mentoring and tutoring them in reading once a week. Tutors can pick from Tuesdays or Thursdays from 1:15p – 2:00p. Federal background checks (including fingerprinting) required.
INTERFAITH HOSPITALITY NETWORK (IHN) OVERNIGHT HOST (1-5x / year) Post COVID restrictions - sleep in a bed provided in the church in a separate room from IHN families to meet any needs or answer any questions. Wake up families for breakfast and help get them on the bus for the day. Shift is from 8:00p – 7:30a
SUMMER IMPACT PREPARE MEALS FOR TEAMS (June – July) Prepare and serve dinner to Summer Impact teams on Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, or Thursday after their long day of serving in Cincinnati. You can serve one time or as many times as you want June – July. The largest sized group would be 50 people but each week will vary.

LOCAL THANKSGIVING BASKET CALL BANK (November) On Saturday, November 20 call our neighbors receiving Thanksgiving baskets to remind them of the delivery and confirm their address. THANKSGIVING BASKET ASSEMBLY (November) On Sunday, November 21 help assemble over 550 Thanksgiving basket to be delivered to agencies and families in our community. Assembly takes place from 10:00a and goes until all boxes are completed (usually by noon). THANKSGIVING BASKET DELIVERY (November) Experience the joy and smiles of families by delivering Thanksgiving baskets to the home of families. Both addresses and maps are provided. WESLEY CHAPEL MISSION CENTER (afterschool and Saturdays) Make a difference in the lives of children in Over-the-Rhine by being a mentor at Wesley Chapel’s after school program from 3:00 – 5:00p or Saturday mornings or afternoons.

OUTREACH
GLOBAL CLUJ, ROMANIA SERVE TEAM (early March 2022) Continue the partnership made in 2017 with our Romania brothers and sisters! Sarah Putman, a missionary out of HPCUMC, will be an integral part of the trip as well as UMC Romania pastor, Rares. Past trips have included a women’s retreat, time in Roma villages, playing soccer with children in foster care/orphanages, and learning about NGO’s and how the UMC is forming in Romania! FAITH ACADEMY, HAITI SERVE TEAM (Visit date TBD) Partnering with Servants in Fellowship and Faith Academy, the team will help with capital improvements projects at the local school and potentially run a medical clinic as a way to share the love of Jesus through ministry to the heart, body, and mind. Sign up to be part of this team and get communication when the visit date is confirmed for 2023 or 2024.
SAMARA, RUSSIA SERVE TEAM (June 2022) Minister alongside our brothers and sisters in Samara, Russia! As the team forms, we will craft what our trip will look like based on the God-given talents, abilities, and gifts that will help further the partnership and relationships with our friends in Russia! TIJUANA CHRISTIAN MISSION, MEXICO SERVE TEAM (Visit date TBD) Tijuana Christian Mission is an orphanage that cares for infants through college students in the suburb of Tijuana and Rosarito, Mexico. An intergenerational group of 22 visited in the summer of 2019 helping with capital improvement projects for the orphanage and building relationships with the children and youth. Sign up to be part of this team and get communication when the visit date is confirmed for 2023 or 2024.
