Protests erupt over Coldwater By KAITLIN MUSANTE
âHey hey, ho ho, this bad projectâs got to go,â neighbors chanted during one of the two protests held this month against the schoolâs proposed parking structure. This recent uptick in opposition follows the City Planning Committeeâs delay of the parking discussion, which has been moved from Sept. 28 to an unknown date in the future. President of Save Coldwater Canyon Sarah Boyd said that the organization aims to highlight their many concerns about the proposal, such as its effects on trafďŹc, the environment and public health. The organization has also reached out to political ofďŹcials, such as City Council member Paul Kerkorian. âWe wanted to raise awareness about the project to all the commuters already stuck in such horrible trafďŹc,â Boyd said. During the protests, attendees stood on Coldwater Canyon Avenue holding up handmade signs reading slogans such as âKerkorian: Ask Harvard-Westlake to increase carpooling!â and âKeep Harvard-Westlake on the East Side of Coldwater.â Students said that they felt overwhelmed by protestors on their way to school. âA guy came up really close

I was deďŹnitely a little nervous in the
chair. I wasnât sure what I was supposed to do with my hands and my eyes and anything.â Bahar felt conďŹdent in asking Novicoff because of her status as a senior , she said. âBeing a senior kind of gives you the conďŹdence and lets you get away with certain things because people respect you more,â Bahar said. âSo
even if youâre doing something crazy on the quad, people wonât judge as much because theyâll respect that itâs something a senior is doing.â Bahar said she has noticed that signiďŹcantly more girls have asked their dates to formal this year, especially among the senior class. âI feel like our grade has a really big, conďŹdent group of ⢠Continued on B8
