Throughout the school year, research projects, speakers, and panels help girls understand Memphis’ uniqueness as a city. Culminating projects by the girls are archived and added to the incredible resources donated to our library by historian and author Perre Magness. It was also the first film funded by Kickstarter to win an Oscar. the endeavors program The Endeavors Program is a Hutchison lower school enrichment opportunity for third and fourth grade girls. The purpose of the program is to connect this age girl with peers who share similar interests. Interest in activities should be followed by prompt registration as enrollment is determined on a first-come, firstserved basis. Class size will vary by activity, and activities will close at the predetermined enrollment limit. the challenge program The Challenge Program offers academic enrichment for Hutchison middle school girls. Challenge activities are geared toward girls with talents and interests in academic areas beyond the day program curriculum. Class size will vary by activity, and activities will close at the predetermined enrollment limit. Challenge WORDSMITH For Hutchison girls in grades 7–8 Learn skills and participate in WordSmith, an annual writing contest for Mid-South students in grades 7–12. Held at the University of Memphis, The WordSmith Tournament Day events test students’ skills in four modes of non-fiction: description, narration, persuasion, and exposition. Challenge MATHCOUNTS For Hutchison girls in grades 7–8 Girls rock at math! The MATHCOUNTS Competition is a national middle school mathematics program that promotes high achievement in mathematics inspiring excellence, confidence, and curiosity through fun and challenging math programs. Challenge YOUTH LEGISLATURE For Hutchison girls in grades 7–8 Tennessee Youth Legislature is a program that allows students from across the region to participate in a mock legislature session every spring. Join hundreds of other students to debate state issues, argue Supreme Court cases, prepare a conference-wide newspaper, and preside over committee sessions as officers—all in the actual state legislature facilities. Challenge MODEL UN For Hutchison girls in grades 7–8 A simulation of the United Nations, Model United Nations educates participants about civics, current events, effective communication, globalization, and multilateral diplomacy. Research a country, investigate international issues, debate, deliberate, and develop solutions to real world problems.

This workshop is specifically designed to give teachers and administrators both the information they need to understand the effects of various types of substance abuse, and the tools they need to identify it and intervene effectively and to review the latest trends and research. Viewpoints is an improvisationbased technique that provides actors with a tool box and vocabulary for exploring a play through movement and gesture. This technique was developed in the 1970s by choreographer Mary Overlie and was further developed for actors by director Anne Bogart and playwright-director Tina Landau. center for excellence general information admission Admission is granted to qualified students

in the order in which completed registration forms with payments/ deposits are received. Hutchison welcomes qualified students of any race, color, religion, or ethnic origin to summer program activities.

refund policy Center for Excellence fees are refunded

in full when the session for which an enrollment was submitted is at capacity or the session is cancelled by Hutchison. Except in the cases of illness or emergency that are disclosed to the Center for Excellence office prior to the start of an activity, refunds will not be given after a session begins. For Center for Excellence classes, a withdrawal request that occurs at least five (5) business days prior to the first class meeting will result in a refund/credit of fees. After five (5) days prior to the first class meeting, there will be no refund of fees.

transportation and supervision Students should arrive on time and be picked up promptly at the end of each class or camp. For the safety and security of all participants, girls and boys left unsupervised on campus before or after camp sessions will be escorted to Early/Extended Care. Parents will be charged $15 per day. An additional charge of $5.00 per minute will be assessed for all SPARK participants remaining on campus after 6:05 pm. This fee must be paid at the time of pick up.

registration Registration is required for each Center for Excellence offering. Sessions are filled on a first-come basis. Please enroll early. Any registrations received after a class has reached capacity will be returned with a full refund. Mail the completed application and payment in full for each selected class and seminar to Hutchison Center for Excellence Program, 1740 Ridgeway Road, Memphis, TN 38119.
