We are Humankind Humankind is a leader in the area of child development in the Netherlands. What started as childcare in 1983, now goes much further. Around 2900 employees use their early learning expertise as they put all their energy into helping every child to grow and blossom to their full potential. Humankind is small, close, warm and tender but at the same time big and ambitious. This allows us to make a contribution to a better society. Because every child who grows up to become a strong adult makes our world a better place.
Childcare? Child development! The power of togetherness A brilliant childhood lasts a lifetime. The environment in which a child grows up forms the foundation for his or her life in the future, for happiness, health, behaviour, development and talents. Our contribution is strengthening the circle around the child. We believe that if all parties involved work together around a child, we create an ecosystem that allows a child to develop to their full potential: It takes a village to raise a child! At a national level too, we and other players in the field are making a powerful and impactful contribution to helping children grow and blossom. Everyone is welcome.

We are Humankind The strength of every child Growing up is usually something that happens naturally, but to truly blossom takes more. Every contact with Humankind benefits each growing child and has a lasting positive impact. Whoever you are, whatever your needs and talents are: at Humankind, every child will discover himself or herself, make friends and, little by little, get to know the rest of the world too. Every person, every child is unique and worthy, taking care of themselves and others as well as people and nature.
Children are explorers. From a young age they are curious about anything that is new or different. We encourage every child to be themselves and to get the best out of themselves, at their own pace and heading in their own direction. Being true to yourself even in a group. Or especially in a group.

A child that can sit independently will want to feed themselves. And make a mess. A child that can walk will love nothing better than jumping, climbing, clambering and mucking about. Playing, discovering and learning for themselves. What they can do and what doesn’t really work. Within the boundaries of what is safe, of course.

We get children moving, literally and figuratively. We integrate learning with movement at all our locations and our children spend a minimum of 25% of the time outside. There’s no such thing as bad weather; there’s always something to experience. The youngest children can sleep outside. And now and then we visit the baker together. Or a petting farm.

For us it’s as clear as day: children take part, play a role and make decisions. About the little things and the big things. In general, children have a very good idea of what they need themselves. Or what a situation needs. Children have a unique way of looking at things that we as adults can sometimes make more complicated than they need to be. They constantly surprise us with their fresh perspective and unlimited ability to think creatively.

You will be able to see how close people and nature are to our hearts by our -very detailed- sustainable way of working and activities with children. From furniture to company clothing. From toys to toilet paper. From mini-recycling centers to a campaign for the wild bee. We take social responsibility and try to pass our love for the world on to the children.
