Thailand’s history began with early prehistoric cultures and later Buddhist-influenced kingdoms like Dvaravati. Thai power rose with the Sukhothai Kingdom in the 13th century, followed by the long and influential Ayutthaya Kingdom, which shaped much of Thai culture. After Ayutthaya fell, the Thonburi Kingdom reunified the land, leading to the Rattanakosin era and the founding of Bangkok in 1782. Thailand modernized, avoided colonization, and became a constitutional monarchy in 1932, developing into the nation it is today.
