COMPASSION + ACTION March is a time to celebrate the great profession of social work! It’s a profession aimed at enhancing individual, family, and community well-being by addressing social issues and advocating for change. Social Work encompasses direct support, advocacy, and systemic initiatives. Professionals in this field understand and apply specialized knowledge of human behavior and the social environment to engage with diverse populations. Issues such as senior care, abuse, mental health, and many others can be addressed through direct support, advocacy, and systemic change. Social Workers use empathy and interpersonal skills to develop trusting relationships to assess the needs of the individual. The Senior InfoLine provided by the City of Fremont Human Services Department features social workers and counselors available to assist callers with a range of concerns including transportation, health insurance, and financial resources. Senior Infoline staff offer complimentary information to the public regarding community resources for older adults. Their service is accessible in four languages: English, Mandarin, Spanish and Farsi. Callers get insights on benefits, employment, housing, home modifications, nutritious meals, and emotional support services. To contact the Senior InfoLine, please call 510-574-2041 and discover how you can maintain your independence while aging safely in your community.
