ACADEMIC DESIGN PROJECTS

Community Based Tourism has become one of the most sustainable strategy for gradually growing tourism industry in recent years. Magnificent scenic beauty of the Sundarbans attracted tourists from home and abroad from many years. Recent practice of so called eco resorts brought up many problems like adding riches to the rich people only (which causes economic inequity), lack of awareness of environmental sustainability creating further problem of not preserving the existing natural beauty and social barrier between the local people and the travellers . Lack of emphasis on living and recreational facilities, lack of awareness about environmental and ecological aspects and most importantly lack of economic opportunitiesfor the local people are the crying needs of mangrove region in Bangladesh. The study is focused to promote the social, environmental and ecological significance of the Sundarbans, creating an economic opportunity to contribute the economy of local people as well as the country and the earth. The research question addresses the process and opportunities of implementing community-based tourism, when it comes for experiencing the landscape and lifestyle of A natural heritage site.

EXPLORATION OF THE LANDSCAPE LIFESTYLE INTERFACE THROUGH COMMUNITY BASED TOURISM: A CASE OF THE SUNDARBANS

ISSUES:

1. Lack of preservation of existing landscape of sundarbans.

2. Ignorance about the lifestyle of local people.

3. Lack of facilities for promotion of local lifestyle & preservation of sunderbans.

OBJECTIVES:

1. To create spaces that represent the landscape of sunderbans.

2. To synthesize spaces for exploring the lifestyle of local community.

3. To fabricate accommodation facilities for tourists with the existing community.

CULTURAL & RESEARCH CENTER FOR INDIGENOUS PEOPLE

Location: Probortok Circle, Chittagong.

Site area:2.07 Acre.

Due to local political conflicts and various other issues, indigenous people are not being able to establish a proper exposure of their art & culture.Apart from fulfilling basic needs, they need to carry their tradition generation by generation. But illiteracy, ignorance and lack of sharing have been the major constraints. CDA, already, has a proposal for using the Prabartak hills as an exhibit of cultural significance according to the proposed DAP.

GRADUAL UPWARD GROWTH

Ashroyon is one of the most significant steps to shelter the homeless, landless & routeless people of Bangladesh by the Government of Bangladesh. Though it was meant to be built for the victims of natural calamities, it is quite unable in some places to serve the expected group.

To re-construct the project and project policies is the main goal of this project. By designing the community as an extention of the existing village rather than just a ‘Barack’ I the main design concept and thus the project is guided towards a combination of traditional architecture, economic and socio-cultural involvement, incrementality , skill & income source development, co-operative approach with NGOs & Government organizations and disaster resilience.

RECONSTRUCTING ASHROYON

RAPID

PROTOTYPE SHELTER DESIGN

The form finding process of our project is Inspired by origami structures. Based on a simple technique, origami gives birth To an astonishing formal richness and Variability. Simplest geometric form, hemisphere , has been Chosen, which is compatible with both harsh climate, as Well as universal context. This simplest form has been Fused with origami structure to enhance structural Qualities to cope up with any post disaster situation. Rigid origami has the potential to create Transformable or temporary spaces since they can be Scaled while keeping their property of forming Continuous surfaces without in-plane deformation.

Historically, Dakbangla was the rest house & tax collection office of the SDO (Sub Divisional Officer),which worked functionally even since the ‘90s. But as the demand of the location kept rising as a market and the area started to become subject of conjestion day by day,the dillemma between saving the archeological fabric and fullfilling the demand of time became tougher. This project focuses on promoting the enterpreneurship to increase business values, but providing the spatial experience of colonial fabric, which is quite merged with the urban fabric of Khulna city.

BEYOND GROUND ZERO: NEGOTIATING CULTURAL MEMORY &ECONOMIC

PROPOSED MASTER PLAN

SCIENCE PARK

In this age of globalization, Bangladesh is passing through the technological revolution. The assigned project was a ground-breaking idea for Khulna (the south western divisional city of Bangladesh). Focusing on the multitasking and participative professionals of Gen Y. Our project drew the design solution to create technological interactive work space (both in sense of space and technological mechanisms) following the futuristic appearance in built forms. The site location was chosen in close proximity to the university to ease the accessibility for young practitioners. The project offered space for interactive training and patronization as well as creating scope for knowledge sharing.

HIGHRISE COMMERCIAL COMPLEX

This project was conceptualized as the hub for dynamic urban culture. The location was at Jahangirgate at old airport road , particularly the site of ‘Shadheenota Tower’. Overlooking the height restriction of the site (academically), the project is consisted of spaces that creates view to flow the dynamic height of the tower. To relate the scale and structure was one of the main challenges of the project.

dwelling for inspiration

A residence is always defined as the most peaceful place for it’s owner. This project aims to design a duplex residence as a journey through the green. The expression of forms and structural elements guide to achieve the intimate cozy spaces for intense own circle.
