The 2016 Budget The HRCA Finance Committee, a volunteer group, will be voting to recommend the 2016 HRCA budget to the Board of Directors on Tuesday October 13. The draft budget will be posted for homeowners to review at www.HRCAonline.org/Budget. The 2016 budget will be presented to Delegates at the October 20 meeting, and a final budget will be adopted at the November 17 Board of Directors meeting.
Senior Health and Information Fair In partnership with the Highlands Ranch Metro District, the HRCA will host the 4th annual Senior Health and Information Fair Saturday, November 14, 9:00 a.m. - noon at the Recreation Center at Eastridge. Join us for this great event with local service providers. A variety of free, simple health screenings will be offered. Group Homes in the Ranch - Group Homes are residents with a small number of unrelated persons in need of care , support, or supervision. We have received comments and concerns from several residents about new group homes in our community. As part of the Federal Fair Housing Act, group homes are permitted in Highlands Ranch. As a homeowners association we are limited in what we can control in reference to these group homes, and we can only ensure that they adhere to the architectural guidelines. HRCA Draft 2016 Budget - The Finance Committee presented their proposed 2016 budget to the Board of Directors and the Delegates on October 20. Community News Winter Property Prep Fall is here, so now is the perfect time to prepare your lawn and landscaping for the winter. Here are some tips to help you prepare: • Aerate and/or dethatch your lawn. • Restore bare spots or re-sod the entire lawn. • Apply a winter fertilizer. • Prune and remove dead tree branches. • Plant trees and shrubs now so that they can become well-established before the winter freeze begins. • Before shutting down the sprinklers, give your lawn a good watering to prevent root damage that can occur over the winter. • Disconnect your hoses and have your sprinkler system blown out to prevent pipe freezing. Fall is also a good time to assess your property, so you can plan and budget for future maintenance needs. Trash Containers Proposed RIG Changes – The HRCA Board of Directors and Architectural Committee are proposing the following requirements regarding trash collection in our community. We are hopeful the proposed changes will help mitigate the ever growing litter problem within our neighborhoods. The current proposal is being “vetted” for public comment, and we have heard your concerns loud and clear. Consequently, the deadline has been extended until November 10 to allow residents ample time to respond. At the close of the comment period, the HRCA Board of Directors and staff will review the submitted comments and suggestions received and will make a determination on how to proceed. In essence, after feedback from the community, the new condition requires that residents keep their trash in containers that have lids to keep the trash and recycling contained, with the option to put any landscaping material in sealed bags. Residents are encouraged to voice their concerns and comments to ensure all avenues are explored prior to the implementation of any guideline change. Collaboration with our residents is paramount in maintaining our beautiful community and enhancing our property values. Holiday House Decorating Contest Do you spend hours creating the most festive house on the block during the holidays? Do your Christmas decorations put Clark Griswold to shame? Well, by entering the HRCA’s Holiday House Decorating Contest, it can pay off! The first, second, and third place winners will each receive a cash award from Wells Fargo, and have an award sign placed in their front yard, be recognized in the HRCA News, on HRCA's Facebook page, and have their home’s photo featured on the HRCA web site. To enter, take a photo of your Highlands Ranch home at night while lit and decorated. Fill out and submit the online form (where you will upload the photo) by 5:00 p.m. on December 7. Nutcracker Highlights The Highlands Ranch Cultural Affairs Association (CAA) presents the holiday must-see, The Nutcracker "Highlights.” This is one Christmas tradition that many families enjoy year after year. The International Youth Ballet returns to Highlands Ranch to perform one-hour performances of The Nutcracker Suite; perfect for families with small children! Each child will receive a nutcracker to take home! This performance will leave little ones with visions of sugarplums dancing in their heads! U.S. TROOPS RUNNING THE BACKCOUNTRY WILDERNESS HALF MARATHON…IN KUWAIT The HR Race Series is proud to support our military in Camp Arifjan, Kuwait who are part of a running group called the Kuwait Running Mafia. The group will be running together in November in order to participate in our Backcountry Wilderness Half Marathon from overseas. We will be sending them a race care package which will include Backcountry Wilderness Half Marathon shirts, bibs, and finisher medals. We are excited to have them join us virtually and want to thank them for their service!
HRCA is excited to introduce three new Saturday youth tennis classes! The Future Stars class for ages 7 and 8 now has a Level 3 class from 1:00 - 2:00 p.m. For the 8-10 ages, a Level 2 class has been added from 11:00 a.m. - noon, and a Level 3 from Noon - 1:00 p.m. Call 303-471-8940 with any questions or to register today! The Highlands Ranch Race Series will be hosting the Backcountry Wilderness Half Marathon on Saturday, November 7, 2015 at Paintbrush Park. The event will begin at 7:30 a.m. and end at approximately 2:00 p.m.
Looking for a great way to boost motivation and kick start your New Year’s resolution weight loss goals? Challenge yourself (or with a friend) and join our 60-Day Body Transformation Challenge where you will work with a Personal Trainer for 16 sessions over a 60-day period. You will compete against other individuals or teams of two to see who can achieve the highest percentage of weight loss. The top three winners in both the individual and the team challenge will win prizes. All participants will receive a body composition report at the beginning and the end of the Challenge. The Challenge will begin on Monday, January 11. New for 2016 – all participants will get a free entry into the St. Patrick’s Day 5K! Participants will run/walk together with their trainers at the race on Saturday, March 12 and celebrate their accomplishments. Registration for the Challenge will begin in December. The Power of ART As Albert Einstein once said, “Imagination is more powerful than knowledge.” As the cool temperatures settle in, it’s time to give your children, and yourselves, an opportunity to nurture your imagination. HRCA offers a variety of art and pottery programs to suit all ages and family schedules. This chilly, fall month try enrolling in Thanksgiving Portraits for ages 3-5, The First Thanksgiving for 5-8 year olds or Nature's Bounty for children ages 5-11. Turkey Time and Pilgrim’s Pride will be our theme for Play with Clay and Mud Pies Pottery classes.
Music fosters important developmental skills for your children. From strengthening memory and developing language skills, to reinforcing listening skills and creativity. We offer a variety of music classes at HRCA including Fun Keys and Crocodile Rock. Classes range from 9:00 a.m. to 5:15 p.m. Get your child enrolled for these magical classes!
