2014 HRCA ELECTIONS BEGIN Your voice can be heard and you can make a difference by getting involved in our community. The HRCA has annual elections for directors and district delegates. Directors are elected by district delegates in March at the Annual Meeting of Delegates and serve staggered two-year terms. There are five director positions, three of which are up for election this year. Deadline for Board Candidate Applications was January 31. Submitted applications will be posted on the HRCA web site on February 4. Delegates are elected by their district constituents in April. This year we have elections for evennumbered and vacant districts. Find out more by going to the web site at www.HRCAonline.org/ Leadership.
w ho is m y d elegate ? Highlands Ranch is divided into neighborhood “districts.” Each district has an elected “delegate.” This delegate is your voice for community and Association matters. Delegates gather monthly, the third Tuesday of each month, for the Delegate Meeting at Eastridge. Delegates make recommendations to the board of directors on important matters that impact our community. You can (and should) contact your delegate to keep up-to-date on what’s going on in the Ranch. scholarshi p s available The Highlands Ranch Community Scholarship Fund (HRCSF) provides $1000 scholarships for graduating seniors residing in Highlands Ranch or attending a Highlands Ranch high school. Events and Activities – This month we celebrate Chinese New Year, the Year of the Horse, with cultural art and music performances on Saturday, February 8. The Winter Cultural Series showcases a jazz orchestra and Broadway tunes two Thursday evenings in February. Kids' Nite Out, one of our newest programs, provides a great opportunity for your 1-6 grader to enjoy activities and make new friends on Saturdays, 6:30 - 9:30 p.m. Please refer to our web site calendar for the most current information on all these events and more.

Energy Savings Program – As I mentioned before, the energy savings program retrofits are on target to be completed by the April deadline. You may notice large cranes and new equipment being installed in the recreation centers and over the next few months this equipment will be configured and tweaked to be fully operational by April. HRCA Reaches Out – As a non profit many volunteers reach out to HRCA to help us fulfill our goals and missions, and, in turn, the HRCA reaches out to others. For example, through a chance meeting between a volunteer with Hunt of a Lifetime and the HRCA Backcountry Wilderness Area Supervisor, Devin Reeder, an 18 year old from West Virginia with a rare bone cancer had his dream to hunt Elk in the west come true when HRCA donated an elk hunt, see http://highlandsranchherald.net/stories/Donated-HRCAhunt-a-success,139338.

And after the tradegy experienced at Arapahoe High School we were happy to assist their Dive Team by allowing them to use the dive well at Northridge for their practices during December. HRCA was pleased to provide space for their use while their buildings were unavailable during December.

Other examples of HRCA’s giving include – The annual Taste of Highlands Ranch silent auction proceeds which benefit a nonprofit; last year $7,435 was raised for The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. Each HRCA Race Series race raises money for a nonprofit. The Highlands Ranch Community Scholarship Fund annually gives scholarships to approximately 20 competing Highlands Ranch high school Seniors. Reaching out to others allows HRCA to connect to the community, those in need, and make our community a better place.

cOMMUNITY Improvement news McKinstry Energy Project in action Construction at Northridge and Eastridge The HRCA and McKinstry in partnership with the Colorado Energy Office completed an extensive six month technical energy audit which entailed monitoring, testing and thoroughly inspecting all of the operating equipment/systems at all four recreation centers. The findings from the audit provided the basis for projects that will improve our buildings, dramatically reduce utility costs and increase the air quality for everyone that enjoys our facilities. The below photos show the work last month at the Recreation Center at Northridge. The project replaced Pool and Air Handling units and a Chiller unit over the course of two days. The project also replaced 60 lights in the Northridge Tennis Pavilion. Here are the specs for the equipment used: The crane pick utilized a 400-ton hydro crane with the following parameters:
• The crane stands 140' tall, approximately12 stories tall (2nd largest hydro crane available in Colorado). • The crane boom and jib is over 220' long and weighs over 18,000 lbs • The weight of the new Air Handling Units are 13,000 lbs (24' L x 8' W x 9' T) and 10,000 lbs (24' L x 8' W x 9' T) each. Similar work begins in late February at the Recreation Center at Eastridge.
