2026 SEASON PREMIÈRE

If you were paying attention to South African equestrian sport last year, the production value, the attention to detail and, of course, the pure numbers from the Callaho Warmblood Stud Auction would have been difficult to ignore. Across thirty–one lots, the horses achieved an enormous R21 million in total turnover. With a top price of R2.2 million for Callaho Hang Ten, a Chupalight son whose effortless elasticity and careful technique drew comparison with the best horses offered at European auctions; a mean sporthorse price of R815,000; a price distribution that revealed not just a few headline–grabbers pulling up an average, but a genuinely mature and confident market trading at levels this country had

not previously seen; and, of course, an exceptional event, easily on par with those seen internationally. It was, by any honest measure, a statement auction, and it raised an obvious question: what comes next?

To understand the answer, it helps to understand what made 2025 possible in the first place. With a smaller, more focused collection, Callaho found the freedom to be genuinely brave with their format. Rather than drawing buyers to the horses in the conventional sense, they brought the horses to the buyers, in a format that rewrote expectations of what a South African stud auction could look, feel and sound like.

This year, the breeding numbers have returned. And Callaho's response is characteristically considered: rather than simply stage the same event twice, the stud has drawn inspiration from a different kind of institution entirely, one very familiar to them – the tradition of the family business. Think of the Greek yiayia or the Italian nonna who gathers her most trusted circle at the start of a new season, not to sell necessarily, but to show them what the season has brought. The conversation happens before the commerce. The relationship comes before the transaction.

That is the spirit behind the 2026 Season Première. Not an auction in the conventional sense, but an evening where commercial urgency steps aside for something Callaho places above it: connection,

integrity and the kind of loyalty that is only built in person, over years, through shared passions. A setting without restrictions on movement or allocated seats, where buyers are actively encouraged to walk into the stables during bidding, to take one last quiet moment with a horse before the gavel falls.

The 2026 Season Première is the first of the stud's two annual offerings, with the larger Gala Auction to follow in October. This first auction sees Callaho at its most ‘itself’: the same considered breeding decisions, the same uncompromising presentation standards, the same absolute confidence in what is on offer. Simply experienced, for once, the way the stud has always believed horses and people should meet. Closely, unhurriedly, and with real conversation in the room.

STEYN CITY AND THE WORLD CUP WEEKEND

The 2026 Season Première takes place at Steyn City Equestrian Centre in Johannesburg. Online pre–bidding opens on Wednesday, 27 May, with stable visits of the collection available at the venue each afternoon from Wednesday through Friday between 14h00 and 17h00. The live Auction evening is on Saturday, 30 May, with hospitality from 16h00, auction commencing at 18h00.

One detail that sharpens the atmosphere considerably: the event is hosted on the same weekend as the Toyota SA World Cup Qualifier. The convergence is not accidental.

For buyers from across the country who want to feel the pulse of South African sporthorse sport at its most alive, and then step directly into an auction of horses bred to compete at its highest levels, the timing is as well–considered as everything else Callaho does.

Season Première tickets, priced at R1250, are available via Quicket. The evening includes a welcome drink, charcuterie reception in the Steyn City Clubhouse, dinner in the auction courtyard, and access to both the live auction and the online bidding platform. THE PHILOSOPHY BEHIND THE FORMAT

Callaho has never been interested in volume or show for its own sake. Over three decades, the Stud has quietly built its reputation on patient, layered breeding decisions: selecting stallions not for fashion but for compatibility with specific damlines, retaining offspring that

strengthen the breeding base, and presenting horses with the kind of production consistency that signals genuine confidence in what is on offer. The 2025 Auction was that philosophy expressed as a celebration. The Season Première is the same philosophy in a more intimate register.

THE COLLECTION: AN OVERVIEW

The 2026 Season Première comprises 24 lots in total: sixteen sporthorses and eight broodmares. The sporthorse division spans showjumping, dressage and eventing candidates, with the majority offering primary jumping utility. The broodmare lots are exceptional in their depth, several carrying the bloodlines from which Callaho's greatest sporthorse successes have already flowed, and offered in foal to some of the Stud's most trusted stallions.

The dominant sire lines across the sporthorse lots are Callaho's Larison and Callaho's Lissabon, with Callaho Chupalight and Callaho Lord Luzius providing the more recently established bloodlines. All horses have undergone a comprehensive veterinary assessment, including two sets of radiographs interpreted by equine specialist Dr Roy Gottschalk, with full records available to buyers prior to the sale.

THE BLOODLINES SHAPING THIS COLLECTION

Before arriving at the individual horses, it is worth stepping back to look at what the 2026 Season Première collection says as a whole about Callaho's current thinking.

The most striking feature is the prominence of Larison. Six of the sporthorse lots are by this stallion, evidence of a sire the stud has come to rely on for his pronounced stamp of scope, elasticity, and the kind of rideability that makes young horses genuinely enjoyable to produce. Callaho's Lissabon, recognised for the seventh consecutive year as

South Africa's number one high–performance progenitor, provides the second major thread. He appears as a sire in five sporthorse lots and runs through the damlines of several more.

Callaho Chupalight, whose progeny led the averages at the 2025 Auction and whose son topped the sale entirely, is represented here by one direct offspring, while his broader maternal family echoes across two further lots. Callaho Lord Luzius, the stallion whose career is now building serious momentum soon to be in the 1.50m classes under Ron Healy, contributes two of the most exciting mare prospects in the Collection.

Perhaps the deepest structural note across this Collection is the confidence Callaho places in its foundation damlines. The Cassina family (by Cassini I, born 1993), whose fourth dam produced Jumping World Champion Cumano, appears in multiple lots. The G–Cerise/U–Capitola line, whose third and fourth dam ancestors produced licensed stallions and 1.60m–level performers across Germany, appears in two. The Wanja Quick Star line, the Alcheme family, and the internationally

celebrated Reverdy line from France all make appearances. These are not ornamental pedigrees. They are working foundations, and the horses in this catalogue are their current expression.

SEVEN HORSES WORTH STUDYING CLOSELY

The following lots represent a cross–section selected by our team for the depth and distinctiveness of their stories. Each rewards the time spent with the catalogue.

(Larison x Con Coriano x Calando I)

Larison mare | Dark bay | 162cm (16.0hh)

Two decades and three generations of carefully considered breeding with the foundation mare Cerise have, Callaho says, ‘eventually’ produced this. Larise is the product of one of the Stud's

most deliberately crafted pairings: the scope and elasticity of Larison, applied to a dam in Callaho Concerta (by Con Coriano), who herself carries the Calando I tenacity of the G-Cerise line.

The damline story rewards serious study. G-Cerise, Larise's second dam, has produced a remarkable spread of offspring: Aristo Z (by Artos Z) became a licensed Warmblood stallion and competed at 1.60m with Jiri Hruska; Callaho Luther (Lissabon) competed at 1.50m with Tegan Bruyns; Callaho Simone (Stolzenberg) reached 1.40m with Jeanne Körber. The family's productivity extends in every direction.

Going back to the third dam, U-Capitola by Capitano (HOLST State Premium, born 1982), the record becomes almost encyclopaedic. U-Capitola produced Cevin (Calando I stallion, HOLST Licensed), Landcapitol (Landadel stallion, HOLST Licensed), and Quite

Capitol (Quidam de Revel stallion, 1.60m with Torben Köhlbrandt, HOLST Licensed), while her daughter Kapitola (Landadel, HOLST State Premium) produced RMF Bella Baloubet (Baloubet du Rouet stallion, 1.60m with William Whitaker, HOLST Licensed). The fourth dam, Folia (HOLST Premium), produced Capitol I, Capitol II and Capitol III, all licensed stallion sons by Capitano.

That Larise's dam Concerta is also on offer at this auction (Lot 21) gives buyers a rare opportunity to study the cross in the flesh. The catalogue says this pairing has ‘hit the sweet spot’. The density of achievement behind it suggests no other outcome than success.

Lot 06 Callaho Zoey Calypso

(Lord Luzius x Lissabon x Werther)

Callaho's internal jumping assessment has awarded its highest 3 PLUS-rating only two times. Callaho Zoey Calypso is the second. That is a meaningful datapoint, not as a marketing claim, but because it reflects the assessment of a

competition team comprising four 1.50m-level showjumpers whose professional evaluations underpin every star rating in this catalogue. Zdenek Muchna, part of the auction team, offered a verdict that will resonate with buyers: "I'm in love!"

Zoey Calypso is by Callaho Lord Luzius, a stallion whose own career is now gathering momentum at the bigger classes under rider Ron Healy. Lord Luzius traces through Lord Z (Lord Z) on the sire line, combined with Feine Luzie (Companiero by Colman), a pedigree that gives his progeny a combination of modern type and elastic scope. As a still-developing young stallion, his daughters from established Callaho damlines represent some of the most forward-looking investments in this collection.

Zoey Calypso's dam, Callaho Lorna Calypso, is by Lissabon out of Cremona L (Calypso II, born 1996, HANN). Cremona L produced Espoir 17 (Escudo I, 1.50m with Paulo Stewart) and Ehranerin de Letrequerce (Escudo I, 1.35m with Giulio di Renzo), as well as Callaho Benny Calypso (IDR 2* with Nicole Smith). The third dam, Windira by Werther (HANN State Premium), and fourth dam, Goldina by Graphit (HANN State Premium), extend a line of

premium Hanoverian mares producing quality sporthorses across half a century.

In the context of this collection, Zoey Calypso sits apart. She is the horse about whom Callaho's own riders ran out of restraint. The pedigree justifies the enthusiasm.

Lot 07 Callaho Lar Gavulin

(Larison x Corrado I x Lord)

Larison gelding | Bay | 163cm (16.0 ½ hh)

The most significant piece of context for understanding Callaho Lar Gavulin is his third dam's entry. Gofine, by Ramiro Z (HOLST, born 1970), is the mother of Contender, the Calypso II son licensed by both HANN and HOLST who became one of the most influential jumping

sires of his generation. The siblings and descendants of Gofine have competed at 1.60m across Europe with riders including Geir Gulliksen, Leopold van Asten and Lars Pedersen. This is a damline that has been producing toplevel horses for five decades.

HORSE AND AUCTION

Lar Gavulin's second dam, Goldkuste I (Lord, HOLST, 1992), adds further layers of extraordinary credentials. Her progeny includes Contigo 37 (Calato Z, 1.60m with Ben Maher), Connador (1.55m with Braden James), Corinessa 9 (1.60m with Ibragim Yuldashev), Ocean Quality (1.55m with Emilie Conter), and Capanos, an approved HOLST stallion who competed at 1.45m. The lineage from Gofine through Goldkuste I to Lar Gavulin's dam, Callaho Passionata H (by Corrado I, HOLST), carries a level of credential that is unusual even by European standards.

The Stud's attachment to this family is evident: of the offspring out of Passionata, a Casall ASK daughter was retained for breeding and a Con Coriano son (Contino, now competing with George Coutlis) was kept entire. Lar Gavulin is the first from this dam offered at auction, a fact that speaks to the depth of the Stud's confidence in the cross. He is described as a striking eye-catcher with exceptional rideability and a generous temperament, sporting a balanced and adjustable canter, with scope that will continue to reveal itself as his frame matures.

Lot 12 Callaho Lucky Ned Pepper

(Lissabon x Sampras x Con Coriano)

Lissabon gelding | Chestnut | 164cm (16.1hh)

Named after the outlaw gang leader of Charles Portis' True Grit, Callaho Lucky Ned Pepper is, the stud says, a horse that makes you stop and look. "Some horses stand before you as living proof that patient, common-sense breeding will always and unquestionably prevail," the catalogue reads. The pedigree makes the argument.

‘Ned’ is by Callaho's Lissabon out of Callaho Silvia (by Callaho's Sampras), whose dam is Callaho Concella (by Con Coriano), whose dam is Callaho Salsa (by Silvio I). The third dam in this sequence is Cassina (by Cassini I, born 1993), Callaho's acclaimed foundation mare. It is through Cassina that the most significant reach of this pedigree is felt.

Cassina's record includes Van Schindel's Optical (Athletico, 1.60m with Piet Raijmakers), Perpetua (Lux Z, 1.60m with Willem Greve, who herself produced Iceman, 1.60m with Braden James), Callaho Lord Cassini (1.55m with Jenna Odell), Callaho Conrado (1.50m with Rainer Körber), and Callaho Lucetto (1.50m with Paige Goetsch). The fourth dam, Weisse Dame by Caletto II (HOLST State Premium, 1984), anchors the family with further depth: her daughter Chanel II produced Cumano (Cassini I), who

won the Jumping World Championship at Aachen in 2006 with Jos Lansink. Her daughter Casita (Capitol I, 1.60m with Kamal Bahamdan) produced Zanta Z (1.60m with Benedikte Endresen).

Callaho describes Lucky Ned Pepper as the "slow, deliberate distillation of multiple outliers into one singular exemplar of the breeder's art." The pedigree and the trust Callaho has instilled in buyers over three decades suggests the confidence is more than justified.

(Larison x Lissabon x Silvio)

There is a line in the Callaho catalogue that appears only once across all twentyfour lots. It belongs to Callaho Larsura.

‘If truth be told,’ the catalogue says, ‘this mare should stay on the farm to breed.’ That a Stud offering a horse at auction would include that sentence in the lot description is an extraordinary act of transparency.

Larsura is by Larison out of Callaho Lisetta (by Callaho's Lissabon, born 2010). Her second dam is Callaho Salsa (by Silvio I), and her third dam is Cassina (by Cassini I, born 1993), placing her within the Weisse Dame/ Cassina foundation that also produced Cumano and Van Schindel's Optical (see above, and Lot 12). The convergence

of two horses, Lots 12 and 14, on the same foundation mare within one curated collection reflects the depth of confidence the stud places in this family as both a sport and a breeding resource. The two horses are in effect case studies in what the Cassina genetics produce through different sire combinations: Lissabon in Lot 12, Larison in Lot 14.

The catalogue describes Larsura as combining bravery with exceptional rideability and a beautifully soft mouth. Larison's characteristic scope is still developing. As a mare from the Cassina family, her breeding value is unambiguous. Whether she ends up on a sport programme or in a breeding shed, the Stud's own assessment suggests the buyer will be well rewarded either way.

Lot 19 Callaho Tahiti

(Callaho Toto x Bolzano x Ramiro Z)

Callaho Toto mare | Bay | 165cm (16.1hh)

Callaho Tahiti is a daughter of Callaho Toto, a son of Tolano van't Riethof.

The breeding behind Tahiti is, by Callaho's own admission, an experiment that exceeded expectations. Her dam, Callaho Bolanne, is by Bolzano du Quinze, a French AngloArab influenced sire (Quaprice Bois Margot by Quidam de Revel x Modene

AA by Ryon D'Anzex). Her second dam, Ryanne by Ramiro Z (DR PSG/Int., born 1993), competed in dressage and produced a family with a substantial international thread, including Callaho Freedom (Ferro, 1.50m with Barry Taylor), Callaho Landino (Lissabon, 1.55m with Alexandra Miszewski) and Callaho Lausanne (1.30m with Bryce McCall). The third dam, Gambe by

Gotthard (HANN, born 1975), produced Rex Rebel, a licensed HANN stallion, and grounds the line in half a century of German breeding.

bravery and beautifully tuned rideability, a union that simply never manifests in the same horse.’ The catalogue asks, only half in jest: ‘Witchery... or simply Callaho Breeding Magic?’ Given what this family has produced at its best and the video footage of Tahiti, the answer

Lot 22 Callaho Helsinki

(Chupalight x Cacao Courcelle x Robin II Z)

In 2025, Callaho Chupalight's progeny accounted for the highest average prices of any sire in the sale, with Callaho Hang Ten topping the entire auction at R2.2 million. The obvious question for 2026 was whether the stud would put a Chupalight horse forward, and if so, what it would look like.

Callaho Helsinki is the answer. His sire, Callaho Chupalight, has recently risen to compete at 1.50m level, claiming a Grand Prix, a World Cup Qualifier, and the President's Cup outright. Helsinki, the catalogue says, carries ‘that light, uphill way of going, jumping with the same effortless scope as his father.’ He is still maturing into

his tall frame, but the trajectory is unmistakeable.

Helsinki's dam, Callaho's Ally du Reverdy (by Cacao Courcelle, 2010), is also the second dam of Callaho Lazzaro (Lot 3), who is the maternal brother to last year's R1.1 million-lot Callaho Farnucci. The Reverdy family from the French Selle Français tradition undoubtedly produces exceptional horses. The family's 1.60m anchor,

Venise du Reverdy (Quidam de Revel, 1.60m with Samuel Hutton), whose daughter Didja de Mazure competed at 1.45m with Vincent Balleux, demonstrates the consistent level this line produces at its peak.

For buyers who watched the Chupalight story unfold in 2025 and are looking for the next chapter, Helsinki is the most direct expression of that legacy in this collection.

THE WIDER COLLECTION: SPORTHORSES

Beyond the seven featured lots, the sporthorse section of the 2026 Season Première is rich with additional stories.

Callaho Lazzaro (Lot 3), the chestnut Lissabon gelding mentioned above as the maternal brother to last year's Callaho Farnucci (R1.1 million), is described as carrying the same superlative jumping ability and that ‘solidly sensible headboy character’ that will reinforce his potential as his body matures.

Callaho Sienna Calypso (Lot 2), a compact chestnut mare by the late Callaho Sampras out of Callaho Tallulah Calypso (a Tolano van't Riethof daughter and therefore from the same Tolano line as Callaho Toto), carries the celebrated Cremona L damline, shared with Zoey Calypso at Lot 6. That the same grandmother's family produces both a 3 PLUS-rated mare and a second highly regarded mare in the same collection speaks to the depth of this blood.

Callaho Larocco (Lot 8), a bright bay Larison gelding, is described by the team as ‘don't think twice, think big’: a dashingly handsome horse with natural balance, composure and Larison's characteristic scope held quietly in reserve. His damline traces back through a line of HANN State Premium mares.

Callaho Lazuli (Lot 11), a distinctively marked bay Lissabon gelding with a notable blue eye, is something of a departure from the standard jumper profile. The catalogue describes him as floating through his paces with a powerful canter and identifies him as a horse capable of excellence in either showjumping or dressage. For a skilled rider with patience

and feel, the team says this is ‘a virtuoso capable of a tour-de-force performance.’

Callaho Zapphire (Lot 13), a bay Lord Luzius mare, carries a fascinating bloodline note. She is a daughter of Callaho I'm D'Lady (by I'm Special De Muze), the maternal sister of Callaho Chupalight himself, both being daughters of Holla I. The catalogue notes that Holla I, together with her daughters alone, has produced no fewer than seven international 1.60m and 1.50m jumpers. Zapphire is thus both a daughter of Lord Luzius and a close relative of Chupalight through their shared dam, a combination the stud describes as a ‘genetic gem.’

Callaho Larson (Lot 17), a bay Larison gelding, is described as carrying ‘a thoughtful old soul disposition,’ approaching every fence with composed honesty and consistent technique. He is from the Zidria damline, which has produced Callaho Confidor (1.50m with Francesca Sanne) and Callaho Le Padre (Lissabon, 1.50m with Zdenek Muchna).

Callaho Lariccio (Lot 18), a bay Larison gelding standing at a remarkable 17.1hh, is the collection's most explicit dressage prospect. Described as a ‘Big Friendly Giant,’ he is identified by the team as a horse whose tall frame and floating, ground-covering trot make him a natural for the arena. His dam is Callaho Bijou (by Benicio), from the De Niro/Weltmeyer damline, a Warmblood dressage pedigree that suits the horse he is clearly becoming.

Callaho Lumière (Lot 23), a bright bay Lissabon mare out of a Larison dam (Callaho Laricia), is the collection's most elegant cross of the two dominant sire lines, bringing together Lissabon's intelligence and rideability with the pace and scope of the Larison dam. The catalogue calls her ‘the Belle of the Ball,’ noting that not only does she turn heads, she can ‘do it all.’

Callaho Legolas (Lot 24), a bay Lissabon gelding, closes the collection as its most emotionally significant lot. He is the final foal of Callaho Alcheme, described without equivocation as the Stud's most precious foundation mare, to be offered at Auction. Nine of the ten mares descended from Alcheme remain in Callaho's own breeding programme. The tenth is this gelding. No further persuasion is required, and the catalogue, characteristically, offers none.

THE BROODMARE LOTS

The eight broodmares in the 2026 Season Première are not simply an appendage to the sporthorse lots. They are, in several cases, among the most significant offerings in the entire Auction, representing access to bloodlines that Callaho has spent decades building and from which many of its greatest sporthorse results have already come.

Callaho Sable Rose (Lot 4) is a chestnut Calvados mare offered in foal to Victory For Ever. Her damline is exceptional: her third dam, Crissie P by Contender (HANN Premium), produced Cortney Cox 2 (Carlo, 1.70m with Pius Schwizer and

MECKL Licensed), and the family also produced Callaho Lord Cris (Lord Z, winner of the Heartland World Cup Qualifier with George Coutlis). She has already produced three foals, including a Corinth colt in 2025.

Callaho Conplicity (Lot 5) is a dark bay Con Coriano mare offered in foal to Innovation X, the stud's threequarter Thoroughbred refiner. She is the full sister to Callaho Consuri, the first Callaho-bred mare to secure a 1.50m Grand Prix victory. Her dam, Simplicity (by Simply), is also the dam of two dressage horses who competed at PSG/Inter 1 level. Her own produce already includes horses competing up to 1.30m.

Callaho Constanza (Lot 9) is a Con Coriano mare offered in foal to Callaho's Corinth. She is the sister to the celebrated Liza Minelli (Fortinbras), who was the 2005 Lanaken five-year-old World Champion before going on to 1.60m success with Yves Houtackers, and the sister to Callaho Vivaldi (Valentino, 1.50m with Graham Winn), now a household name in South African showjumping.

Callaho Levada (Lot 10) is a Lissabon daughter of the Wanja Quick Star x Jalisco B damline, offered in foal to Corinth. This damline has produced Siec Royal Star (Quick Star, 1.60m with Cameron Hanley), Quick Silver B Z (1.50m with Rölf Göran-Bengtsson)

and Cairo W (Lord Z, 1.50m with Yuval Kissilevich). Her own 2021 Chupalight filly, which Callaho is retaining, is described as the new flagbearer of this line.

Callaho Contaska (Lot 15) is a Con Coriano mare offered in foal to Equinox de Chalusse. From the Quitaska damline (HANN State Premium, by Quidam's Rubin), the mare who was the source of Callaho Con Quito (1.50m with Jan Kleynhans), Callaho Liberia (1.50m with Helen Criticos) and Callaho Fortaska (1.45m with Shanley Marshall). Contaska’s 2017 son Callaho Eastwood (Equinox de Chalusse) and 2015 son Callaho Voleur (Victory For Ever) are already competing.

Callaho Jo Malone (Lot 16) is a grey Joe Cool mare offered in foal to Victory For Ever. She reincarnates Gerrie du Toit’s famous South African TB line of Mooi Nooi, foundational to much of the country's early Warmblood breeding. Through the Alzu family this line produced Alzu Lombard (Landego, 1.60m with Anja Moller), Alzu Quinsey (1.50m with Ashlee Healy) Alzu Ovation (1.50m with AJ Rademacher) and Alzu Obligation (1.50m with Michelle Hobbs). It is a genuinely nostalgic South African bloodline, here updated by Callaho breeding for modern sporthorse competition.

Callaho Lissina (Lot 20) is a grey Lissabon mare offered in foal to Callaho's Corinth, directly from the Cassina/Weisse Dame foundation. She is the full sister to Callaho Lucetto (Lissabon), winner of the 2025 1.40m Mini Derby with Paige Goetsch and now competing with aplomb in the 1.50m division. She is also the dam of Callaho Corleone, a Corinth son described as heading for the 1.50m classes under Chatan Hendriks. The catalogue calls her ‘pure gold.’ Given what Cassina has consistently produced, that description is very much grounded.

Callaho Concerta (Lot 21) closes the broodmare section and opens a circle: she is the dam of Lot 1, Callaho Larise, and is offered in foal to Larison once more. As a young mare under saddle she displayed the Holstein canter and sharp technique of her family; as a broodmare she

has already produced five foals, with the most recent offspring of the Larison cross providing the proof of concept the catalogue claims. Both dam and daughter are available at this auction, a rare opportunity for buyers interested in acquiring the full story.

HOW TO BE PART OF IT
