Howe Community Library updates policies regarding adult books

The Howe Community Library sought and obtained approval from both the Howe ISD Board of Trustees and the Howe City Council last week for a change in how students can check out certain books. Currently children through eighth grade have been restricted, unless permission from parent, to check out books from the young adult or the adult section Based on some experiences had by the library, they felt it was necessary to recommend to strike the adult section

Apparently, students who had permission to check out books from the adult section were then taking them to school and sharing the content with students who did not have the same permissions The library took the necessary steps to curb that issue

The policy change read, "A change in the policy of the Howe Community Library as it relates to items in the library grouped by age and the authority to check-out those items is being considered. Those parties interested in reviewing the entire policy can contact the Librarian at the Howe Community Library"

New roof for Summit Gardens

FBC Howe had huge turnout for VBS

It wasn't an easy job by any means

The slope of the 124-year-old former First Christian Church building had workers strapping themselves to nearby trees and telephone poles for safety But the roof that had been missing many shingles due to extensive weather damage over the years, met the criteria to be fully replaced Local contractors, T&R Roofing won the bid for the job and started on Thursday morning The city-owned building was completed on Saturday

Other city buildings getting new roofs are the police station and city hall All will have the same matching shingle color as the the old church, now named Summit Gardens

The church is scheduled to open in November should all things go well

This past Monday thru Friday, 9 amnoon, FBC Howe hosted their annual Vacation Bible School. There were around 190 present every day at the event The children had opportunity to go to bible story, music, recreation, missions, crafts, and snacks each day The children raised $300 to be donated towards school supplies for Howe ISD children in need as they begin the school year

This event kicked off the FBC Howe children’s ministries events for the summer that are held every Wednesday morning
