HOWE’S HAPPENINGS Victory Independent Publishing
Thanksgiving is almost here! Has anyone else noticed what seems to be an increase in Christmas lights on houses prior to Thanksgiving, this year? Don’t get me wrong, I’m a sucker for driving around looking at Christmas lights while eating holiday candy/cookies, drinking hot chocolate, the whole deal, but it just seems early, is all I’m saying. With Thanksgiving comes Black Friday and the official kickoff of Christmas shopping. Prior to your shopping, please consider snagging an Angel off of the Bulldog tree to get items for this year! The trees are already up at all 4 schools with lists ready to shop for.
Just a fair warning, similar to last year, I will be posting something about the Angel Tree probably every week until the deadline. Last year, it came very close to the children not all getting picked off of the tree. Some children would have been left with little to nothing on Christmas morning. If you have never gotten involved in the Angel tree I would encourage you to just go take a look at the lists. Sometimes there is a toy or two, but often I see needs like shoes, a coat, socks, underwear, a sweatshirt, etc. Perhaps instead of getting people in your life their 10th sweatshirt or pair of shoes, we could all consider instead giving a child what might be their only pair of shoes or their only coat.

This Tuesday, the City Council gathered for their monthly scheduled meeting at Summit Gardens. To begin, Mayor Karla McDonald shared her “Mayor Brag Moment” regarding the Harvey Blessing Build Project. McDonald gave a brief overview of the situation that led to the build, which has been covered previously in this publication, and added, “Over the next nine months, something
beautiful happened: individuals, contractors, businesses, and neighbors, from every corner of our community gave their time, their skills, their resources, and their hearts. Because of the incredible generosity and love poured into this project, veteran Harvey Morris walked into his brand-new home on Friday, November 14, 2025. The project manager asked that I wait until the December or January council meeting to formally recognize everyone involved so that as many contributors as
possible could be present. I fully respect this request, but I couldn't wait to express how proud and grateful I am for this community. This project is more than a home- It is a testament to the compassionate unity, and spirit that define Howe, we truly are the heart of North Texas.”

An update was given that the concrete slab was poured last Friday at the Summit Hill Elementary construction project. The Fall Library Book Order was approved, and the entire book list is available on the Howe ISD website. The 2026 Summer Meal Program was
decided to be exempt this year due to construction and other issues making it difficult for students to reach the school. However, due to the hazardous traffic conditions in Howe near the schools, an overall decision was made to expand the bus routes. The following wordage was used, “The Board of Trustees of the Howe Independent School District has determined that a hazardous condition exists because (Continued on Page 8)
