HOWE’S HAPPENINGS Victory Independent Publishing
Congratulations to the High School Band! We will have an in depth article next week about details of the competition. I was never in band and don’t understand much about it but I did gain appreciation this week after briefly being able to attend their last rehearsal. There was so much preparation, extreme attention to detail, discipline and talent involved. I realized I had previously viewed band similar to how many people view running. As an outsider, it looks like a simple thing, but as someone who has performed in it and coached it, I can attest that people don’t know a drop in the bucket of all it entails and asks of an athlete. I was humbled seeing that band is the same way. What an amazing, collaborative effort! I am excited to learn more and bring you all more information about this year’s competitions next week! I have never seen a community come together to help someone in the way that this community showed up for Mr. Morris. I realize many local news outlets have covered the story, but I feel what sets us apart here at this publication is that we have no limitations of speaking about people’s faith. In this case, that was a big part of the story for Mr. Morris and I was thankful to get to sit and speak with him as his home is almost finished. This project is what it looks like to be the “hands and feet” of Jesus, way to go Howe!

“Harvey Blessing Build” Reaches Completion Ashley Husbands This week it was a pleasure to sit down with Mr. Harvey Morris and Project Manager Amy Gibbs, as his new home reaches completion this Friday. The attitude of the local veteran was overwhelmingly thankful and gracious to the local community and those outside the community who came together to build his home.
“It is a well-built house, it really is a lot better than I was expecting,” said Morris. He spoke of the process of how the community project originally began with his need for a heater last winter and turned into a whole stream of blessings in his life. “The one thing I found out, I’ve got a lot more people in this town that think more about me than I thought. To be honest, I didn’t think an-
yone gave a rip if I was around or not, and that is just as honest as I can make it. To see the outpouring of people going out of their way, is just amazing (…) I’ve never been one to ask anybody for help, I figured out my own way to do it. This was bigger than I was, so I guess the Good Lord said “Okay big boy, I’m going to teach you something (…) You know (Continued on Page 11)

The Howe ISD Board of Trustees is pleased to announce that Ritchie Bowling was named Lone Finalist at a special board meeting last night. Mr. Bowling has served as the superintendent of Maypearl ISD for the past 10 years. Prior to that, he worked for 10 years in Howe as Elementary Principal, Middle School Principal, and Assistant Superintendent. As required by law, the district must wait 21 days before officially hiring Mr. Bowling, but it in-
tends to do that at a special meeting on December 2. Mr. Bowling will bring with him a wealth of knowledge and experience as a proven leader, and his understanding of the Howe community and culture should make for a seamless transition. Howe ISD is happy to welcome Mr. Bowling and his family - wife Cari and children Scarlett, Harper and Lincoln back to Howe and looks forward to his leadership at HISD.
