HOWE’S HAPPENINGS Victory Independent Publishing

In the position I am in, I get a unique opportunity to regularly interact with the people who keep this town running. I can’t speak for all cities, but I can say that the City of Howe and those involved in it, changed my views drastically to see what is possible in a town when people actually care. A while back, I was working a side gig that led to me being at one of our local gas stations late at night often. My response would have normally been to feel very guarded on “high alert”. Instead, I saw that almost nightly one of our police officers was sitting watching the area in that parking lot. Finally, one night I approached the officer and thanked him for sitting there- his response was classic– he just took it as his job to be there and didn’t need a thank you.

That’s how it goes- we often don’t see what these people do until we need them. We can be quick to complain but remember, your town is safe because of who is there, night after night like that officer was for me in that parking lot. When your house is on fire or you need medical care- caring, highly trained people will be there. The City Government takes care of countless things the average person doesn’t even consider. I watch, month after month, as the City Departments of Howe give reports on great progress and money used appropriately to benefit the citizens and town safety. When citizens have an issue they offer you time to speak at the meetings and hear you. This is a great place with great people, maybe we can all spend more time being thankful for what we have and thanking those around us for what they do. “Police Night Out” for the First Time in Over a Decade Ashley Husbands This last Tuesday, October 7th, the Howe Police Department hosted National Night Out for the first time in over a decade. The event had support in getting the word out from the City and the local Fire Department. The Mayor and many council members were in attendance, including some who brought their families to the event. Howe Police Chief Sullivan said, “It was an honor to meet Howe citizens and spend time with our youth. Our children are our future, we must invest in them to have a promising future. The Howe Police Department is committed to programs that improve the relationships between the police and our citizens.
