Song of the Week: “School Days” Will D. Cobb and Gus Edwards The above song came out in 1907– but I was hearing my dad sing it at the beginning of every school year still in the 90’s. I didn’t even know it was an “actual song” until today when I looked up the lyrics I could still remember. over 20 years later. Apparently, he added a little flair to it and left a verse out– but it still brings a smile to my face when I think of it. On Page 3 this week, we have an article submitted by a local father, who now has adult children. He expresses how the Howe School District and events his son participated in shaped the future of his son’s passions and profession as an adult. I hope we can all remember what an amazing impact we can have supporting children in their passions. Many of us at some point were inspired by teachers, coaches, etc. and it grew us into the individuals we are today. There is encouragement on a “large scale” that impacts children’s future professions– but equally as important in my opinion are the “little things” children's support systems share. Maybe you aren’t impacting your child’s future profession yourself with what you do today, but in 25 years from now they might be sitting doing their job and be smiling ear to ear remembering a little song you sang and know that they were loved by you. Harvey’s Blessing Build Project Progress Ashley Husbands This week, the Harvey Morris House Project is continuing on, with projections for completion in early to midNovember.
Currently, the framing package is wrapping up and windows are being installed. Next week, the plumbing will be underway, as well as HVAC and wiring/ductwork. Project manager, Amy Gibbs, stated “we got a late start due to Mother Nature and the weather, but we are cranking out the phases, now! We have over 40 professional companies that are contributing to this project!” Things still needed for the project include volunteers for painting in early-mid September, paint to be donated in the light greys or neutrals, new or near new appliances such as, electric oven range, dishwasher
Harvey Morris House Project Progress and French door refrigerator- laundry appliances have already been donated. Additionally, meals for the volunteers would
be greatly appreciated, Abby’s Restaurant has been servicing complementary burgers to the crews, so far. Lastly, a

Thank you to all volunteers and donors for this project!
Community Howe Bulldogs Pep Rally Draws Near Ashley Husbands This year the community pep rally will be held August 23rd from 6-9 p.m. at Bulldog Stadium. The Howe Athletic Booster Club has arranged vendors for the event, including H20 Tea and The Sugar Bar Company Shaved Ice. This event highlights not only the High School football team but all male and female athletes of all sports in both Middle and High School. The Howe Athletic Booster Club shared a Facebook post this week explaining a new admissions process they are trying out this year: “Gamedays are hectic and stressful. Coaches are putting final puzzle pieces in place. Athletes are juggling
schoolwork and pregame prep. Parents are rushing to get 8-10 hours of work done in 6 so they can be at the game at 4:30. Its crazy and then you get a text at 4:05 as you’re pulling into the stadium…”can you get me food?” We’ve all gotten it. We’re gonna try something new this year. We’ve never charged “admission” to the community pep rally. We’re gonna get some help feeding the dogs and filling the dog bowl. We will accept donations at the community pep rally for shelf stable, grab and go snacks that the coaches can keep with them as the kids get ready or they are on the bus, etc. Bring an “admission” item to the pep rally and drop it off at the doghouse trailer.” More updates to be shared in a future article.
