Last week, we said there would be an article on how our taxes work in Grayson County. It is moved to next week’s publication due to recent events taking precedence. Welcome Back to American History Class! Ashley Husbands Happy Independence Day, this week! In celebration of the holiday, we are going to do a history recap on how this holiday originated, for those of us who have lived a while since 7th grade American History class. These historical facts were gathered from a variety of sources, but mainly from History.com. American Independence Day originates back from the Revolutionary War. Prior to the Revolutionary War, for over a decade British authorities and colonists had rising tension between them. The French and Indian War, also known as the Seven Years’ War lasted from 1756-1763, and resulted in more territories under British rule. With expanding British rule came increased taxes, including the Stamp Act of 1765, the Townshend Acts of 1767 and the Tea Act of 1773, to name a few. Increased taxes led to heated protests from colonists who resented the lack of representation they had in Parliament. In 1770, the colonists resisted in a mob form, leading to The Boston Massacre- in which British soldiers open fired on colonists, killing 5 men. In 1773,
