Enjoy! The first official day of Summer this year is this Friday, June 20th. It is also the same day as the summer solstice, marking the longest day of the year in the Northern Hemisphere. It appears the weather will be acting according to the season the rest of this week– it is starting to heat up! As we all know, the spring rain followed by the summer heat produces the onslaught of mosquitos! Thank you to the City of Howe for sending out mosquito fogging from 8-10 p.m. next Wednesday, June 25th!
Ed Whitfield Unanimously Voted In to Replace Vacated City Council Seat Ashley Husbands This month’s City Council and P&Z Meetings were eventful with new leadership appointed in each. We also were given a perfect example this month of why community in-
volvement is important and how the current City Council responds to citizen concerns. To begin the meeting, during the citizen comment opportunity, local citizen Phillip Hardwick voiced his concerns over
the water boil notice. He expressed that his family is fairly new to town and did not know about Code Red until Monday of this week. His family was drinking the water during the boil notice, unknowing of any issues. Hardwick suggested that there

be an additional way of notification by way of the City placing signs at frequently traveled areas in town when there is a boil notice. Both the Mayor and City Administrator thanked him for his suggestion and stated they would move for-

Last Friday afternoon, the water conversion for the West side of Howe was completed. City Administrator, Monte Walker released a statement on the City website at the time that informed of several events, including: “All wells are now fully functioning together with the same water source blend of groundwater and surface water. In the future, this will
greatly eliminate the outages that have experienced in certain areas over the past several months. (…) The water system is now functioning as intended with minimal discoloration; however, the mix of chlorine and chloramine can cause a yellow tint at times which is not pretty, but also not harmful for consumption.
