HOWE’S HAPPENINGS Song of the Week “My Little Girl” Tim McGraw

This week’s “song of the week” was chosen due to the front page article relating to the children in school and the new motherhood column out, as of this week on page 16. If you want to get more involved politically and believe conservatively, the two main groups in Grayson County that I know of are the Texoma Patriots and the Grayson County Conservatives. Controversial School Bill Leads to a “Call to Action” by Local Conservative Group Joy Roberts of the Grayson County Conservatives The Grayson County Conservatives are spearheading an open letter gaining statewide conservative backing to oppose Texas House Bill 3 (the companion to Senate Bill 2)—the so-called "school choice" bills. It has already garnered nearly 2,000 signatures, spanning 62 pages from conservatives across the state. The conservative message has attracted signatures from over 100 prominent leaders, including Republican GOP County Chairs, Precinct Chairs, Mayors, City Councilmen, Texas GOP Delegates, grassroots leaders and more. Eight large homeschool co-ops, representing over 7,000 homeschool families statewide, have also signed. The full letter, published below, reveals why this conservative coalition views these "school choice" bills, HB3 (the companion to SB2), as a threat to private education and conservative values— readers who agree can add their signatures at https:// graysoncountyconservatives.com/hb3/. While proponents argue this increases educational freedom, we believe it introduces government control over private education, contradicting conservative values and the principles of the Republican Party of Texas. A threat to private education looms: Once taxpayer money is involved, it is inevitable that leftists will attempt to encroach upon private schools and homeschools. Public schools did

not decline overnight— it was a gradual deterioration. We cannot rely on politicians alone to safeguard the future of private education, as shifting political landscapes and vague legislative language may leave it vulnerable to exploitation by those who do not prioritize the best interests of the electorate. Government overreach erodes educational autonomy: HB3 contradicts RPT Plank 84, which states that education funding should follow the student with "no strings attached." However, HB3 intro-

duces a structure where taxpayer dollars are routed through the Comptroller’s Office and directed to pre-approved vendors rather than families, creating an administrative mechanism that allows for future government oversight. History has shown that once government funding enters private education, regulations often follow. In states like Indiana and Florida, similar school choice programs initially promised autonomy but later introduced standardized testing requirements and curriculum mandates for participating private (Continued on Page 12)
