HOWE’S HAPPENINGS Victory Independent Publishing

Obviously, we are excited at the paper this week for Granny Basketball! I have been hearing about this for years and there is finally a local tournament I can attend! Hopefully we will get some fun pictures to share next week. I absolutely love the idea of lifetime athleticism, especially for female sports!

Thank you to those who submitted more questions for the School Board elections this week. I am attempting to set the framework now for all future elections and how we will handle them at this publication. Newspapers, in my opinion, are meant to create open communication, transparency, and ask tough questions in communities. Local politicians, school boards, etc. are who make our major decisions in this community, and I feel we deserve to ask questions. These positions “work for us”- and we can’t forget that. We deserve to ask questions and we deserve answers if they expect votes. Let’s use this last week to polish up our questions, and feel free to contact us with more questions, concerns, input, etc. Again this week, there are a few “repeated items” in case you missed them last week. We also do not have new jobs on the job board this week. We did not receive any job opportunities again, but the contact for that has been emailed. We hope to have more current hiring jobs next week. Have a great week, Howe TX! EDITOR’S NOTE—This column is reserved as an editorial column and may not necessarily reflect

One More Week to Submit School Board Election Questions Ashley Husbands Last week, we asked the community to submit additional questions to ask Howe’s School Board Election Candidates, for this election. Thankfully, we were sent many more questions this week. The purpose of this article is to show you all every question submitted to the newspaper, thus far. In doing so, we hope it will inspire a last round of questions, unique to what we have to use at this point. At this point, we have not chosen which questions we will use. The community is welcome to email the newspaper at ashley@howeenterprise.co m with suggestions and reasonings for certain questions being used or not. We view this as a collaborative effort, but as stated in previous articles, the final decision is the editor’s due to legalities, etc. The following are the questions submitted by the community at this point: “What are your feelings about gender ideology and how it is handled in schools?” “Why do you feel you are the most qualified to be on the school board?” “What are your qualifications/experience?” “What ideas do you have to help improve Howe ISD?” “What has been your involvement with the school/kids?” “Why are you running for school board?”

“Why are you pursuing a seat on the Howe ISD Board?” “Do you or have you held any certifications through the TEA? If so, when was the last time you were in a classroom teaching?” “Aside from being certified through the TEA, what education, training and experience do you have that will help you excel if voted into this role?” “ Briefly describe your definition of a school board, and the roles of the board members.” “What do you feel is the greatest issue facing our school district and what is your plan for addressing that issue?” “What are your ideas for balancing Howe’s small town feel and the growing student population?” And finally, “I would like to know a plan for increasing transparency in School Board proceedings. According to the Texas Open Meetings Act, our School Board is required to post their upcoming agendas at least 3 business days in advance of the meeting. As you can see here, they have still not posted the meeting agenda for the March 2026 meeting, which took place this past Monday. How can concerned citizens be involved or request to make public comment if the agendas are not posted in accordance with the law? Last week's newspaper an (Continued on Page 8)

City Council Tackles Many Big Changes at Recent Meeting Ashley Husbands This week, the City Council met with members Billie Ingram, Ricky Price, and Ed Whitfield for both the Planning and Zoning Meeting and the City Council Meeting. The Planning and Zoning Meeting was held using the City Council members present, and denied both items brought to them. The exchange is extensive between the Planning and Zoning Committee and those bringing proposed variances and can be found in the first 25 minutes of the live stream video. The City Council Meeting began with a community concern from a citizen relating to a new neighbor and was heard by the Council. Mayor

McDonald announced that The City found a sale offer for playground equipment that will soon be added to Reed Park. The Economic Development Committee and The City are partnering together to split the bill for the new playground equipment. The Mayor Brag Moment this month included recognition from a resident, Mr. Blake Beeson, who wrote, “I just wanted to send over a quick thank you to the City of Howe Public Works Department for working all night long through the thunderstorm and rain to restore water services to our house. We were the only service affected, but they treated us like we were just as important as if the rest of the whole city had lost water. We

have been a citizen of Howe for about four years now, and we're loving it here. Please send Public Works crew a big thank you on behalf of myself, my wife and our two young children. We are incredibly grateful this morning.” McDonald stated, “I just want to say how proud we are of our Public Works. We're always going above and beyond to take care of our citizens and our community. So let's give them a big hand.” Next, the Howe Police Department was officially recognized for their completion of Accreditation status by Steve Dye of the Texas Police Chief’s Association. Dye stated, “It is my honor to be here to present this award. Many of you (Continued on Page 12)
