HOWE’S HAPPENINGS Song of the Week: Man in the Mirror Michael Jackson I’ve never heard of anything a community has done that I am more proud of than this project with Mr. Morris here in Howe. I had seen a few things on Facebook but did not realize the extent of it until recently, and I will continue to share it with you as I know more. Mr. Morris didn’t ask for this help, and he is humbled by the help he has received. I hope we can all remember that at any time we could all find ourselves or our loved ones in situations such as this. What a wonderful opportunity to show the love this community has for its’ own. Let’s do it! EDITOR’S NOTE—This column is reserved as an editorial column and may not necessarily reflect the policy of this publication.

Local Veteran House Building Project Needs Your Help! Ashley Husbands Amy Gibbs A local citizen’s situation, is giving us all an opportunity to come together and help one of our own. Local businesses, citizens and the local American Legion are all stepping up to help someone in a difficult situation any of us could find ourselves or someone we love in. Please consider donating through the various avenues to help. Here is a bit of information provided from Amy Gibbs regarding the situation:
“Mr. Harvey Morris is an 80 year old veteran who served 6 years in the military. He lives in Howe in a house that has recently been labeled condemned and scheduled for tear down due to it being unsafe to live in. He is the sole caregiver of his adult age, special needs son. Mr. Morris' only source of income is social security. The community has come together with American Legion in Van Alstyne and are fundraising/ volunteering to build him a new house. The project is being led by Chris and Amy Gibbs, True Measure Inc, a local home builder. Many community business leaders are volunteering their time and donating as many supplies as possible for this project. What is missing because of its higher cost is the lumber/siding package and the windows. We will need around $25,000 if eve-
ry piece has to be purchased. We hope to get big box stores to contribute some of the packages
to offset the total amount to be purchased. All charitable donations can receive a tax letter
