HOWE’S HAPPENINGS Victory Independent Publishing
A story was brought to my attention last week regarding a road and the clarification of why it has not been taken care of. I am currently working on that, I was unable to meet with Josh Marr on the expected day but will soon. Thank you for bringing that to my attention. Howe is all of our town and I don’t know many of the issues we have to ask about them. I appreciate your help making this paper the tool it can be for change in our community. In other news, I have only received one email with questions for the School Board Race right now. I would love to have great questions. I see you all asking questions on Facebook and it doesn’t seem you are getting your answers. Or at least not where we can all benefit. Will you please send me more to work with? I can only come up with so much on my own– I don’t have children, I don’t know what goes on inside the schools outside of what I hear. You all know, your children know. What should we be asking? I don’t know, I hope y’all care enough to reach out to me to help me ask them things.
Forgive us for the lacking front page this week, it looks like there is a lot of space left but I think what we did have is fairly decent quality. Also, there are no new jobs posted in the classifieds, as we did not receive any again this week. It has been a beautiful week so far, I hope it continues. Have a wonderful week, Howe, TX! Upcoming Eventful City Council Meeting Information from the City Ashley Husbands As promised, we (the owner/editor) is going to let all of you know how I have decided to handle elections in The Howe Enterprise moving forward and why. In my experience, it seems media can get corrupted by advertisements. To truly be honest, we have to be willing to lose any and all advertisement money and continue on, in my opinion. So, we will not be taking political money. We will offer an opportunity for candidates to speak equally. Hopefully all of you will help
with questions to ask. So far, I asked you all for questions and only one person in the entire community has sent me any questions. I am attempting to give your voices a platform, but you have to reach out to me to do it. I won’t be telling names of who asked things- the anonymity is yours and the head on the “chopping block”, or body “at the stake” is mine. I love this role, let me play it for you. Let’s ask some tough questions and get somewhere. Can we get rid of the corruption and greed around here? I think we can! Will you help me?
Ashley Husbands I will attempt, despite my at times messy personal life, to keep a good timeline for elections. I will give time to formulate questions and ask them in time to think about what the candidates have said in response before voting. If we can give them multiple rounds, great, or maybe sometimes we only get one shot for a “debate”. What can we do with this platform? Let’s find out together! Please, help me. Thanks, Ashley Husbands
The Agenda for the next City Council meeting was recently posted. The agenda is posted in the City of Howe section of the publication this week. The meeting is to be held March 17th. In reviewing the agenda I asked Monte Walker, City Administrator to clarify the following items on the agenda and he responded: Action Items numbers: 4, 5, 6, 8 and 9. The following is his exact response to me. It may be disorganized, forgive us both – I am just trying to bring you verbatim information and learning to do that in a good “flow” is difficult sometimes. “4- Pre-Development and Professional Services Agreement with The Cherukuru Investments at Howe LLC. This allows us to enter into negotiations with this development company. This agreement gives them access to our City Attorney and City Engineer.
- Discuss, consider, and act upon creating a 4way stop intersection at W. Haning St. and Western Hills Drive. The Mayor has received complaints from residents of The Station apartments on west Haning Street near the Police Department about high speeds through that area. After discussing with Chief Sullivan and the Mayor, we feel that it is best to make the intersection of West Haning St. and Western Hills Dr. an all-way stop. The initiation of the traffic lights at Haning and the service roads will also help. When looking at this area, we discovered that the current 30 MPH level is too high for that area as well as the Western Hills residential area. After discussions, we concluded that the MPH rate should be25 from the service road through Western Hills and Swanner to Hall Cemetery Road. Chief Sullivan has requested to place “Kids at Play” near the Reed Park area and other necessary safety signs in that same area listed in Action item 6. (Continued on Page 8)
