HOWE’S HAPPENINGS Victory Independent Publishing

All of you, including myself, who wished for the winter weather– well we got it, didn’t we!? I am normally one of those crazies that goes out as much as possible to do donuts in parking lots, drive around “inspecting damage”, taking pictures, etc.– My dad was a tow truck driver most of my life and some of my best memories growing up were being allowed to go out all night dragging cars out of the ice with him. He made sure I knew from a young age how to drive in ice. But this storm even did me in– I got trapped where I parked since Friday, (thankfully not under a collapsed carport). So, it has been quite uneventful on this end. Check out the recipes section for a good Chicken and Dumplings Recipe I tried this week, along with our wonderful columnists’articles, which they continued to send in despite the storm. Be careful out on the roads, email us with any damage pictures, snow pictures, etc. you would like to have a chance to be shared in the paper next week! Thank you to everyone who shared snow pictures this week. Have a great week, Howe, Texas! EDITOR’S NOTE—This column is reserved as an editorial column and may not necessarily reflect

Icy Roads Continue to Make Driving Conditions Hazardous Ashley Husbands Last Friday, a winter storm rolled in that is still causing major driving issues up to today. At this time, Howe ISD has been closed all week, along with most businesses in town. Yesterday, the ice began to melt but has refrozen overnight, causing more issues. As of Thursday morning at 5:30 a.m., it appears the dangerous driving conditions have not improved. Currently, a large wreck involving multiple semi-trucks has Highway 75 at a standstill both North and Southbound for miles. The wreck occurred at around midnight and now almost 6 hours later the cleanup and resulting traffic are still compiling. Throughout the day yesterday, reports poured in of people sliding off the road into ditches, etc. all day. We will see what the week-

end brings as temperatures are expected to rise to 44 degrees today but not get above freezing again on Saturday. Several businesses throughout the county and a few in Howe have chosen to open in the last several days, when they have been able. Please consider small businesses when you all make it back “out and about”. Most small businesses will have lost many days of work and will appreciate extra customers! We would like to run a special at The Howe Enterprise this week if anyone wants to take us up on it. This week local “Facebook Ads” on The Howe Enterprise Page are free for Howe businesses. If interested, please email ashley@howeenterprise.co m with either a graphic or with information you’d like to have in a post and we will get it out there to the public on our page!

Community Snow Pictures! Thank you to everyone who submitted snow pictures! More can be found in the Local Events section on Page 6! If we had an award for “Coolest Ice Picture” I think the one all by itself on Page 6 would’ve taken it! Stay safe and warm, friends!
