HOWE’S HAPPENINGS Victory Independent Publishing
Weeks the paper has less news I often catch myself feeling an odd sense of guilt. Why? Because even someone as passionate as I am about the integrity of journalism can forget sometimes, living in our culture, that news itself is not a product meant to be bought, rated, or sold. When news itself becomes a product, to be profitable it must remain in supply and demand. In a world of sensationalized news that never ends, lulls can seem abnormal, dull or even wrong. This line of thinking and many others have led to the absolute mess that is the state of the American Media. On the flip side, it’s a massively humbling experience to run even a tiny paper like this one and see more of the process of the business, morality, ethics, etc. side of journalism. It’s another one of those things– everyone has an opinion until it’s their turn. We are changing up the recipes in the opinion/lifestyle section. The old church ladies’ cookbook from my Great Aunt was fun while it lasted but we are moving on to a different style of cooking. I started off with a bang for this first one. The brownies on Page 9 taste delicious but have a secret ingredient that’s better not to tell until after they’re eaten!
