THE FIFA WORLD CUP 2026 IS COMING TO HOUSTON! The FIFA World Cup 2026™ is coming to NRG Stadium in 2026! On Thursday, June 16th, FIFA announced that Houston would be one of sixteen host cities for the FIFA World Cup 2026™. Part of a joint effort with Canada and Mexico, Houston is one
of eleven cities in the U.S that will host games. Mayor Sylvester Turner, Judge Lina Hidalgo, HCHSA CEO Janis Burke and others were on hand at Partnership Tower to watch the announcement live. As Mayor Turner said, “Our city’s diverse, community-driven, and innovative standing will deliver a memorable FIFA World Cup 2026™ experience for the players, fans, and everyone involved. The FIFA World Cup 2026™ 21

will leave a legacy for the people in this city for generations to come.” This is the first time Houston will host the FIFA World Cup 2026™, and FIFA’s event will be the biggest event held in the city’s history. The selection guarantees at least five games in Houston, including one knockout stage match.

Following the announcement of the FIFA World Cup 2026™ coming to Houston, The Harris County - Houston Sports Authority (HCHSA) hosted a celebration that took place at Pitch 25 Beer Park on Friday, June 17th. The event honored the FIFA World Cup 2026™ Bid
Committee and the Harris County - Houston Sports Authority for all of their hard work and dedication on securing Houston’s spot for the 2026 games. The event included speeches from the CEO of HCHSA, Janis Burke, and the leader of the Bid Committee, Chris Canetti, along with the Vice President of the

bid committee, John Arnold and others that helped along the way. Guests were welcomed with food, drinks, games, music and many photo opportunities. A video was also played showcasing all of the people that made the bid possible.

NCAA DIII WOMEN’S GOLF CHAMPIONSHIPS The 2022 NCAA DIII Women’s Golf Championships were hosted May 10-13, 2022, at Bay Oaks Country Club. Over 170 athletes from 25+ universities made their way to Houston to compete in the championship tournament. The four days of competition were fun and exciting, consisting of team and
individual competitions. Events like this wouldn’t be possible without the support of our dedicated and hardworking volunteers. Over 65 volunteers filled a total of 1,227 hours. The Harris County - Houston Sports Authority wants to thank ALL of our volunteers. 4

NATIONAL BATTLE OF THE BANDS PRESS CONFERENCE Event organizers made exciting announcements about the 2022 National Battle of the Bands presented by Pepsi. The Harris County - Houston Sports Authority (HCHSA) hosted a National Battle of the Bands (NBOTB) press conference on May 17, revealing the official event date, this year’s band lineup, and exciting details about the upcoming event. The 2022 event is scheduled for Saturday, August 27, at NRG Stadium and will kick off at 6:00 p.m. CST. Several
NBOTB events will also return, including the Pepsi NBOTB Presented by Toyota Step and Stroll Band Culture Kickoff, The Emerge Experience Entrepreneur Event Presented by J.P. Morgan Chase, and HBCU S.T.E.M. College Recruitment Fair. You will not want to miss this exciting event, so purchase your tickets now!
