2022 OLYMPIC & PARALYMPIC DAY On June 23rd at the Spring Branch Boys and Girls Club, The Harris County - Houston Sports Authority hosted its annual Olympic and Paralympic Day. Olympic and Paralympic athletes from the Houston Olympic & Paralympic Chapter gathered together to teach local kids about Olympic and Paralympic sports. The kids got the opportunity to learn and participate in events such as
Track and Field, Gymnastics, Tennis, Boxing, Bobsled, Taekwondo, Baseball, and Basketball, as well as the Paralympic sport Sitting Volleyball! The day also included lunch, autographs, and an Olympian & Paralympian Q&A session

hosted by event MC, KHOU Daniel Gotera. Thank you to our volunteers, Olympians and Paralympians for all of your hard work in giving these kids the experience of a lifetime!

The NCAA Men’s Final Four Houston Local Organizing Committee (HLOC) served on a panel at this month’s WISE (Women in Sports and Events) Power Play event. Holly Kesterson, HLOC President, along with several members of her team, shared insights and details on bringing this mega-event to the city of Houston. As the Men’s Final Four approaches, we look forward to seeing how Holly and her team continue to make positive change within the city while bringing this exciting event to Houston! 5
Imperial Red Company USA VS. FRENCH BARBARIANS RUGBY MATCH

USA VS. FRENCH BARBARIANS The USA Men’s Eagles XVs hosted the historic French Barbarians on July 1, 2022 at Aveva Stadium in Houston, TX. The USA Men’s XVs National Team defeated the French Barbarians 26-21 in an intense affair at Aveva Stadium – their first match of 2022 and first time together since October of 2021. Both teams battled through scattered, stop-start play in the pulsing heat of Houston summer. Overall, the U.S.
played well defensively,
pressuring the Barbarians at every outset, while struggling to overcome their own errors at the set piece. Ruben De Haas opened the score with a beautiful drop goal that mirrored the one he made against Canada last September, his second overall as an Eagle, and easily becoming a signature move. 6

It was 86-minutes of intense, international rugby at a level worthy of any test match, especially towards the end. Having not played together in 8 months, the U.S. squad showed cohesion, perseverance and grit in what was an important test for the battles ahead.

COPA DE LONE STAR #CopaDeLonestar The reigning Premier League champs, Manchester City, faced off against Liga MX powerhouse Club América on Wednesday, July 20, at the 2022 Copa de Lone Star hosted at NRG Stadium. This event brought
61,223 soccer fans together to experience this exciting match-up. Copa de Lone Star was a great reminder of the City of Houston’s love of soccer and fans’ excitement leading up to the 2026 World Cup!
