MISSION STATEMENT Provide oversight to world-class, professional sports venues and promote the region for sportsrelated events, which enhance economic development and bring a better quality of life to residents.
BOARD OF DIRECTORS The Board of Directors is composed of Houston and Harris County business owners, entrepreneurs, and attorneys, as well as religious and community leaders. Each is selected by Harris County Commissioners Court or Houston City Council, who jointly select the Chairman of the Board. This ensures that the taxpayers are represented while overseeing the investment of Houston’s major sports venues. All members volunteer without a political agenda. Their mission is to provide state-of-the-art sports facilities to enable Houston and Harris County to bring in revenues by attracting major sporting events, entertainment, and conventions that, in turn, benefit the local and regional economy.

APRIL 26, 2021 | Carlton Woods - Creekside The Fourth Annual Houston Sports Awards celebrated the city's legends, the year's top athletes, unforgettable moments and, of course, the 2021 Hall of Fame Class , with a full day of outdoor events at the Carlton Woods Fazio Course.

APRIL 26, 2021 Carlton Woods - Creekside Houston’s three legendary quarterbacks, Hall of Famer Warren Moon, Heisman Trophy winner Andre Ware, and University of Texas legend Vince Young hosted the inaugural Brothers In Arms Celebrity Golf Tournament on April 26, 2021 at the Carlton Woods in The Woodlands.
We are thrilled to take Brothers In Arms to the next level. Seeing the difference these scholarships have been able to make in these kid’s lives has been incredible, and this tournament will allow us to make an even greater impact. -Andre Ware

MAY 28 - JUNE 5, 2021 | Virtual Event When the World Transplant Games was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Harris County Houston Sports Authority created a way for the world to come together virtually with the 5K AnyWay that united transplant recipients, donors and donor families, health care workers, and supporters from around the world and raised awareness for transplantation.

JULY 30 – AUGUST 7, 2021 The AAU Junior Olympic Games is the largest amateur, multi-sport event in the country hosted by the Amateur Athletic Union. Over 15,000 athletes competed in 2021, marking the third time that the Harris County - Houston Sports Authority has hosted these games.

AUGUST 29, 2021 NRG Stadium Hosted for the first time in Houston since 2019, the National Battle of the Bands event was created to be the nation’s kick-off to the fall marching band season. This annual event hosted by the Harris County – Houston Sports Authority, in partnership with Webber Marketing, serves as a yearly celebration of arts, education, and the culture of Historically Black Colleges and Universities. To date, over $500,000 have been awarded in scholarship contributions.

GreenStreet | Walk of Fame The Houston Sports Hall of Fame Day honors legendary sports figures from or associated with the Houston area that have made a significant impact in their sport.
JANUARY 21, 2021 On January 21, 2021, we honored the Class of 2020, Mary Lou Retton, Rudy Tomjanovich, and Carl Lewis.
SEPTEMBER 21, 2021 On September 21, 2021, we honored Jeff Bagwell, Craig Biggio, Andre Johnson, Guy V. Lewis, and Bill Yeoman, who make up the Class of 2021.

OCTOBER 22 - 24, 2021 | Rockstar Energy Bike Park For the third time in three years, the nation’s best riders filled Rockstar Energy Bike Park to compete at every different level from 6 & Under through Vet Pro and Elite. The 2021 USABMX Lone Star Nationals were the first major event at the park since the COVID-19 pandemic.

NOVEMBER 21 - 29, 2021 | George R. Brown Convention Center This renowned sporting event is the oldest in table tennis history, dating to 1926, and serves as an annual opportunity to showcase the world’s best table tennis players. 2021 marked the first time the World Table Tennis Championships (WTTC) were hosted in the Americas . In addition to the WTTC debut in the Americas in Houston, the event also celebrated the 50th Anniversary year of Ping Pong Diplomacy between China and the United States..

2026 FIFA WORLD CUP SITE VISIT OCTOBER 26, 2021 | Houston, TX
2026 World Cup Bid Committee President, Chris Canetti and Harris County - Houston Sports Authority CEO, Janis Burke welcomed a FIFA delegation to the city of Houston. During the visit, the delegation led by Concacaf President/FIFA Vice President Victor Montagliani met with Houston bid leaders and stakeholders to discuss critical topics such as venue management, infrastructure, sustainability, legal, and legacy plans. The visit also included inspections of essential infrastructure, including NRG Stadium, training facilities, and potential fan festival venues.
