“I am running to become the first African American ever elected to the 14TH Court of Appeals. I am a native Houstonian and have only lived outside of Houston when I attended college at Texas A&M University. I have been a fighter for

justice and equality since I was a teenager in the late 80's. You see in 1987 my cousin and his two small kids were murdered and the offender was sentenced to death row. The murders would change the trajectory of my life. I went on to graduate from college where I majored in Criminal Justice and then I went to law school. During law school, the offender in my cousins’ murders was sentenced to her death day in a Harris County courtroom. I went to the jail and visited the offender as she had vehemently expressed that she was innocent. Again, I am a fighter for justice and despite the fact that my three cousins would never see the light of day again, I began a journey to ensure my family would know the truth and ultimately receive justice in their murders. Though I am not a proponent for the death penalty, the last thing I could consciously conceive was for an innocent woman to die for crimes she did not commit. I turned over every stone by interviewing the detectives, prosecutors, and other witnesses regarding the facts of the case. In the end the facts lead me to believe the offender was in fact the murderer and I attended her execution in 2005.�
