GEORGE RISNER IS RUNNING FOR COMMISSIONER PRECINCT 2

After 35 years of service as Justice of the Peace in Precinct 2, George Risner has announced his candidacy for Commissioner Precinct 2. Risner’s years of service as Justice of the Peace give him a unique perspective and knowledge of Precinct 2 and its needs. Risner is running for Commissioner to create a difference in the Precinct 2 community by making neighborhoods safer, the criminal justice system more fair, and the County’s budget fiscally sound. The Precinct 2 Commissioner can influence land use decisions, encourage affordable housing, support programs that avoid evictions, strengthen library and mentoring programs to enhance quality education, and reach out to the business community to expand employment and economic opportunities. Ris-
ner has a special interest in improving the criminal justice system, including a system of bail that is fair to all arrested persons, and trial dockets that assure defendants a speedy trial. Risner wants the opportunity to participate in securing grants for housing stabilization and rental assistance, improving residential building standards and increasing inspections for the safety and the health of residents, making mental health services available in the Precinct, and maintaining the local parks and recreational areas for the use and enjoyment of the citizens of Precinct 2. Enhancing services and programs for seniors is also a priority. Risner is a lifetime member of the Houston and Pasadena Livestock Shows & Rodeos and is a member of the S. P. Waltrip Masonic Lodge #1328.
Risner participates in local business and civic organizations, and is a member of the Texas Justice Court Judges Association. I truly believe that all children need love. Adoption is a fundamental necessity in our society. According to openly published statistics, as of June 2017, over 2,386 children in Harris County were in foster homes. I intend to do everything within my power as Judge of the
314th Juvenile District Court to reunify families whenever it is safe to do so.

I believe a three-prong approach is key when working with our troubled youth: rehabilitation programs (plus) mentorship (plus) education is my focus. Experience In & Out of the Courtroom
The 315th Juvenile District Court handles two types of cases. Juvenile delinquency cases where youth, between the ages of 1017, has allegedly engaged in delinquent conduct. In addition to cases involving the Texas Department of Family & Protective Services (“CPS”), where there has been allegations of child abuse or neglect. I decided to run for judge because I want to be in a position to ensure that fairness & justice is given to everyone. Judges are the ultimate decision makers and those decisions are life altering. As a product of Harris County and the Foster Care System, I am too familiar with the fact that one decision has the potential to propel someone’s life towards success or disaster, as well as those connected to them. If elected, my decisions will be made by looking at each case holistically, while listening to each set of facts and applying the law with compassion based off of the information presented. My experience is not limited to the courtroom. I have the real life experience of a juvenile who has been a part of the system, something that a text book or law book cannot teach you. I also have the experience as an attorney representing the system & following the law. A judge should be a reflection of the community they serve. Because of these experiences, I am the right candidate to preside as judge the 315th District Court!

Judge Sedrick T. Walker II is a Houston native and graduate of Texas A&M University. He graduated with honors from A&M in 2005 with a B.S. in Political Science. After graduating from University of Texas School of Law in Austin, he worked as a prosecutor at the Harris County District Attorney's Office from 2009 to 2012 where he handled thousands of cases ranging from misdemeanors to 1st-degree felonies. His experience included working on every aspect of cases from the initial filing stage, gathering evidence, making grand jury presentations in felony cases, and ultimately the trial phase. As an Assistant DA, he was recognized for his willingness to work long hours, fairness in negotiations with the defense bar, and a constant commitment to a prosecutor’s ultimate duty – to seek justice, not merely to convict. After working tirelessly in the criminal courtrooms of Harris County for many years he decided to run for the Harris County Criminal Court at Law No. 11 bench and won, back on Tuesday, November 6, 2018. Judge Sedrick T. He graduated from college and immediately commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the U.S. Army. DaSean attended the Field Artillery Officer Basic Course and volunteered for his first duty station in Uijongbu, Korea, where he worked as a Multiple Launcher Rocket System Platoon Leader. The Army taught DaSean how to make tough, life changing decisions.
