We’ve finally made it to Election Day, for the HISD and HCC School Board Joint Runoff Elections. I hope that you’re as excited as I am. And just think about it, right after these elections are over, on Monday, December 13, 2021, the ballots are going to be set for the Tuesday, March 1, 2022, “SUPER TUESDAY” Midterm Elections. So, please don’t forget to tell all of your family and friends to get to the polls before 7:00pm tonight if they live inside the boundaries of HISD District I, HISD District V, HISD District VI, HISD District VII, or HCC District VIII. Why? Well, because the HISD and HCC School Boards are a complete train wreck right now, and chang is needed. AUBREY R. ABOUT BRIDGET WADE Bridget was born in Houston. She attended Briargrove Elementary, Paul Revere Middle School, Wisdom (formerly Robert E. Lee) and Episcopal High Schools. Bridget then earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from The University of Oklahoma. Bridget’s leadership involvement in education is longstanding, including President of Briargrove Elementary PTO, Carnival Chair and Campus New Construction Committee. She also sat on the Episcopal High School Board of Trustees, Alumni Council and Chaired the Auction and Annual Fund. Bridget also has served as volunteer for Yellowstone Academy and Have Haven. Bridget’s deep appreciation for our city has led her to numerous leadership positions on several Boards and Leadership Committees in
BRIDGET FOR THE KIDS Houston. In addition to serving as Briargrove Elementary PTO President, she led a special task force for Methodist Hospital. Bridget also chaired the Advisory Board for The Blaffer Museum of Art at The University of Houston and currently sits on the National Advisory Board for The Blanton Museum at The University of Texas. Bridget has been married to Patrick Wade for 29 years and together they have 3 adult children and one daughter-in-law. She and Patrick are founding members of The Church of the Apostles.

I am a native Houstonian and a former student of the Houston Independent School System. My personal journey is uniquely Houston centered. I am an optimist, but I see we need help to restore faith in HISD’s leadership. Our schools and our city are full of potential. The CAN-DO attitude that is synonymous with Houston’s founding is the type of attitude I will bring to the Board. I am committed to bringing results and to offering our community hope in our children’s future once again. Our children are Houston’s future! An educated workforce will keep Houston powerful and vibrant. Our children must be our first order of business in Houston’s future. Research is clear: the foundations set in the early years of life are the building blocks for future academic success. Better academic outcomes bring better job opportunities and a more successful Houston.

Sadly, our district leadership seems focused on other priorities, and for far too many students, poor student outcomes is the result. We must put our kids first! Every measure we look at should be laser-focused on this alone. 1. Sound reading skills that start with proven time-tested methods. 2. Math basics that are core to advancement. 3. Budget accountability to our taxpayers. 4. Teachers given opportunities for training, guidance, and accessible teaching tools. 5. Competitive pay for teachers so that HISD can attract and retain the best teachers for our kids. 6. Leadership that sets the path and tone for a long-term vision, goal setting and holding themselves accountable for results. 7. Better utilize the HISD annual budget to elevate student outcomes. 8. Reasonable and attainable goals, both short and long term. 9. Innovation to meet the needs of our students, staff, and infrastructure. 10. Foster a healthy relationship between our schools, staff and the community. Hope needs to be fueled and independence fostered. Our goals are to have kids graduating ready for career, college and/or military. Our children are worth the investment!

MEET DR. JHARRETT BRYANTT
Dr. Jharrett Bryantt is currently running for Houston Community College Board of Trustees, District VIII. He began his career as a high school math teacher in Houston’s East End, which is one of the communities he will represent as District VIII trustee. A career educator, Dr. Bryantt spent over 8 years working for the Houston Independent School District, where he’s served in numerous roles, including College Counselor and Assistant Superintendent of College Readiness. He is running for HCC trustee because he’s passionate about expanding opportunities for Houstonians to thrive in high-demand, highwage careers, and he possesses the expertise in college access to make an impact at HCC on day one. In 2019 he was named to Forbes Magazine’s 30 Under 30 List in Education, and he was named to the 2021 Forbes list of 50 Champions for elevating people of color. Dr. Bryantt received his Doctorate in Education Policy & Leadership from the University of Texas at Austin and his Bachelor’s degree from Yale University.
