Editor’s Note

Some indulgences are loud. Others are beautifully quiet — the kind that protect your time, lower your shoulders, and remind you what “luxury” was meant to feel like in the first place.

That’s the thread running through this issue: experiences that hold you. Privacy without isolation. Service without intrusion. Settings that feel quietly irreplaceable.

We open with Bangkok’s grand storyteller: Mandarin Oriental, Bangkok, now celebrating 150 years. Opened as The Oriental in 1876 on the Chao Phraya, it has spent a century and a half perfecting the rare art of making the present moment feel timeless. Writers like Somerset Maugham and Noël Coward found their sentences here, music icons from David Bowie to Elton John have left their imprint, and many evenings still drift, inevitably, toward the Bamboo Bar — Bangkok’s pioneering jazz spot since 1953 — where low light, polished craftsmanship, cocktails served with confidence, and music that seems to soften the edges of the city do the rest. The anniversary programming runs from November 2025 to March 2027 under the theme “Unfolding Legacies” — and if your celebration lasts that long, you’ve earned the right to call it a legacy.

Running in parallel, the Thailand Yachting Conference drew industry voices into conversations around sustainability, standards, and the practical realities of growing a world-class marine sector. By Sunday evening, the message was clear: Phuket is not just a place to visit; it is a place to arrive — by sea, by story, and by lifestyle.

And then we slip into Asia’s private villa era — and Elite Havens, the early mover that helped shape it. Born in Bali in 1998 and now operating under Dusit, the brand curates nearly 300 private villas and chalets across India, Indonesia, Japan, Thailand, Sri Lanka, and the Maldives, delivering hotel-grade consistency with the intimacy of a private home. In Thailand, the “private-haven” promise is wonderfully tangible: the beachfront scale of Jivana Villa Ananda on Natai Beach, Phang Nga, and the elevated serenity above Naithon at Malaiwana — from the design-forward Duplex Residences to the sunset-facing Villa M. With Thai chefs, villa managers, housekeeping, and 24-hour security, the experience stays polished and calm without ever losing the intimacy of a private home.

From the river, we head to the marina — and to Phuket, where the Thailand International Boat Show 2026 turned Phuket Yacht Haven Marina into a living showroom of marine design and waterfront possibility. For four days, it blended buying intent with social energy, backed by senior representatives from the Ministry of Tourism and Sports and Phuket Province. Live music and VIP lounge tastings kept the marina lively, and a children’s sailing regatta added a reminder that boating culture is about continuity.

However you choose to travel through this issue — riverfront legend, marina-day dreams, or a private villa that makes “checking out” feel optional — I hope it nudges you toward the kind of luxury that actually matters: time well spent, people well chosen, and a little more space to breathe. Until next month, may your calendar be light, your horizons wide, and your next great story waiting just beyond the waterline.

Sun-Kissed Seas: Bounty of the Southern Region at Nimitr Restaurant

Nimitr Restaurant & Rooftop Bar at 137 Pillars Suites & Residences Bangkok invites diners to discover the sunlit flavours of southern Thailand with “Sun-Kissed Seas,” a seasonal menu that brings the region’s coastal abundance to the city’s skyline. Inspired by warm ruby and golden tones, the series captures the early-year spirit of renewal and plenty, expressed through refined Thai flavours and a contemporary culinary touch.

Available from 1 January to 31 March 2026, the menu is designed as a regional journey—one that honours southern ingredients at their seasonal peak while presenting them with modern technique and elegant restraint. The kitchen draws from both sea and land, showcasing produce that naturally reflects the collection’s vibrant palette, from pink snapper and torch ginger

flower to kiao shoots and pink pomelo. Aromatic herbs and spices add depth and brightness, creating dishes that feel vivid, layered and unmistakably southern in character.

Among the highlights is Yum Pu Nim Bai Cha Kram, where crispy soft-shell crab is paired with deep-fried sea blite leaves and fresh betel leaves, brought together by a tamarind-based dressing with sour mango, torch ginger and red chilli. Pla Krapong Nam Prik Kra Jeab presents a confit red snapper “mosaic” alongside a roselle Thai-style sauce, betel leaves and ant eggs, combining finesse with bold regional identity. For those drawn to southern curries, Gaeng Kua Pla Hima Gapeak features pan-seared snow fish topped with crisp skin, served in a southern-style curry with grilled kiao shoots and red chilli oil. The menu closes on a gently nostal-

gic note with Apple Yang—grilled apple glazed with cinnamon sugar, finished with vanilla sauce and a tangy-sweet roselle reduction.

Served daily from 5.00 p.m. to 11.00 p.m., “Sun-Kissed Seas” pairs Bangkok’s metropolitan energy with flavours shaped by the Andaman coast and the fertile landscapes of the South. Set high above the city at Nimitr Restaurant, the experience offers a polished meeting of tradition and innovation—an inviting way to begin the year through thoughtfully crafted Thai cuisine.

Italian Amore Above Bangkok: Valentine’s Night at Sartoria, EA Rooftop

Sartoria by Paulo Airaudo, the stylish MICHELIN Selected dining destination perched on the 56th floor of EA Rooftop at The Empire, invites couples to celebrate Valentine’s Day with “Serata Romantica” — an evening that pairs Italian elegance with Bangkok’s most dramatic skyline views. Set high above the city and stretching toward the Chao Phraya River, the restaurant offers an atmosphere that feels cinematic and intimate in equal measure, ideal for lovers seeking a truly special night.

As Chef Paulo Airaudo’s first Southeast Asian restaurant, Sartoria brings a distinctly European sense of craft to Bangkok’s fine dining scene. Inspired by Florence — the Tuscan home of Italian tailoring — the venue channels the romance of Italian design through a sophisticated setting where detail, refinement and mood are part of the experience. Chef Airaudo’s global reputation is equally compelling, having earned eight Michelin stars worldwide, and “Serata Romantica” is positioned as

a showcase of his culinary artistry at its most indulgent.

Meaning “Romantic Night,” the experience unfolds through an eightcourse menu created for 14 February 2026, celebrating premium ingredients and classic Italian technique with contemporary finesse. Guests begin with a welcome glass of Champagne, before the evening moves into a perfectly clear consommé and a trio of amuse bouches — mortadella with pistachio, lobster with melon tartlet, and wagyu with shallot jam and potato. Ocean-driven luxury follows with Oyster & Caviar accented by horseradish and chervil, leading into ricciola (greater amberjack) with radish, panzanella essence and basil, and a scallop course finished with Champagne sauce and caviar.

Italian staples are reimagined with a choice between tagliolini pasta with langoustine and yuzu, or saffron risotto with red shrimp, Amalfi lemon and kumquat. For the main course, couples

may select either turbot elevated with Americana sauce, blue mussels, parsnip and dill, or lamb paired with morels, celeriac, pearl onions, lovage and potato espuma. The night concludes with a duo of desserts — chocolate with cherry and vanilla, followed by a cake infused with lemon and passionfruit — before petit fours and fresh fruit complete the finale.

Available on Saturday 14 February 2026 from 18.00 to 22.30 hrs., the eightcourse Valentine’s set menu is priced at THB 14,900++ per couple and includes two glasses of Champagne, a red rose and a framed photo. A six-glass wine pairing is offered for THB 3,800++ per couple.

Love on the River: Valentine’s Dining Aboard Sirimahannop at Asiatique

Running for seven nights from 9–15 February 2026, including Valentine’s Day on 14 February, the experience blends refined dining with the romance of the Chao Phraya, framed by the ship’s timeless silhouette and views over the glistening “River of Kings.”

More than a dinner, “Love on the River” is presented as a culinary journey back to the era of the Ayutthaya Kingdom, when the Chao Phraya was a thriving artery of commerce and culture, lined with lively markets, waterside shophouses, grand palaces and foreign settlements. Through an exclusive à la carte selection of five

dishes, Sirimahannop’s chefs evoke the spirit of exploration and discovery with premium ingredients, artistic presentation and flavour profiles that feel both rooted in Thai heritage and confidently modern.

The menu opens with Scallop & Coconut Ceviche, a bright, vibrant composition enlivened with pomelo, coriander oil and caviar. Sugarcane Smoked Duck Breast follows with a fragrant, exotic edge, paired with lychee and butterfly pea sauce for a dish that plays with aroma, sweetness and colour. For a more luxurious centrepiece, Canadian Lobster Choo Chee is offered as half or whole lobster, chargrilled and served in a rich red curry sauce with local spinach and lemon. Meat lovers are equally well served with Lamb Rack Kor Lae — succulent lamb marinated in red curry, finished with a fresh herb salad that adds lift and contrast.

Dessert arrives as a final flourish: Hot Love, an indulgent Valrhona chocolate mousse paired with chilli and raspberry sorbet and a chocolate tart. It is a bold, romantic close — the kind of sweet heat and richness that lingers long after the last spoonful, perfectly matched to an evening spent on the river.

Set to open in 2026, the Bangkok-based group’s first Phuket resort trades the noise of the west coast for family-friendly ease, sea-view living, and Rawai’s enduring local rhythm.

Bringing its signature understated sophistication to Phuket, Chatrium Hospitality is preparing to unveil Chatrium Rawai Phuket in 2026—marking the Thai group’s first resort on the island. Set along the serene southern shoreline, the new opening is positioned as a considered counterpoint to Phuket’s high-energy beach strips: relaxed, horizon-facing, and shaped by a distinctly Thai sense of welcome, where service is guided by cultural values of

respect, joy, and generosity, alongside an eco-conscious ethos woven into the guest experience.

The resort will feature 304 contemporary rooms, suites, and pool villas arranged in a layered architectural pattern, designed so that many balconies frame wide, cinematic views of the Andaman Sea. Inside, the mood is calm and light-filled, with interiors that prioritise comfort and ease—spaces intended to feel intuitive rather than showy, and suited to slow mornings, long afternoons, and unhurried evenings that revolve around the view.

For families, the emphasis is on togetherness without compromise.

Purpose-built accommodations are complemented by a lively kids’ club and splash pools engineered for shared enjoyment, complete with water slides that turn warm-weather days into their own itinerary. Beyond the rooms, the rhythm shifts easily from play to pause: a dedicated Wellness & Spa Center anchors restorative time, while a beachside water sports hub keeps the sea within reach. At the heart of the resort, a spectacular pool deck stretches toward the horizon, creating a natural gathering point for sunlit lounging, golden-hour swims, and the kind of wide-angle seascapes that make time feel elastic.

HOT AROUND PHUKET

Dining is designed to mirror Rawai’s sense of place—coastal, generous, and rooted in local character. A seafood-focused all-day venue takes inspiration from a traditional fisherman’s market, pairing local catches with the bold aromatics of Thailand’s southern flavours. Elsewhere, a poolside restaurant and bar serves tropical drinks and light fare by the shore, while a relaxed lobby lounge offers easy refreshments throughout the day—ideal for unplanned meet-ups, post-excursion wind-downs, and casual moments between island adventures.

That spirit of discovery is part of Rawai’s enduring appeal. With its laid-back coastal atmosphere, the area serves as a natural gateway to coral reefs, diving sites, and sun-drenched

islands, with long-tail boats departing from the shoreline for nearby escapes. Rawai also retains a strong sense of community, shaped by its working fishing culture and the famed Sea Gypsy Village, where fresh seafood is bought directly from fishermen. For travellers who like their luxury grounded in authenticity, the setting offers a pleasing balance: quiet beauty with a lived-in soul, plus easy access to nearby landmarks such as Promthep Cape and Ya Nui Beach.

A 30 to 40 minutes’ drive from Phuket Old Town and around 90 minutes from the airport, Chatrium Rawai Phuket also signals something bigger for its parent group. Headquartered in Bangkok, Chatrium Hospitality is one of

Thailand’s leading independent hotel groups, with a portfolio spanning 11 properties across Thailand, Myanmar, and Japan. Operating under the Chatrium Hotels & Residences and Maitria Hotels & Residences brands, the group encompasses more than 3,100 keys, with a reputation built on Thai-inspired hospitality, world-class service standards, and a commitment to sustainable practices—an approach that feels especially fitting for a resort designed to sit lightly on the island while giving guests every reason to stay awhile.

A Culinary Journey at Chay Had

Welcome to Chay Had Restaurant at the Hilton Hua Hin Resort & Spa. This gastronomic gem is nestled along Hua Hin’s pristine shoreline, where sun-kissed flavors are perfectly complemented by the gentle sea breeze and the sound of waves lapping against the shore. Here, newly imagined Mediterranean cuisine meets the endless horizons of the Gulf of Thailand. Each dish is an incredible experience set against the stunning backdrop of the best views Hua Hin has to offer.

Our evening began with three delicious appetizers, complemented by two signature cocktails and one mocktail.

The Chay Had Sangria provided an exquisite start, blending vibrant rosé and Mediterranean flavors with a unique Thai twist: SangSom Thai Rum. Notes of crisp apple, zesty orange, pineapple, and tart lime make it perfect for enjoying the sea breeze. Next came the Campari Limoncello Sour, a refreshing blend of bittersweet Campari and zesty limoncello with freshly squeezed lime. The addition of egg white creates a lovely, frothy texture. Our mocktail offering, the Strawberry Breeze, captured the essence of summer with fresh strawberries, lime juice, strawberry syrup, and effervescent soda water.

While sipping our drinks, we savored the starters. First was a delightful basket of taro and banana chips accompanied by a light, fluffy guacamole and a tangy salsa. One of my favorites was the Melon Iberico, an exquisite pairing of Iberico ham, juicy melon, crisp cucumbers, and cherry tomatoes drizzled with a light vinaigrette—a myriad of flavors and textures that pleased the palate.

As the cocktails paired perfectly with the food, time seemed to slow down. Then came another showstopper: the Cioppino Fish Stew. This vibrant dish is a medley of the freshest seafood, featuring flaky white fish, succulent shrimp, and tender mussels simmered in an aromatic broth. The infusion of garlic, white wine, and herbs was intriguing; no single ingredient stood out, creating a magical blend.

The first main course followed, and it did not disappoint: the Whole Seabass. This dish showcases the freshness of the fish, foil-roasted to tender perfection. Sautéed vegetables add a delightful crunch, while zesty lemon elevates the flavor. A tasty, very spicy Thai sauce is served alongside; however, for those who prefer less heat, there is a smooth salsa verde alternative. It is a must-try for seafood lovers.

As the sun set, the lights around the pool and restaurant created a wonderful new ambience. Out at sea, squid boats cast a green glow across the water. Staying with seafood, the Lobster Bisque Fettuccine was served, featuring succulent lobster meat and a generous application of creamy bisque sauce, finished with parmesan cheese and aromatic basil.

Showcasing the skill of the chef and her staff once again, the Beef Striploin was a true standout. The expertly grilled Australian beef was cooked to medium-rare perfection and accompanied by sweet potatoes that offered a hint of caramelization. The dish was further elevated by a fresh, herbaceous chimichurri sauce.

Though we were feeling quite full, dessert was on the horizon. The Taro Custard Cake with crispy shallots and a coconut tuile was exactly the light treat I hoped for. This dish showcases Chay Had’s commitment to innovative textures, featuring a velvety custard—a Thai favorite—with a Polynesian twist.

To our surprise, two more desserts arrived. The Pistachio Tiramisu offered a delightful twist on the Italian classic, with layers of pistachio mascarpone enveloping coffee-soaked ladyfingers. Equally appealing was the Crème Brûlée. A show-stopping marriage of tradition and elegance, the rich vanilla bean base was topped with a brittle caramelized glaze and fresh berries. The sound of the surface breaking was an invitation to indulge in the creamy interior.

As with all good things, the evening drew to a close—the culmination of a nine-course meal that left an indelible impression. From the vibrant starters to the decadent desserts, every bite was a testament to the expertise of the chef and the pride of the staff. Whether you are dining with friends or looking for a romantic evening, Chay Had is a perfect choice. Reservations are highly recommended.

Let's Meet Dr. Jit Sirikorn Nortim

Let’s Meet

What is your full name and age?

My full name is Dr. Jit - Sirikorn Nortim. For me, age and numbers are not limitations, but rather the accumulation of confidence and experience. I am proud to be the happiest version of myself right now...

What is your current occupation?

I am an executive and social strategist. I manage Im-Ok Im-Jai Pranburi Seafood & Cafe, Pranburi Cabana Resort, and serve as the President of the Thai Restaurant and Street Food Association, Prachuap Khiri Khan Province, and the Chairperson of the Network of 8 Provinces in the Central West Region. I combine my doctoral degree and my experience as a champion chef to drive business and improve the lives of people in my hometown community.

What do you like most about your career?

I think it's proving that "potential has no limits." I love how my role inspires modern women to be proud of themselves, no matter their body shape or profession. If we have knowledge and clear goals, we can be modern and internationally recognized leaders.

How long have you lived in Pranburi, and where did you live before that?

Pranburi is my cherished heritage. Although my lifestyle involves constant travel, staying up-to-date with global trends, and enjoying a modern life, the destination where I want to dedicate my knowledge and abilities is Pranburi. I want to transform Pranburi into a landmark that perfectly blends local charm with modern elements.

What do you like most about Pranburi?

I love the "sincerity" of the local people. Pranburi has everything that enhances the beauty of nature: a private, peaceful, and clean beach, the freshest seafood from local fishermen, and pure air. It teaches us to be beautiful from within and to be proud of what we have. What is your favorite restaurant?

I have to say "Im-ok Im-jai Pranburi Seafood & Cafe"! Because I create the menu, and every dish is based on an understanding of consumer physiology and excellent health. Every dish is delicious and nutritious. I want everyone who dines here to feel proud of the specially selected food, prepared with care, and to enjoy a high-quality dining experience.

What is your favorite restaurant for special occasions?

I recommend private dining at Pranburi Cabana Resort. They utilize the skills of nationally renowned chefs to create amazing menus, both in appearance and taste. For special occasions, we deserve the best, reflecting our taste and success. Therefore, for me, this is the perfect answer.

What do you like to do in your free time?

I enjoy "endless learning," whether it's staying updated on fashion trends, management skills, conducting fieldwork for new information, or participating in charitable activities. I believe that modern women are those who are dynamic and know how to transform stress into positive energy. Where would you recommend first-time visitors go and experience Pranburi?

I want everyone to experience the lifestyle of the fishermen. This will show them the origins of the food I serve at my restaurant. Then you'll understand that true luxury is being close to nature and eating food made from pristine, natural ingredients, delivered with genuine care.

On nights out with friends, where do you like to go?

Places where we can unleash our inner modern woman, exchange ideas with friends, boost our confidence, and recharge for the big day ahead.

Tell us a surprising fact that the public may not know about you?

People often think that being overweight or curvy might be uncomfortable, but for me, I use my body shape as a source of happiness. I can work hard, go into the field, and brave the sun and wind with the local people with great energy. I turn every questioning gaze into admiration for my abilities.

What's the strangest thing you've ever done?

It's turning body shaming into immense motivation. I chose not to be thin according to societal norms, but instead chose to be more talented, more modern, and more successful, to the point where everyone accepts me for who I am. Being a doctor, the president of an association supporting charitable organizations, and a beautiful mother is the clearest answer to my question.

Mandarin Oriental Bangkok at 150: The River Still Knows Every Story

There are luxury hotels, and then there are places that feel stitched into a city’s identity. Along the Chao Phraya River, at 48 Oriental Avenue in Bang Rak, Mandarin Oriental, Bangkok has spent a century and a half perfecting that rare art: making the present moment feel timeless. Opened in 1876 as The Oriental, it began as a riverside refuge for early international travelers and quickly became one of Thailand’s most prestigious addresses. In 2026, the hotel marks its 150th year, celebrating not just longevity, but a living legacy that continues to evolve with Bangkok itself.

Let’s Stay

The hotel’s origin story is inseparable from Siam’s opening to foreign trade after the Bowring Treaty. An early inn, launched by American Captain Atkins Dyer and J.E. Barnes, was lost to fire in 1865, but the river kept calling travelers back. Danish captains rebuilt, and the opening of the River Wing in 1876 is widely regarded as the true beginning of the property’s modern life. By 1887, Hans Niels Andersen had expanded it into a grander vision, introducing innovations such as a multi-story design and a 50-seat bar—details that sound like footnotes now, yet signaled something bold for the era: Bangkok was ready to host the world in style.

Royal patronage sealed that reputation. From 1890, King Chulalongkorn welcomed dignitaries at The Oriental, reinforcing the hotel’s status as a social and diplomatic stage. The arrival of Tsar Nicholas II’s entourage in 1891 further cemented its role as a gateway between Siam and the wider world. The hotel would endure difficult chapters too, including Japanese occupation during World War II and the tiredness that often follows upheaval, when glamour fades and buildings begin to show their age. Yet the Oriental has always been a place that reinvents itself without losing its soul.

That modern revival gathered momentum after 1947, under Germaine Krull and partners including Jim Thompson, restoring the property’s allure and renewing its sense of theater. In 1958, the Garden Wing arrived with Bangkok’s first elevator—an understated milestone that speaks volumes about how the hotel has often been first, quietly, without fanfare. A new legend also took shape in this era: the Bamboo Bar, which would become one of Bangkok’s most evocative after-dark rooms. Later, Italthai’s 1967 acquisition under Kurt Wachtveitl helped propel the hotel into a new chapter of refinement and expansion, followed by the 1972 River Wing, the opening of the renowned spa in 1993, and a full room renovation in 2003. In 2008, the name aligned fully with the global group identity, becoming Mandarin Oriental, Bangkok, while still carrying the unmistakable cadence of “The Oriental” in the way people speak about it.

To understand the hotel today, it helps to understand the Mandarin Oriental brand itself. The brand emerged from a 1985 merger between Mandarin International Hotels Limited and the owners of The Oriental in Bangkok, uniting two flagships: The Mandarin in Hong Kong, which debuted in 1963 as a pioneering high-rise known for exceptional service, and Bangkok’s storied riverside hotel established in 1876. Mandarin International was formed in 1974 and acquired a 49% stake in The Oriental that year—an early step that set the stage for global expansion under a single, unmistakable identity rooted in Asian-inspired elegance and deeply personal hospitality. From those beginnings, the group has grown to 40 hotels by 2024, with new chapters unfolding across regions including the Middle East, Europe, and beyond, and plans that look to 26 more hotels and 14 residences through 2030.

Bangkok remains the heart that beats loudest, in part because the setting is so effortlessly cinematic. The river here is not background scenery; it is the hotel’s most enduring design feature. Private ferry access adds a note of discreet glamour and genuine practicality, whisking guests toward icons such as Wat Arun and the Grand Palace while preserving the sensation of a sanctuary set apart from the city’s energy. It is a rare balance: central, yet serene; historic, yet unmistakably alive.

Inside, that balance continues in the accommodations. Newly redesigned rooms, ranging from 38 to 63 square meters, bring together teak floors, Thai silks, and river views that feel like living artwork. The larger room categories are designed for lingering, with floor-to-ceiling windows and thoughtful zones for dining and lounging, while details such as balconies, Bose speakers, and Nespresso machines nod to the expectations of modern luxury. Suites expand the experience into deeper indulgence, from 83 square meters in select categories to 150 square meters in the Premier Two-Bedroom options that lend themselves to extended stays and family travel. Signature suites honour figures intertwined with the hotel’s lore, echoing a tradition in which a stay is never simply a stay—it is a chapter.

That sense of story is amplified by the hotel’s guest list, which reads like a timeline of culture, politics, and celebrity. Writers have long found the setting irresistible: Somerset Maugham, Joseph Conrad, and Noël Coward are among those who drew inspiration here, joined by names such as Graham Greene, John le Carré, Barbara Cartland, James Michener, and Tennessee Williams. Hollywood royalty has followed, with luminaries including Elizabeth Taylor, Audrey Hepburn, Grace Kelly, Marlon Brando, Sean Connery, Roger Moore, Robert De Niro, Judi Dench, Michelle Yeoh, Sylvester Stallone, and Tom Cruise. Music icons, too, have left their imprint, from David Bowie, Elton John, Mick Jagger, Eric Clapton, and Sting to jazz greats whose presence feels tailor-made for a riverside hotel that understands mood as well as service. Royalty and statesmen have come through these doors across generations, including King Chulalongkorn and later visitors such as Queen Elizabeth II, Princess Diana, Prince Charles, Queen Sirikit, and the Sultan of Brunei, alongside political figures and global leaders who have used Bangkok as a meeting point between worlds.

Many of those nights, inevitably, lead to the Bamboo Bar. Opened in 1953, it is often described as Bangkok’s pioneering jazz spot, but its reputation is built on more than history. The Bamboo Bar is a feeling: low light, polished craftsmanship, cocktails served with confidence, and music that seems to soften the edges of time. Over the decades, the room has lured remarkable performers and impromptu moments, with names such as Frank Sinatra, Louis Armstrong, Sting, and Bryan Ferry woven into its mythology. The bar’s ongoing evolution, including themed cocktail journeys such as “The Evolution,” keeps it relevant without ever losing its signature hush of glamour. In a city crowded with new venues, the Bamboo Bar remains a destination precisely because it never tries too hard; it simply is.

The same assured confidence defines the hotel’s dining. Le Normandie by Anne-Sophie Pic anchors the culinary offering with classic French craftsmanship and a two Michelin star reputation that underscores its place in Bangkok’s fine-dining hierarchy. For Thai flavours, Baan Phraya reimagines local cuisine with contemporary finesse, while The China House channels 1930s Shanghai glamour in both atmosphere and culinary intent. Lord Jim’s brings a generous, international sensibility, The Authors’ Lounge remains an emblem of afternoon tea elegance, and riverside settings such as Riverside Terrace create those quintessential Bangkok evenings where the city glows from the waterline. Italian touches arrive via Ciao Terrazza, while Thai dining traditions across the river are reflected in venues such as Terrace Rim Naam and Sala Rim Naam, reinforcing how the hotel’s relationship with the river is both literal and cultural.

Wellness has long been part of the Mandarin Oriental, Bangkok story, not as a trend but as a pillar. The Oriental Spa, opened in 1993, helped define a modern Bangkok spa experience with holistic treatments set amid lush gardens, complemented by a fitness center and the kind of calm that feels increasingly rare. Beyond that, guests find an experience that leans toward resort-style ease without losing metropolitan polish: an azure infinity pool, a yoga pavilion, private ferries, and even pursuits such as Thai cooking and tennis that turn a stay into a rhythm rather than a checklist.

This is also a hotel built for gatherings. With ballrooms, riverfront lawns, and a portfolio of venues suited to everything from boardroom discussions to gala dinners, the Mandarin Oriental, Bangkok has become a trusted stage for society’s most important moments. Its event capability spans up to 11 venues and can accommodate gatherings of up to 500, while spaces such as the Mandarin Ballroom and Authors’ Lounge carry a particular prestige for those who appreciate tradition delivered with impeccable logistics. Weddings, too, have long found a natural home here. The hotel’s reputation for privacy means many high-profile unions remain discreet, but that discretion is part of the allure: a romantic riverside setting with the reassurance that the story belongs to the couple, not the public.

As the hotel turns 150, it does so with a celebration designed to honour the past while looking forward. The anniversary programming spans from November 2025 to March 2027 under the theme “Unfolding Legacies,” exploring chapters of legacy, people, service, culture, craft, and innovation. Highlights include a Royal Luncheon on November 22, 2025, with Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn, and a Gala Dinner by Club des Chefs des Chefs benefiting the Ratchasuda Foundation—events that reflect how the Mandarin Oriental, Bangkok has always been more than a hotel. It is an institution, and it behaves like one.

The future is equally layered. Renovations are planned through 2027, aligning with broader ambitions around innovation, technology, and sustainability, ensuring that the hotel’s next era feels as considered as its last. The brand’s growth is also visible on Bangkok’s skyline, notably through The Residences at Mandarin Oriental, Bangkok at ICONSIAM, a 52-story tower offering 146 ultra-luxury units across 50 rai—an extension of the Mandarin Oriental promise into a residential lifestyle that blends riverfront exclusivity with access to hotel services. In a city defined by change, the Mandarin Oriental does not resist evolution; it curates it.

Perhaps that is why the hotel’s 150th year feels less like a milestone and more like a continuation. The Chao Phraya keeps moving, Bangkok keeps reinventing itself, and the Mandarin Oriental, Bangkok keeps doing what it has always done best: welcoming the world, one beautifully composed moment at a time.

Thailand International Boat Show

2026 Brings Phuket’s Waterfront Lifestyle to Centre Stage

For four sunlit days at Phuket Yacht Haven Marina, the Thailand International Boat Show 2026 transformed the island’s north-east shoreline into a living showroom of marine design, high-touch hospitality, and the kind of aspirational lifestyle that Phuket does better than almost anywhere in Asia. More than a conventional yacht show, TIBS has matured into a complete luxury lifestyle event—one that blends serious buying intent with social energy, and positions Thailand’s marine economy as a high-value extension of its tourism story.

The show opened with strong official backing, underscoring the growing strategic importance of marine tourism to Thailand’s premium travel economy. Senior representatives from the Ministry of Tourism and Sports and Phuket Province joined industry leaders and organisers at the opening ceremony, signalling a shared focus: elevating Thailand’s profile as a regional gateway for boating, waterfront living, and luxury travel. Throughout the event, that theme remained consistent—this was not simply about what was moored at the docks, but about what the water can mean for the country’s future in terms of investment, experiences, and global relevance.

Set within an award-winning marina environment just minutes from Phuket International Airport, Phuket Yacht Haven proved to be an ideal stage. The setting is inherently cinematic—wide open views across the water toward Phang Nga Bay, a sense of space and breeze, and a marina layout that lets visitors move effortlessly between on-water viewing and onshore discovery. It is also, importantly, a working superyacht-capable facility, which gives the show an authenticity that can’t be replicated in a conventional exhibition hall.

On the water, the show’s line-up leaned into variety and accessibility, with everything from smaller craft and day boats to larger motor yachts and superyacht-level statements. For seasoned owners, it was a chance to step aboard, compare layouts, and speak directly with builders, brokers, and specialist service providers. For first-time buyers and lifestyle-led visitors, the appeal was just as clear: a front-row view into a world that is equal parts engineering and escape—where a teak deck can feel like a passport, and a well-designed saloon can redefine what “open plan” means.

Onshore, the experience broadened into the full ecosystem surrounding modern yachting. Alongside marine services and equipment, the event leaned into luxury lifestyle categories that naturally intersect with boating: waterfront property and resort-style real estate, high-end accessories, contemporary mobility, and the fast-growing world of “toys” designed for life on and around the sea. That wider lens is precisely what makes TIBS feel current. Today’s marine buyer is rarely shopping in a single lane; they are building a lifestyle portfolio that includes where they stay, how they travel, what they collect, and how they spend time with family and friends.

Programming added to the sense of occasion, keeping the marina lively well into the evening. Live music and entertainment created a social rhythm after the day’s show-going, while curated experiences—like VIP lounge tastings—brought a touch of indulgence to the business of browsing. Family-friendly moments also featured, including a children’s sailing regatta that served as a reminder that boating culture is ultimately about continuity: new generations learning the language of wind, water, and confidence.

Running in parallel, the Thailand Yachting Conference provided a more future-facing layer to the week, drawing industry voices into conversations around sustainability, standards, and the practical realities of growing a world-class marine sector. It was a smart pairing: the conference supplies the “why now” and “what’s next,” while the boat show delivers the tangible proof—boats to board, people to meet, and partnerships to begin.

As the show concluded on Sunday evening, the takeaway was clear. Thailand is increasingly positioning marine tourism not as a niche, but as a premium pillar—one that complements five-star hospitality, supports local marinas and service providers, and attracts the kind of high-spending traveller who values privacy, freedom, and experience-led luxury. In that context, the Thailand International Boat Show feels less like a date on the calendar and more like a statement of intent: Phuket is not just a place to visit; it is a place to arrive—by sea, by story, and by lifestyle.

Elite Havens The Rise Of Asia's Private Villa Era

Elite Havens has become one of Asia’s most established names in ultra-luxury villa rentals— an early mover that didn’t just ride the region’s shift toward private-haven travel, but helped shape it. What began in Bali in 1998 as a curated alternative to conventional hotels has evolved into a region-wide specialist with a portfolio of nearly 300 private villas and chalets across India, Indonesia, Japan, Thailand, Sri Lanka, and the Maldives—now operating under the ownership umbrella of Dusit.

There’s a reason this story feels so current. Luxury travel is increasingly defined by space, privacy, and personalization—yet the most successful villa brands are the ones that deliver those qualities with hotel-grade consistency. Elite Havens’ long arc—from a Bali-born idea to a multi-country platform—tracks the evolution of how high-end travellers want to live when they travel.

To understand Elite Havens’ staying power, you have to rewind to the late 1990s, before the world could “vet” a holiday home with a hundred reviews and a dozen reels. A small group of creative minds in Bali began curating beautiful homes for travellers looking for something more intimate than a hotel—an early marketplace connecting villa owners with guests seeking a true homeaway-from-home experience.

What separated Elite Havens from a simple listing model was its operational mindset. From early on, the business wasn’t merely brokering stays; it was building a service engine—integrated marketing, reservations, concierge, and management services designed to make luxury villas feel reliable at scale. In a fragmented segment, consistency became the differentiator—and trust became the product.

From Island Escapes to an Asia-Wide Portfolio

As affluent travellers began embracing the villa format—families, groups, and multi-generational parties especially—Elite Havens expanded beyond its early Indonesian base into a collection spanning Asia’s most coveted leisure destinations. Today, the brand’s footprint stretches across six countries, with further locations signalled for the future.

Thailand, in particular, has become a cornerstone: Phuket and Koh Samui are key pillars, and Natai—on the Phang Nga coast, within easy reach of Phuket Airport—has grown into a quietly powerful luxury address for those who want beachfront seclusion without sacrificing access.

Then there’s Japan—proof that the “private haven” concept travels well beyond tropical geography. In Niseko, the chalet experience becomes a winter translation of the same promise: privacy, warmth, and bespoke service—built for families and groups who want space to gather, and space to retreat.

A major inflection point arrived when Dusit acquired Elite Havens, integrating it as a dedicated luxury villa rental platform within a broader hospitality portfolio. For Dusit, the logic was modern: diversification into complementary, experience-led hospitality that isn’t limited to traditional hotel footprints— meeting growing demand for privacy, space, and personalised service.

For Elite Havens, Dusit’s distribution strength and luxury hotel know-how added scale potential without diluting what made the brand resonate in the first place: the villa experience rooted in human-led service rather than pure tech intermediation.

The most compelling luxury villas aren’t just places to stay—they’re destinations in their own right. Within Elite Havens’ broader portfolio sits a natural “trophy” tier: architecturally distinctive properties in exceptional settings, paired with fully staffed, hotel-grade service.

In today’s ultra-luxury market, trophy residences are the ones money can’t simply reproduce: location, pedigree, and story. It’s the difference between somewhere beautiful, and somewhere irreplaceable.

Thailand, Up Close:

Three Private-Haven Icons

For Thailand-based readers, the appeal is easy to understand: these are the rare addresses where Phuket and Phang Nga feel less like “destinations” and more like a private world—staffed, secluded, and designed around the rhythm of sea and sky. Within Elite Havens’ Thailand footprint, a handful of standout residences capture that trophy-home sensibility in different ways—beachfront scale on Natai, and elevated serenity above Naithon.

Jivana Villa Ananda, Natai Beach, Phang Nga

On the pristine sands of Natai Beach, Villa Ananda is the kind of seven-bedroom beachfront sanctuary families and groups quietly dream about—space to spread out, privacy that feels effortless, and sunsets that arrive like a nightly ritual. Set within the exclusive Jivana Beach Villas estate just north of Phuket, the villa spans approximately 9,500 square metres with more than 80 metres of private beachfront, giving it a sense of scale that’s increasingly difficult to find.

Contemporary Thai-style pavilions sit among lush tropical gardens, opening out to sweeping sea views, generous outdoor living areas, and a 25-metre swimming pool that draws everyone toward the water. A beachfront sunset sala becomes the natural meeting point as the light fades, while inside, the Great Room welcomes cooling Andaman breezes. Accommodation is thoughtfully composed for multi-generational stays, anchored by a lavish master suite, four guest bedrooms, and dedicated children’s quarters.

And then there’s the difference-maker in true luxury villa travel: the people. A dedicated villa team—Thai chef, villa manager, discreet housekeeping, and 24-hour security—ensures the experience feels polished, calm, and five-star, without ever losing the intimacy of a private home.

Malaiwana Duplex Residences,

Naithon, Phuket

Overlooking Naithon Beach—one of Phuket’s most unspoilt stretches of sand— the Malaiwana Duplex residences offer a more contemporary take on island escape: four-bedroom, design-forward, and built for an easy indoor–outdoor lifestyle. Living and dining areas flow onto sun decks and 15-metre private pools, while floor-toceiling glass frames expansive Andaman views and fiery sunset colour from almost every angle.

Despite the privacy, the setting remains wonderfully practical. Naithon Beach is close enough for an easy stroll or buggy ride, perfect for morning swims, snorkeling, and those simple, deeply Thai pleasures—freshly grilled seafood enjoyed with sand still on your feet. Phuket International Airport is also only around nine kilometres away, making arrival and departure feel refreshingly seamless, while golf, spas, beach clubs, and yacht charters sit comfortably within reach.

Each stay is elevated by discreet personalised service, including a Thai chef and dedicated villa manager, and the wider Malaiwana estate extends the same sensibility into penthouses and larger villas suited to milestone celebrations and weddings.

Malaiwana Villa M, Naithon Hills, Phuket

If the Duplex is about ease and proximity, Malaiwana Villa M is about perspective. Perched high above Naithon, it delivers a front-row seat to one of nature’s great performances: the Andaman sunset, uninterrupted and ever-changing—light shifting across the water, sea breezes cooling the terraces, fishing boats passing like brushstrokes on the horizon.

The vast infinity-edge pool appears to merge with the sky, drawing guests onto sun-warmed decks lined with loungers and shaded retreats. Inside, the mood is refined yet relaxed, with indulgent lounge spaces, a well-equipped gym, and a bar designed for lingering afternoons that quietly turn into evenings. Dining is a highlight: bespoke menus crafted by a private chef and served in an open-sided pavilion where glass doors dissolve the boundary between indoors and out.

As night falls, a purpose-built entertainment terrace becomes the setting for stargazing and long conversations, before guests retreat to five luxuriously appointed bedrooms. It’s a sanctuary for those who believe the best moments are framed by sea, sky, and silence.

Taken together, these Thai residences underline what Elite Havens has long understood: at the top end of the market, “luxury” is less about excess, and more about how completely a place can hold you—privacy without isolation, service without intrusion, and settings that feel quietly irreplaceable.

Like most high-end travel operators in Asia, Elite Havens endured a sharp downturn during the pandemic, with cross-border demand curtailed and major resort markets largely reliant on domestic or regional guests. But as borders reopened, the villa value proposition didn’t just return—it accelerated.

The reasons were simple and structural: travellers wanted control over their environment, freedom to travel as a self-contained group, and the reassurance that comes with space. Fully staffed, stand-alone villas and chalets became a natural answer—offering privacy, comfort, and a sense of calm that large resorts can’t always replicate.

Current Position and What Comes Next

Today, Elite Havens positions itself as Asia’s premier luxury holiday curator, welcoming tens of thousands of guests a year to hand-picked private havens. Every property sits behind a service promise that blends villa informality with five-star polish—private chefs, professional butlers, concierges, and local destination experts who remove friction and elevate the stay.

Looking ahead, the brand signals continued geographic growth—expanding beyond its current footprint while deepening its presence in established strongholds such as Bali, Phuket, Niseko, Koh Samui, and Goa. Under Dusit’s ownership, that expansion is likely to follow affluent leisure corridors and emerging secondary resort markets, placing Elite Havens in the path of tomorrow’s high-net-worth travel patterns.

In a world where luxury is increasingly measured by how effortlessly time can be protected, Elite Havens sits at the intersection of two enduring desires: the intimacy of a private home, and the assurance of professional hospitality.

Excess 14: The Sporty Catamaran for Owners

Who Still Love to Sail

There is a particular type of boat owner who isn’t searching for a floating villa. They want space and comfort, yes—but they also want a catamaran that talks back through the wheel, that rewards trim, that accelerates with intent, and that makes a short coastal hop feel like a proper day on the water. That is precisely the territory Excess was created to own. Launched in 2018 under Groupe Beneteau, Excess set out to capture a younger, more performance-minded crowd: sailors who like their cruising multihull to be fast, tactile, and a little mischievous.

In the beginning, Excess carried some familiar DNA. Early models leaned on existing Lagoon hull molds—an understandable shortcut when you are trying to establish a new brand quickly inside a giant production group. But it also sparked debate among purists, who wanted originality rather than a reworked interpretation of a proven platform. Excess heard the criticism and moved decisively. The turning point arrived with the Excess 11 in 2020, a ground-up design that signaled the brand’s real intentions. The evolution continued with the Excess 14 in 2024—widely viewed as the second “pure” Excess model—where the entire concept sharpens into focus: a proper cruising cat with racing instincts, without the austere compromises of a stripped-out racer.

At the heart of that shift is VPLP Design, a studio whose reputation is built on speed, ocean racing, and multihulls that behave beautifully when the conditions turn serious. With the Excess 14, VPLP’s influence isn’t a marketing flourish—it’s a blueprint. The boat is engineered to feel alive, to track well, and to deliver feedback you can actually sense, which is rare in cruising cats that are often designed first and foremost as entertainment platforms.

Start with the fundamentals: hull form and balance. The Excess 14 uses modern naval architecture with asymmetric hulls intended to reduce drag while still preserving usable interior volume. That combination matters because performance isn’t simply about sail area; it’s also about how efficiently a hull moves through the water and how cleanly it releases. Pair that with a forward-set rig, a square-top mainsail, and a generous overlapping genoa, and the Excess 14 becomes a catamaran designed to make power early—especially in the kind of moderate breezes that define so many “perfect” cruising days.

Then there is the way the boat carries its weight. A lower center of gravity, deeper fixed keels around 1.4 metres, and carbon reinforcements in a foam-sandwich structure all point toward the same goal: stiffness without unnecessary mass. Less weight means quicker response, a more energetic ride, and a cat that doesn’t need a gale to come alive. In the real world, this translates into an easy 8–10 knots in moderate wind, with the ability to push into double digits when the trim is right and the conditions cooperate. Add the Pulse Line upgrade—taller mast, additional sail area, and a composite bowsprit built to fly a Code 0—and the boat’s personality shifts from “sporty cruiser” to something that can flirt with 15 knots and beyond when you’re reaching in clean breeze.

But what makes the Excess 14 feel different isn’t only what’s on paper—it’s what happens at the helm. Where many cruisers elevate the steering position into a detached, flybridge-like perch, Excess puts you down where sailing feels immediate. Twin aft helms, positioned for direct sightlines and honest feedback, are a defining signature. The low boom and the layout encourage a more engaged style of sailing, the kind where trimming is intuitive and steering feels connected rather than filtered. Add modern helm systems and Garmin-equipped stations, and you get a combination that is both precise and confidence-inspiring, particularly for owner-operators who actually enjoy being the one in charge.

Cruising practicality, importantly, has not been sacrificed on the altar of speed. Wide decks, flush hatches, and thoughtful circulation around the boat make it feel secure underway, while an extended bimini supports the realities of tropical sun. And in a world where owners increasingly expect their yacht to behave like a connected asset, SEANAPPS technology adds remote monitoring that fits the lifestyle of modern, multi-home ownership—useful whether you keep the boat in Phuket, rotate between marinas, or charter selectively between personal trips.

Dimensionally, the Excess 14 sits in a sweet spot: nearly 14 metres in length with a beam of around 7.87 metres, offering true bluewater capability without feeling oversized for family cruising or owner-managed operation. With twin engines commonly in the 45–57hp range, fuel capacity can support an 800–1,000 nautical mile motoring range at conservative speeds, while generous water storage around 760 litres supports autonomy for longer passages. Bridgedeck clearance is engineered for real sea states, helping to reduce the punishing slamming that can make some cruising cats feel unsettled when the chop stacks up. In stronger gusts—25 to 30 knots—the Excess 14’s lower windage and optimized structure aim to keep the ride composed, allowing the boat to remain enjoyable rather than merely survivable.

For Thailand, the appeal is obvious. In the Andaman Sea, where island-hopping is the definition of luxury freedom, the Excess 14’s blend of pace and comfort suits both week-long itineraries and elegant long weekends. In the Gulf, it’s easy to imagine the boat as a social regatta weapon—smart, fast, and handsome—while still being completely at home on a relaxed cruise out of Hua Hin, Pattaya, or Samui, depending on your base and your mood.

Inevitably, comparisons come quickly—especially with Lagoon, the very brand Excess was designed to sit beside (and slightly rebel against). Lagoon catamarans are celebrated for volume, high freeboards, expansive saloons, and the effortless hospitality of a platform built for charter life. They are outstanding when the priority is maximum living space and a “party-ready” experience on the water. Excess, by contrast, is for the owner who wants the boat to feel like a yacht rather than an apartment. Lower profiles reduce windage. The helm positions deliver a more monohull-like sensation. Performance hulls and sailing geometry are tuned to reward active sailing, often translating into a noticeable advantage upwind—commonly described as a couple of knots in the right conditions—along with that harder-to-measure but deeply addictive sensation of control.

In the wider market, the Excess 14 occupies a compelling middle ground. It is more agile and performance-focused than many mainstream cruising cats, yet more accessible than pure performance brands that can demand higher budgets and more spartan compromises. It is, in many ways, Beneteau’s performance ace in the multihull world: a catamaran that makes sailing fun again, without pretending comfort doesn’t matter.

That, ultimately, is the point. The Excess 14 is a statement about modern luxury— where luxury isn’t only leather, volume, and ambient lighting, but the freedom to move quickly, to handle beautifully, and to feel the sea through the boat. For a new generation of owners, especially in markets like Thailand where yachting is becoming both more visible and more aspirational, that kind of luxury feels not only relevant, but inevitable. Perched high on a steep hillside within an ultra-private gated enclave of estate-sized lots, this extraordinary Koh Samui villa is the kind of address that instantly resets your definition of “exclusive.”

With the island’s southern coastline unfolding below, the residence commands a breathtaking 270° panorama—ocean, mountains, and distant islands stitched into a horizon that feels almost cinematic from sunrise through to the last glow of dusk.

Architecturally, the home is a confident modern statement, blending steel, glass, and stone into a composition that feels both dramatic and beautifully livable. Warm curves soften the structure, while plush, carefully curated furnishings bring a refined sense of calm. Expansive floor-to-ceiling windows flood the interiors with natural light, framing the views as if each room were designed around a moving artwork— ever-changing, always arresting.

At the heart of the property, a dazzling white marble infinity pool appears to float above the gardens, creating a show-stopping centrepiece for relaxed afternoons, sunset cocktails, or elegant entertaining under the stars. This is indoor-outdoor living at its most effortless: wide terraces, shaded seating areas, and a poolside promenade deck that becomes an extension of the home itself, inviting you to slow down and stay awhile.

With approximately 2,000 square metres of interior space set on an expansive 8,000 square metre plot, the villa offers not just scale, but genuine presence. A striking double-height foyer sets the tone upon arrival, leading into grand open-plan living where bi-folding doors glide away to connect the interior lounge directly to the outdoor deck. The effect is seamless—cool, contemporary comfort paired with tropical openness and a view that never stops delivering.

Five luxurious bedrooms and five beautifully appointed bathrooms ensure privacy for family and guests alike. The undisputed highlight is the remarkable 250 sqm King Suite, an elevated sanctuary complete with a private walled garden, a sunken lounge, and a designer bathroom oriented toward the ocean. It is a master suite that feels more like a private residence within the residence— ideal for owners who appreciate space, serenity, and a little theatre in their everyday.

A separate Queen Suite adds another layer of distinction, featuring a glass-encased bathroom on stilts that heightens the feeling of floating above the landscape. It’s a beautifully executed design detail—bold, modern, and perfectly in tune with the villa’s architectural confidence.

For those who value leisure as much as luxury, the entertainment offering is genuinely world-class. A spectacular 200 sqm private cinema and games room—with soaring five-metre ceilings—delivers an experience that rivals a boutique screening lounge, complete with snooker and table tennis, and luxurious leather recliners designed for long, indulgent evenings. A private gym with ocean views keeps wellness on the agenda, while a fully equipped Western kitchen ensures the home functions as beautifully as it presents—ideal for hosting, private chefs, or simply enjoying slow mornings with the sea as your backdrop.

Everywhere you look, the details reflect uncompromising craftsmanship: Italian marble floors, custom teak furnishings, high-spec LED lighting, and silent air-conditioning throughout, maintaining perfect comfort without ever intruding on the atmosphere. Outside, the grounds unfold across approximately 4.5 rai of landscaped greenery, with indigenous palms, lilies, bougainvillea, and natural rock formations that anchor the villa into its tropical setting.

Offered as freehold ownership through a company sale, this is a rare hilltop masterpiece—an exceptional blend of privacy, architectural elegance, and resort-calibre amenities in one of Koh Samui’s most exclusive locations.
