Welcome cattlemen & women, We would like to welcome everyone to our 4th annual bull sale. As always, we would like to thank all of our loyal customers for your continued support over the last 3 years. Our first year in Powderville is in the books and we couldn’t be more excited about the future. Part of the appeal of moving to Eastern Montana was to take our registered herd out of their comfort zone and push them to their limits. We moved them from year round irrigated ground in Western Montana to the dryland prairie of Eastern Montana. We couldn’t be happier with the results. This year our registered cows AI bred at 70% with an overall breed up of 95%. Also this winter, those same cows stayed out and winter grazed until the 18th of February. In our opinion, they have been put to the ultimate test and thrived. We are excited to have Jason and Roni Bollinger and their family of Bar F Angus on as partners in this year’s sale. Their bulls complement ours very well and we believe they will bring a different look but still share the same breeding philosophy.
Sale Format This year the bulls will be offered in a silent auction format. Bidding will begin at 10 am and close at 3 pm. If we receive a bid on a bull in the last 15 minutes before closing, we will extend the auction on that particular bull for an additional 15 minutes. All bids will be posted on a board, for everyone to see, behind our secretaries. All bulls will have a minimum bid of $2000 and bids will be in increments of $250. I hope this finds you all doing very well and I hope you are all as excited as we are about the opportunity to attack this coming year in the agriculture business. I think that the business that we are in comes with an abundance of opportunities to wonder how we are so blessed as to help feed the world for a living and at the same time offer us as many challenges as we can handle. With God’s help we must be thankful for the blessings and look at the challenges as a way to not only improve ourselves, but the lives of our neighbors each and every day. We would like to extend a very sincere invitation to the very first Bar F Angus Bull Sale. Our sale will be held in conjunction with the great bulls and very valued neighbors at Open 8 Genetics. This sale will be held at the ranch south of Powderville on Saturday, March 23rd. The sale will have a little different format than you are used to, as we plan to set it up in a silent auction setting. Bidding starts at 10:00 am and will end at 3:00 pm and will be held in Open 8’s heated facility. You will be able to bid in person, over the phone, or by leaving a bid with one of us. I know that this is a different set up than usual, but our goal is to offer a format that allows you time to make the decision that best fits your needs. Preparing for this moment has been a humbling and rewarding experience. Roni, the kids, and I have worked hard and traveled a large chunk of country in order put together a group of registered cows. Cows that we liked to look at, had the EPD’s that we required, and hoped might have what it takes to thrive in Eastern Montana’s environment. For a couple of years, we simply ran these cows with our commercial herd and took note of who stood up to the conditions we run in, brought in a high quality calf, and bred back in a short amount of time. The very best of these we invested in and their offspring is what we will put before you. With the help of embryo transfer, we are able to offer several sets of flush brothers out of our best cows and proven bulls. Ourselves, our parents, grandparents and great grandparents have all been involved in the agriculture business. As many of you know, I had the opportunity to work as a loan officer at the Garfield County Bank for 12 years. It truly was after this experience that I really came to appreciate the time (in many cases generations), the financial investment, sweat and sometimes blood that it takes to put together a quality set of cows. The fact that you would take the time to consider our bulls is not only humbling but appreciated, and not taken lightly, as these decisions not only affect your cow herd but your bottom dollar for years to come. We are excited to put before you not only our bulls but the proven high quality bulls from Open 8 Genetics. We look forward to seeing you on the 23rd, possibly to buy a bull, but most importantly to catch up with valued neighbors and hopefully meet new ones.
