Randi, a retired teacher of 32 years, always wanted to help children and animals. She followed her first passion of being an elementary teacher. Now she is following her second passion, helping animals. While out on medical leave, she began to foster dogs for the Magnolia Chapter of the Humane Society. Randi decided she wanted to do more to help in addition to the foster program so Magnolia Thrift was born. Opened in November, Magnolia Thrift is a resale store that sells gently used and new items for real “thrift” prices. Customers can walk in to find anything from clothes, books, and toys to décor, glassware and even furniture. Ran entirely by herself with the
help of a few volunteers, Randi says the store is strictly nonprofit. All profits will go to the aid of the Magnolia Chapter of the HSL. Donations from the store will be able to help purchase supplies needed for the animals in their care. After only two months of being open, business at Magnolia Thrift has been going well, Randi says. She loves getting to know her customers and is very grateful for all the donations, support, and feedback she has received from her new customers and friends. “The purpose is two-fold,” said Randi about the store. “It benefits people and animals.” That is what makes the store; you can shop to find the things you need at the right price while helping animals at the same time. Magnolia Thrift has been overflowing with donations ever since its doors opened. Randi will take almost everything, except older box televisions and computer equipment including printers. Donations are accepted during store hours and plans for a drop box will be finished soon. Check out the new store located on Hwy 59 in Abita Springs. Our mission is to raise funds to provide necessities for children in need of cleft palate reconstructive surgeries. We donate 100% of proceeds to the David Hoffman Memorial Fund, a foundation set up by the Cleft Team to provide funds for expenses for patients and families. These expenses may include cleft palate reconstructive procedures, dental implants, money for gas, hotels, picnics (patients are given the opportunity to meet other children with cleft palates), teen lunches (lunches specifically for teen cleft palate patients), and other costs suggested by the Cleft Team.
