Honywood School supports the health and wellbeing of its learners and staff through an environment that engages learning and promotes healthy lifestyle choices. The school canteen plays an important role in achieving this. Mrs Frid, our Catering Manager, and her team aim to offer a service to the school community by: • Providing a range of homemade, nutritious, hygienically prepared food for the school community at a reasonable price. • The canteen supports and reinforces the school curriculum regarding health and nutrition. • The canteen provides a variety of foods including vegetarian and vegan options and gives careful consideration to allergies. It is very important for all young people to eat a healthy, balanced diet and Honywood School takes this responsibility very seriously.

Dietary Information At Honywood, we cater for a variety of dietary preferences including vegetarian and vegan and our daily menus feature foods compliant with these diets. Please ensure you notify the school of any allergies or intolerances your child may have so that these can be loaded on to our cashless catering system and our learner database, SIMS.

Environmental Sustainability The Honywood catering team are committed to the importance of recycling and preventing waste to reduce our environmental footprint. By educating learners about the importance of recycling, we are inspiring them to think about how their personal actions affect the planet and their future environment. Learning about recycling at Honywood means that learners are more likely to adopt it as a habit, helping to make them conscientious adults. This encourages learners to implement their recycling tactics in their everyday life, helping to tackle the waste they produce at home. All catering packaging used at Honywood is fully biodegradable and we have recycling bins in many areas across the school.

Cashless Catering Honywood School operate a cashless catering system. This reduces queues at lunch time, provides anonymous free school meals to learners and allows monies to be pre-paid for dinner money. The system encourages learners to buy food in school, reducing the risk of buying unhealthy items elsewhere. Other features include menu scheduling, meal deals, allergy alerts, alongside allowing parents to view their child’s menu choice on the ParentPay website. All free school meal entitlements will be entered on to the system. The cashless catering system will, on a daily basis, automatically allocate the appropriate accounts with the free school meal amounts. Learners with free meal entitlements remain anonymous at all times as all account types are accessed in exactly the same manner regardless of whether paid for or not. Note that monies not spent from the daily free school meal allocation will not be carried over to the next day. Payments are made via ParentPay using a very secure website – www.ParentPay.com. Parents will have a secure online account, activated using a unique activation username and password. Once activated, payments can be made online immediately. ParentPay holds an electronic record of all payments to be monitored and viewed at any time. Please check the balance on ParentPay regularly to ensure the account is in credit. The learner has the responsibity of ensuring they have the card with them every day should they wish to purchase items from our food outlets.

Cashless Catering - Frequently Asked Questions Daily Spend Limit The default daily spend limit is set at £5.00. This can be increased or reduced by the parent/carer by contacting our Catering Manager kfrid@honywoodschool.com. Please give the full name of your child and their Learning Group and state the amount you wish the Daily Spend to be set at.

Exceeding the Daily Spend Limit If you take items to the till which then exceed your daily spend limit you will need to put something back. We only take back items that are pre-packed (sandwiches, drink cartons etc) not freshly served food, e.g. hot meal deal, fruit.

Insufficient Funds A one-day lend of £2.30 will be permitted if it is found that you have insufficient funds when presenting your card. You will be instructed to advise your parent/carer to upload funds via ParentPay that will repay any loan and put the account into credit for the next day. Accounts are monitored and contact will be made with the family should the account continue to have insufficient funds. We reserve the right to refuse service should the account remain in debit.

Misplaced Cards or Card ‘Left at Home’ You will not be served at the till without a card. A replacement card can be issued at the till so you are able to purchase food. The replacement card fee of £1.00 will be charged to your account. Your old card will be treated as “lost” and disabled from your ParentPay account. You are advised to look after your cashless card just as you would a bus pass/discount card and eventually debit/credit cards.

Lost Cards If you find a lunch card, please hand it in to the Kitchen. We will aim to get it back to its owner.

Use of your Cashless Card It is important that learners understand that their Cashless Card should only be used for purchasing items for their own personal consumption. We advise caution when learners permit the purchase of items for others as this increases the charge for their parent/carer.

I can’t remember my Log-In details A common occurrence for any online activity. The ParentPay website itself has some useful guidance. If this does not help, email the school who will be able to forward you details of your user name and password. However, if you have changed your password you will need to ask for your password to be reset and a link will be sent to your registered email address. For any ParentPay queries please contact the School Office on schooloffice@honywoodschool.com.

What happens to account balances if my child leaves Honywood? The account will be checked to ascertain if the account is in credit or debit. If the account is in credit the balance will be refunded to the payers debit/credit card. If the account has a debit balance a letter will be sent to the parent/carer inviting them to pay the outstanding balance.

Can I see what my child is purchasing? Yes, log into your ParentPay account and “View taken meals and menus”. The items your child has purchased with be shown by a green tick.

My child has a food allergy, how will this be monitored? All allergy records registered with Honywood will be automatically entered on to the cashless database. When learners attempt to purchase an item that has ingredients that they are allergic to, the system will alert the operator and prevent them from selling the chosen item. Please make sure we are kept up to date on allergy and other conditions.
