Roadmap As we look ahead to next week we look ahead to some relaxing of the national restrictions. I hope that this will provide you with further opportunities to reconnect with the important things in life. For us in school there is little change. The DfE has issued updated guidance for us to follow and by and large much of it remains the same. We must still: implement our split breaks and lunches; maintain our cohort based bubble system; have a focus on ventilation; use our one way system; maintain existing hygiene control measures; home testing. In fact everything has remained other than an update to the use of face coverings/masks. The guidance is slightly contradictory on this. But by and large it is allowing for some relaxing of this rule. At Honywood we are slightly more sceptical about removing restrictions as a cautious approach has served us well over the past year. Just yesterday I heard of another local school that has had to send home many learners to isolate because they have had a confirmed positive case.
learners should continue to always bring a clean mask with them to school every day unless they have received an exemption. We still have a healthy supply of masks to provide learners should they need another one. It is worth remembering that we are in the midst of assessments for our C11 examination classes and we are keen to get these completed before we relax Covid measures further and it is still the case that those under 40 in our workforce have not yet been offered a vaccination. Finally, we have issued the next round of lateral flow home testing kits. These will take you up to after half term. It is important that we continue to engage with this system bi-weekly as part of our community control measures. I thank you in advance for your support and cooperation. A reminder that the timetable will be rolling over to the September 2021 classes and teachers after half I have met with other heads in our trust to discuss term. Cohort leaders will be writing to learners and our response to the guidance and agree on a unified families about these changes and will be using the approach. We have agreed that masks do not need opportunity to reignite the final half term. to be worn in classrooms from Monday for learners. Headlines contd... This change will mean that false nails are no longer allowed to be worn in school. The rationale for the changes stem around several reasons, primarily health and safety, however we are also encountering an increasing number of learners that are unable to do their top buttons and use their iPads due to the false nails they are wearing. Learners are still welcome to have their own nails painted after half term but any false nails must be removed by then. Any learner that doesn't adhere to this after half will unfortunately have to be consequence. Thanks Mr Caygill Reporting Attendance Please inform the school early in the day by 8.30am if your child is going to be absent from school. You need to call the attendance line on 01376 561 231 option 1 or email attendance@honywoodschool.com to report a child’s absence. This number has a 24 hour voicemail service. If you need to speak to someone because you need extra help or are worried, please contact your child’s Cohort Leader
and we will make sure someone contacts you. We may ask for a letter to confirm medical appointments to explain absences or other suitable medical evidence. If you receive a Groupcall message regarding your child's absence please contact the school as soon as possible. If your child has not arrived at school or left the premises and you are not aware, we need you to help with finding him/her and ensuring s/he is safe. It is a safeguarding concern if no-one knows where your child is. You need to make sure your child is in school by 8.30am in order for him/her to register and prepare for the day. A rushed arrival can make a child feel unsettled and lead to a difficult day in school. They may also receive a late mark and possible consequence. We need parents to keep us up to date with contact details. Please let us know if your mobile number changes and make sure that, wherever possible, we have another two named contacts on the system we can call if we cannot get hold of you. This is important if there is any kind of an emergency. Thank you for your support

Next week is a Week “A” Congratulations to Laila Arkell—C8 the recipient of the Jack Petchey Achievement award for May. At the end of Last year Laila managed to raise over £300 for the 4cancer group charity by designing, making and selling chocolate bouquets. A family member went through treatment for leukaemia recently and she was lucky enough to be supported by the amazing 4cancer charity group. The charity Sail for Cancer is a charity that provides respite opportunities for families affected by Cancer. The family decided that they would love to do something to give back and help other families that have been through the same awful experience and Laila came up with the idea of making and selling chocolate bouquets to raise money. Laila has worked her socks off over the last few months to achieve what she has and we are all incredibly proud of her efforts. She not only has raised money for the 4cancer charity she has also made and donated bouquets to support local causes such as the Kelvedon St Mary’s primary school, the Kelvedon St Mary’s Church, Harvey’s wish (Coggeshall) and Hope for Lilly. Laila has enjoyed helping these causes so much that she has set up her own Facebook page named Laila’s chocolate factory where she can advertise and sell her bouquets and provide information on all the charities she has helped so far.
