Welcome Cattlemen, Welcome back to TD Angus at Rishel Ranch. Only two words need to describe this last year in the industry and it’s “record year”. With the smallest cow herd in generations, the cattle market hit record levels with prices never seen before. We watched thousands of customer cattle roll into the mid $3.00 range and higher and in the feedyard sector in our family operation we broke records on gain, grid and price per pound with many pens bringing over $2.00 for fat cattle. On top of it, Mother Nature held her end of the bargain and many parts of the West and Midwest saw an abundance of rain and moisture to heal the grasslands that these cattle thrive on. It was a year to remember for many reasons. Andy Olson told me once, I have seen a record high market and a wet year at the same time only twice in my life. When it happens, embrace it. Prices continue to hold and bring back record profits for the cow calf sector and feed inputs continue to decline and one thing is for sure, it has never been a better time to be in the cattle business and it has never been a better time to own an Angus cow. This is our first exclusive bred cow sale, where every head will be bred to calve in the Spring of 2025. They have passed the test that they can thrive in the expansive pastures of the Sandhills and raise a heavy weighing calf that has a shot at hitting prime and breed back doing it, with no creep or supplement to assist besides prairie grass and windmill water. Many are bred to our #MostoftheBest sires and will continue to push the needle on profitability with breed leading growth, efficiency, structure and soundness and carcass merit. The only reason they are for sale is because our environment, labor and interest payments only allow us to run so many. Dayna and I had never owned a registered Angus cow before 2017. She was raised in a feedyard focused family and I had never been in the seedstock industry. Green would be an understatement. Though the mentorship of Bill and Barb Rishel was imperative to our success, these cows had to do the hard part and make us a living and pay the debt. Without this cow herd and their unique ability to work for us, instead of us working for them, nobody can say they didn’t do their job. Our first sale in 2017 we sold 112 bulls, last year in 2024 we sold and marketed over 500 Angus bulls in 30 plus states while increasing the per head average, this cow herd deserves all the credit. If they can do this for us, then I have no doubt they can do it for you. Not only the record setting price of $525,000 but also a herd bull in his own right with taking the breed by storm in his first year of progeny sales with high sellers in multiple programs at EZ Angus, Rhoades and TD. Progeny ratios in his first year are elite with BW in 80 herds @100, WW in 66 herds @102, YW in 44 herds @103 and carcass scans in 45 herds @104 for both marbling and ribeye. We have calved his first daughters and they are extremely gentle with just another mothering ability and great udders and more importantly are productive with 10 herds reporting daughters ratio 102 for weaning weight. Sold in our 2021 sale for $30,000 to good friends and cattleman at McWherter Farms in Jackson, Tennessee and has been used heavily in both our program and theirs. He was selected as the No Doubt son to move on with because he kept the stoutness, good feet and carcass quality that No Doubt did but he is more calving ease, higher heifer pregnancy and a low PAP bull for a better immune system and can work at elevation than his sire. His progeny are fault free and we have had multiple visitors see his heifers in the replacement pen and they are some of the best fronted and smoothest in the pen, they look to be real momma cows. Progeny ratio 100 for BW in 18 herds, 101 for WW in 12 herds, 102 for YW in 6 herds, 101 for IMF in 7 herds and 102 for RE in 7 herds. It shouldn’t surprise anybody coming from his cow family and his mother who produced until her 14th birthday with an elite progeny record of 11BW@101, 11WW@103, 11YW@103, 11IMF@101, 11RE@107 with a calving interval of 11@366 days while being flushed and put 6 natural daughters in the replacement pen. We have calved our first daughters and they are some of our favorites with docility, a perfect udder and a sandhill cow look.

Walking bull we got to use from our good friends Grimmius Cattle Company who brought $157,000 at the Gardiner Angus sale. Great balance in production with double-digit CED, solid growth, and a top 25% RADG rank. Strong suite of carcass EPD ranking in the top 1% for Marbling, top 10% for Ribeye, and when combined with his growth, he easily ranks in the top 1% for $Beef and top 1% for $Combined as well. True ultrasound outlier at Gardiner where he charted a 9.75 Adj. %IMF with a 13.3 sq. inch Adj. Ribeye at a scan weight of 1166 lbs. Holy Fire is a strong 6-frame bull with extra muscle shape down his top and through his hip and stifle. He tracks out wide and square with plenty of reach, and has excellent rib shape up top.

Trey found this bull on his travels through Montana after seeing his sons at Basin Angus who impressed him with their incredible length of body, perfect foot, stoutness, heavy muscled and sound all while being the top 1% of the breed for weaning weight, yearling weight and marbling. Deposit has already sired sons selling to semen companies and females that have topped many elite sales throughout the country including the $600k Basin Jameson 1076. Deposit has sired calves in 58 herds that ratio 102 for weaning weight, 37 herds that ratio 102 for yearling weight and 25 herds that ratio 108 for IMF. We have calved his first daughters and they are really long bodied and perfect uddered.

Power bull we found at the Green Garden Angus sale in 2022 who we identified for his stoutness and herd bull look and he has cleaned up our replacement heifers the last two years.
