Dear Neighbors, Cattlemen, and Friends -

As we write this, the wind is howling again, determined to test even the most determined ranchers. Thankfully, it’s come with a mild winter so far, and we’re grateful for that. After the mild reprieve from drought we saw last summer, we’re hopeful Mother Nature keeps trending in the right direction and delivers the kind of snow and spring moisture that sets grass up to grow and cattle up to thrive. We know many friends across the region haven’t been as fortunate, and we’re keeping them in our thoughts while we all look ahead to greener days.

This past year marked a big transition for our cow herd as we settled into the new ranch and began utilizing our mountain lease in the Bighorns above Buffalo. Our program has long been rooted in cattle that work at elevation, and watching this set of cows and calves spend the summer in brush, rock, timber, and mountain meadows confirmed why we select the way we do. They traveled, grazed, and maintained condition exactly how we expect range cattle to perform. Trailing the herd off the mountain, down the face, and back home was a highlight of the season, and it was fun hearing compliments from riders, hunters, and campers who stopped to admire the calves’ phenotype and the docility of the cows all summer long. Functional, quiet, altitude-proven cattle continue to be the backbone of our program.

We’re excited about the depth of this year’s sale offering. Our first- and second-calf heifers stacked the deck with bull calves, and it shows in the strength of the calvingease portion of the sale. We’ve also reached deep into our replacement pen to offer an outstanding set of breds and replacement heifers. Letting them go isn’t easy, but we’re proud to share females that represent the direction and confidence we have in our cow herd. We believe this is one of the most uniform offerings we’ve assembled to date.

You’ll see a strong presence of Long Tidal Wave 2073 progeny early in the catalog this year. He continues to stamp calves with muscle, structure, and eye appeal, and we’re extremely pleased with the consistency he brings. Semen is available on Tidal Wave for those interested. We also have semen available on our young sires Can Am Defender and GA Spark 44, both proving to be dependable heifer bulls with exciting early calf crops. Contact Tyler for details.

All persons attending this sale do so at their own risk.

HEALTH

Cattle will be accompanied by health certificates as required. All cattle have been vaccinated and de-wormed. All bulls have been tested and are BVD-free.

GUARANTEE

Bulls selling for $5,000 or more are fully guaranteed for the first breeding season. Breeding season is defined as the first 90-day period following the first turnout of the bulls. If a replacement bull is available, he will be provided, or if the buyer prefers, a credit will be given in the following year’s sale, less $2,500 (salvage value of the injured bull). This guarantee does not include death loss. Please notify us as soon as possible should an injury occur and before the bull being sold for salvage; All claims must be made by Sept 1, 2026.

DELIVERY

Bulls will delivered within 200 miles for free. If you’re over 200 miles, we will make every effort to get your cattle delivered to you at a reasonable cost and in a timely manner. Bulls picked up the day of the sale will receive a $50 early load-out discount. Bull delivery begins after the sale at buyer’s convenience. If bulls cannot be received before May 1, bulls will be boarded at $4/day.

ELK Angus retains 1/3 revenue sharing semen interest on every bull.

BULL DATA

Additional data, including scrotal sizes and scan data, will be posted in a supplement sheet online at ELKangus.com a few days before the sale. This supplement sheet will also be available on the day of sale, along with updated EPDs and any missing data. All Angus bulls offered have been DNA tested using Angus GS.

The sale will be broadcast on DVAuction.com. Please register at least 24 hours in advance to obtain a bidder number. Videos will be posted two weeks prior to sale.

• Primrose 5083 is best known as the dam of the $42,000 third-high-selling bull of the 2021 Ellingson Angus sale, Ellingson Deep River, who has become one of the most popular sires on the Alta Genetics roster. Deep River progeny have highlighted and topped some of the most-talked about offerings over the past two sale seasons across the U.S.

• Other progeny of hers have highlighted past Ellingson sales, including Three Rivers 2076, which was a $28,500 feature in last year’s sale going to Roseland Ranch, along with multiple other sons commanding $15-20k and going to some of the region’s top commercial programs.

THE STORY BEHIND THE BRAND

Elk are a common sight every fall at the ranch in Buffalo, WY. And, as exciting as seeing a few hundred head out with the beef cows in the hay meadows can be, that’s not why we call ourselves ELK Angus. Our brand, [reverse E] L K, comes from an old family story where Tyler’s down-the-line uncle worked the Y-Y ranch in the Southwest. Another ranch hand was rustling cattle by changing the Y-Y to [reverse E] L K, and when the government discovered this, those cattle were offered for sale where Tyler’s distant uncle purchased his first herd. We revived the brand a few generations later.
