City Council Accepts Bids, Discusses Demo List The Trenton City Council met in open session on Monday, September 25, 2023 at 7:00 p.m. at City Hall. In attendance were Mayor Jackie Soptic; Council Members William Fisher, Glenn Briggs, Calvin Brown, Marvin Humphreys, Timothy Meinecke, David Mlika, Duane Urich and John Dolan; City Attorney Tara Walker; City Administrator/Utilities Director Ron Urton; Police Chief Rex Ross; and City Clerk Cindy Simpson. The minutes from the September 11, 2023 meeting were approved by the council, as was the payment of all duly obligated bills. The council then moved on to reports from around the city. Briggs reported on the electronic waste collection that was held. He also reported on the discussion held by the police personnel board about hiring Anthony May after he graduates in December. The council moved to accept the hiring of May. Urich reported on the utility committee meeting and the economic development committee meeting. Mlika reported on the building and nuisance board meeting and the progress of the cleaning up of three properties. Urton discussed the [See Council, Page 2]

NCMC Board Hears Enrollment Reports, Approves Retirement The North Central Missouri College Board of Trustees met in regular session on September 26, 2023. During the meeting, the Trustees heard communication reports, approved Head Start items, purchases, surplus property, and personnel items. In communication items, Melinda Matter, English Instructor introduced herself to the board, and faculty members Dr. Lindsay Oram, Maryellen Harmon and Dr. Susan Stull provided a presentation on the Math/Science/Social Science department. Head Start Director Janet Gott discussed Head Start enrollment, and
change of scope, and provided an update on the Brookfield Center merge. Vice President of Academic Affairs discussed a Missouri State Board of Nursing site visit, a signing ceremony with Northwest Missouri State University, and highlights from the census praising several academic programs significantly up in enrollment. Chief Information Officer Jennifer Triplett provided updates on multifactor authentication implementation for employees, website directory improvements, PowerCampus upgrades, and MOREnet circuit upgrades and analysis.
During the President’s report, Dr. Lenny Klaver discussed the significant increase in enrollment for NCMC and the clean audit NCMC recently received. He also provided an update on the capital campaign and a recent RCCA conference he attended. He discussed disaster planning and projects around campus. In business items, Trustees approved the Head Start year five noncompeting continuation grant application and the annual program report. They also approved the purchase of 20 heifers for the Barton [See NCMC, Page 2]
NWMSU, NCMC Strengthen Partnership Representatives of Northwest Missouri State University and North Central Missouri College convened Monday to celebrate their continuing partnership and another batch of agreements that create pathways to further student educational attainment and success. During the gathering at North Central’s Savannah Campus, Northwest President Dr. Lance Tatum and North Central President Dr. Lenny Klaver signed 17 articulation agreements that

help qualified students complete a bachelor’s degree at Northwest after earning an associate degree at North Central. The institutions signed 14 similar agreements last spring during a celebration on Northwest’s campus. As the leaders of both schools touted their institutions’ strategic focuses on academic excellence and student success, they also noted their shared interest in workforce development and preparing students with [See Partner, Page 2]

GCBCSG Annual Fundraiser The Grundy County Breast Cancer Support Group will hold their annual fundraiser on Friday, October 6 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Hy-Vee parking lot. The menu includes pulled pork sandwiches, chips, bbq beans, homemade ice cream made by Allen and Lynda Berry, cookie, cupcakes and drinks. Donations are appreciated. All proceeds will stay in Grundy County to support those who are battling breast cancer.
Guns ‘N Hoses Softball Game The Trenton Fire Department and Trenton Police Department will play a softball game on Saturday, October 7 at 11 a.m. on Johnson Field at the Ebbe Sports Complex in Trenton. This game will be a fundraiser for the Green Hills Recreation Association. While admission is free, donations will be accepted. A concession stand will be provided with food, drinks and snacks.
