Trenton Chamber Gets “Back to Basics” with a Black & White Event It was a spectacular evening as the Trenton Area Chamber of Commerce got “Back to Basics” with a Black & White Event on Friday, August 11 to honor the 2023 Pillars of the Community, Laura Sue Daniels and Diane Lowrey, Businesses of the Year, Barnes Greenhouses and State Farm Insurance and Organization of the Year, Bright Futures. Entertainment for the evening was provided by a lip sync competition, during which Officer Jeb Walker & Deputy Seth Cox, Trenton R-9 Superintendent Daniel Gott, Hy-Vee Manager Chad Boyd & Noah Boyd, NCMC Men’s Basketball Coach Jeremy Esry and THS Choral Instructor Tyler Busick vied for the prize. In the end, it was decided they were all winners. See photos of the lip sync competition on page 6 of today’s Republican-Times.
BRIEFS NCMC Move-In Day
On Friday, August 18 a section of Mable Street in Trenton will be closed to maintain student safety while they move into NCMC Residence Halls. Mable will be closed from 13th Street to Crowder Road from 8 a.m. until midnight. Day and evening activities are planned for the students on the lawn and street between the residence halls and the Ketcham Community Center.
NCMC In-Service
North Central Missouri College will be conducting inservice for all faculty and staff on Thursday, August 17 and Friday, August 18. Offices on the NCMC campus will have limited staff and services Thursday. Faculty will have limited availability on both days. Classes for the fall semester begin on August 21.
Rissler PTO BBQ
Rissler PTO will be hosting a Back to School BBQ fundraiser on Friday, August 18 from 5:30-7 p.m. at BTC Bank in Trenton. The grab-and-go meal will be $8 and will include a pulled pork sandwich, chips and a chocolate chip cookie. All proceeds will benefit Rissler teachers and students by helping to provide fun activities for all, plus helping to fund classroom grants and school infrastructure needs for the upcoming school year.

Cultural Corner invites the public to a program by artist and historian Kyle Carroll on Sunday, August 20 at 2:00 p.m. Carroll will discuss the Native American and frontier history that is reflected in his artwork. A reception for Carroll and Loren Woodard, whose woodcarvings are currently on display at the gallery, will be held following the program. This event is sponsored by Chillicothe Family Pharmacy and is free. Cultural Corner is located at 424 Locust in Chillicothe.
Pleasant View R-VI Sets Tax Levy, Approves Bids A tax rate hearing for the Pleasant View R-VI School District was held on Tuesday, August 8 at 6 p.m. in the cafeteria. During this time, the board unanimously voted to increase the tax rate from 4.9830 to 4.9903. The Pleasant View R-VI Board of Education met in regular session on Tuesday, August 8 at 6:05 p.m. in the school cafeteria. The agenda, minutes, financial statement and bills were all approved unanimously. Avery McCauslin gave an update on Community
