Grand River Valley Choir and Orchestra Performs
BRIEFS Rhonda Vincent in Concert
The Dream Factory of Northwest Missouri will present country music and Grand Ole Opry star Rhonda Vincent in concert on Thursday, September 7. The event will take place at 7 p.m. at the Trenton Performing Arts Center. Tickets are $25 in advance or $30 at the door and can be purchased at Trenton Hy-Vee or Ron Dougan’s office at 903 Main St. in Trenton. Tickets may also be ordered by calling Mr. Dougan at 660359-0100. There will be no reserved seating and no food available.

Area School Boards Discuss Personel, Bids During recent school board meetings, Pleasant View R-6, Grundy County R-5, Spickard R-2, Laredo R-7, Tri-County R-7, Princeton R-5 and Gallatin R-5 discussed bids, hirings, resignations, budgets, and more. Pleasant View R-6 A regular session was held on Tuesday, June 13, at 6 p.m, in the school’s cafeteria. Consent items agenda, minutes, financial statement and bills were motioned and approved with a vote 7-0. Under old business, flooring is to be done in the 3/4/5 wing of the school, guttering has been installed in the preschool, the playground received a recoating covering with sealant necessary for maintenance and the floors are being waxed for the upcoming school year. A bid from The Epoxy Floor Guy of Kearney to lay new flooring in the school’s cafeteria was approved at a cost of $9,723 and the project is to be done by the beginning of the 2023-24 school year. Under new business, the 202324 master schedule was approved and fund transfers to match the revenues and expenditures for the school year and budget were approved. The annual tax rate hearing will be held on August 8th at 6 p.m with regular meeting to follow. The 2023-24 student and parent handbook, as well as the faculty and after school program handbook,
were approved. The MSBA policy update was approved, and the Teacher Baseline Salary Grant that is funded by the state of Missouri was motioned 7-0. During a closed session, a motion was made to give custodians Whitney Barlow and Stacy McLain each a $200 stipend for their work on removing carpet to prepare for new flooring to be installed. Motion was carried 6-0. Grundy County R-5 A regular session board meeting of the Grundy County R-5 School was held on Wednesday, June 14 at 6 p.m. Under old business, a report on maintenance items at the elementary school was given and the board reviewed a bid for carpeting and directed the administration to continue taking bids for carpeting, which will be reviewed at the next meeting. A report on ESSER III funding was given with no action taken. Under new business, the elementary school will be receiving a new refrigerator for the school kitchen and the high school will be replacing a stove in the school kitchen. Policy updates were read and the Baseline Salary Grant for 2023-24 school year was approved. District investments were reviewed with no action taken. The cooperative arrangement/participation with Newtown-Harris for a cross
country team was approved, and a report was presented by the elementary principal. During a closed session the board approved the hiring of Andrew Gooch as a parttime music teacher. Extra duty contracts were approved for Cheyenne Martin and Jerry Kiger for junior and senior class sponsors. Kristi Burkeybile was approved as prom sponsor. The end of the year special board meeting will be on June 28, at 5 p.m in the high school business room. The July board meeting is scheduled for July 12th at 6 p.m in the elementary building at Humphreys. Spickard R-2 Spickard held a board meeting on June 8th at 6 p.m to approve bids, contracts, and handbooks. The Board approved the payment of June bills of $108, 163.01. Budget year and amendments were approved resulting in total revenues of $1,289,030 and total expenditures of $1,203,079. Bids were discussed. Propane, diesel, and gas bids were tabled for the next meeting. Milk bids were awarded to Prairie Farms, and bids will be received for installments to a restroom on the 3rd floor. The Board decided to reimburse the Federal Food Service Breakfast and Lunch for adult meals for 2nd semester; Breakfast $454.40 and Lunch $1,662.52. The iReady for
Reading and Math assessment/interventions and CSIP draft submitted to DESE was approved. The student, faculty and staff handbooks discussed for the 2023-24 school year were approved. May top Pirate was awarded to Alice Tharp. The 2023-24 plans of AMI and Safe Return to School and Continuity of Services were approved. Extra duty contracts were awarded to Shelly Porter for after school club coordinator, Deva Lanning for mentoring, and Amy Glenn for curriculum coordinator. The next meeting will be July 13th at 6 p.m. Laredo R-7 The Laredo school board met on June 12th at 6 p.m to discuss bids and budgets. Under old business, the propane, to MFA of $1.55 and diesel was awarded to Landes Oil of $0.06 off pump price. GFL won the trash bid at $94.16/moo, and Prairie Farms won the milk bid. Building improvements of the auger main line in the bathroom, toilet installments, and eye on urinal was approved to Danny Stephens. GRM will install security and phone systems. Transportation was discussed. Under new business, the tentative transportation report was given. School breakfast and lunch cost for students will increase by [See Boards, Page 2]
A fireworks display is planned in Trenton on Monday, July 3 to celebrate the Independence Day holiday. A committee of local residents, chaired by Cole Soptic, is currently seeking donations to help pay for the event. It is hoped that around $5,000 can be raised to pay for the show, with fireworks to be shot off from an area near the Rock Barn at dusk on July 3. Individuals, businesses and organizations wanting to make a contribution can do so my leaving their donation at the Trenton Area Chamber of Commerce office, Farmers State Bank, Trenton Abstract and Title or the law office of Tara Walker. Donations can also be mailed to the chamber at PO Box 233, Trenton, MO 64683. Checks should have “fireworks” written in the notation line.
