Missouri Connections Academy Recognizes Trenton Students Cooper Czenca and Kiona Lawrence of Trenton, were both recently named among Missouri Connections Academy’s (MOCA) Students of the Month for December in recognition of their outstanding achievements in the virtual classroom. “Our students of the month demonstrate leadership and an extraordinary commitment to learning while serving as strong role models for their peers,” said Lynsie Hunt, School Leader at Missouri Connections Academy. “The members of our faculty and staff are proud to give these virtual classroom leaders the recognition they deserve.” Both Cooper, a seventh grader, and Kiona, a freshman at the statewide, tuition-free, online public school were nominated by their teachers. As a Student of the Month, Cooper and Kiona with receive a certif-
icate of achievement and be profiled in the Missouri Connections Academy student newsletter and the school’s social media platforms. Each month during the school year, MOCA will recognize students in grades K through 12 who are excelling in the virtual classroom. Cooper enrolled in Missouri Connections Academy last year to be in a safe, more nurturing learning environment. According to his mother Tori, Cooper was “severely bullied” in his previous school. Attending Missouri Connections Academy has enabled him to feel safe. “It is an amazing community of loving teachers and a staff that really cares about the kids,” Tori said. “They have a flexible program that fits with different learning styles, and I would definitely recommend Mis[See Trenton, Page 2]

GRM Networks has awarded a total of $3,750 as part of the company’s Community Improvement Grant program. One of the organizations receiving funding in the last semiannual distribution for 2022 was the Stacy Multipurpose Center in Princeton. Lucretia Coon, GRM Networks Customer Service Representative, pictured above right, presented a $1,500 GRM Networks Community Improvement Grant to Stacy Center Manager Becca King, left, and Stacy Center Board of Directors President and GRM Networks Combination Technician Derek Power, center. BRIEFS Trenton R-9 Board Filings
The following candidates have filed for positions on the Trenton R-9 School Board. Those filing include incumbents Jason Hostetler, Brandon Gibler and Andy Burress. Also filing were Joshua Shuler, Ronda Lickteig and Robin Chambers. There are three positions available with three-year terms. The elections will take place on April 4, 2023.

City of Trenton Filings
There will be two contested city races in the April 4, 2023 election this year. There is a three-way race for Mayor and for 3rd Ward councilman. Candidates filing for the position of Mayor are Nick McHargue, Jackie Soptic and Tyler Willey. Candidates filing for the 3rd Ward councilman are Michael L. Opitz, Timothy Meinecke and Harry Kately. The unopposed filers include William Lewis Fisher for 1st Ward councilman, Calvin Brown for 2nd Ward councilman and incumbent John Dolan for 4th Ward councilman.
Nursing Home Board Filings
There were no filings for the two available three-year positions on the Grundy County Nursing Home Board.
Friends of Edinburg Meeting
Friends of Edinburg School will meet at 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday, January 10 at Dino’s Restaurant.
