Happy Birthday Homewood Public Library!
The Homewood Public Library turns 85 on March 24, 2026

The library has grown from one room at City Hall to our own building on the corner of Oxmoor Road until its current home at 1721 Oxmoor Road. Find historical information about the Library and the City of Homewood at hpl pub/archives

Dennis worked at HPL from 1983-1986 and came back as the head of the Adult Department from 2000 to 2011 He was awarded the Eminent Librarian Award from the Alabama Library Association in April 2011 for his commitment to HPL. After his retirement in 2011, he moved to North Carolina to be closer with his family. Dennis loved libraries and was always recommending a good mystery Dennis passed on November 3, 2025, and he will be greatly missed by his friends and family.

National Library Week is an annual celebration highlighting the valuable role libraries, librarians, and library workers play in strengthening our communities and transforming lives. Patrons may take $5 off late fees by visiting any Jefferson County Library during National Library Week
